One With You (Crossfire #5) by Sylvia Day

Format: Audio/Audible

Gideon Cross. Falling in love with him was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. It happened instantly. Completely. Irrevocably.

Marrying him was a dream come true. Staying married to him is the fight of my life. Love transforms. Ours is both a refuge from the storm and the most violent of tempests. Two damaged souls entwined as one.

We have bared our deepest, ugliest secrets to one another. Gideon is the mirror that reflects all my flaws … and all the beauty I couldn’t see. He has given me everything. Now, I must prove I can be the rock, the shelter for him that he is for me. Together, we could stand against those who work so viciously to come between us.

But our greatest battle may lie within the very vows that give us strength. Committing to love was only the beginning. Fighting for it will either set us free … or break us apart.

Review –

I must admit that I just love the character of Gideon Cross, he’s even on my list of Book Boyfriends” (I know, nerdy, right?) but this book did not live up to my expectations. Maybe that’s because I listened to it piecemeal, a fragment here, and a fragment there. I listened to many other books before going back to this one.

Gideon and Eva (which he pronounces as Ava) get their “happily ever after” after having overcome old lovers, tell-all-books, rapists coming out of the woodwork, death threats, meddling family, complex relationships, secret babies and  the list can go on and on. Despite this all, Eva and Gideon get what they truly deserve, which is each other.

My favorite part of all of the Crossfire novels has been the sex scenes. The author writes great scenes and compelling dirty talk dialogue between her characters, her sex scenes are exceptionally erotic without the characters having to indulge in props or aids.

Although this was supposedly the last book in the series, there are a couple of things left hanging involving supporting characters so maybe, just maybe Sylvia Day will surprise us someday with Book Six.

Her desire becomes his pleasure…

Max Westin. Sex incarnate. She could smell it, feel it with his proximity. Everything about him was a little rough, a little gritty. A primitive creature. Just like she was.

He held her hand a little too long, his thickly-lashed gaze clearly stating his intentions to have her. To tame her…

“Victoria.”

Her name, just one word, but spoken with such possession she could almost feel the collar around her neck.

“It’s in your nature,” he murmured. “The desire to be taken.”

In this game of cat and mouse, everything is an illusion but the passion is as real as it gets…

Review –

I gave this book one star and that’s only because I hated to give it zero stars. I’ve never given a book zero stars but tis one came very close.

Why did I hate this book?  First of all, the blurb in no way gives a hint as to what the book is truly about. If you’ve ever read Sylvia Day then you know what a good story-teller  she is and how hot her sex scenes are, but this book fell flat.

Second, the characters were witches, warlocks, and a familiar and I’m not into paranormal erotic romances.

Third, it was boring.

Don’t waste your time with this one. Ms Day must have had a quota to fill for her publisher or maybe I’m just missing the boat.

The Stranger I Married by Sylvia Day

Book Description:

Published: August 28, 2012

EVERY MARRIAGE HAS ITS SURPRISES…

Gray was beautiful before, four years ago when he asked Isabel to wed him in a marriage of convenience. Now there are no words to describe him. He is no longer a boyish rogue, not by any stretch of the imagination, but a tormented man, driven by secrets, silent about what he’s done since he disappeared.

Isabel knew how to handle the reckless youth he’d been, but this new husband of hers… this darkly passionate man is not tamable. Does she dare explore the places inside herself that Gray demands to possess? Does she trust him enough to bare herself completely to a lover who is an irresistible stranger?

Review –

I’m finding out I’m not a fan of historical fiction or at least I haven’t found one that I really like.

This one takes place in England during the 1800’s.

The story line  for this book was okay but very predictable but made bearable because of the hot sexual chemistry between Isabel and Gray. The sex scenes were well done and very explicit. If it’s true that few women allowed themselves the freedom to genuinely feel the passion that comes along with sex in this time period, I don’t know how they stood it.

Communication is key in all things sexual and both characters had to learn that and be able to be honest with one another about their feelings and what they wanted out of sex. Once they had, they were much much happier and very well satisfied.

Good read but the narrator got on my nerves.

Seven Years to Sin by Sylvia Day

Book Description:

Published: August 30, 2011

The longer the resistance…

Seven years ago, on the eve of her wedding, proper Lady Jessica Sheffield witnessed a licentious scene no innocent young miss could imagine. Shocked, yet strangely titillated, she’d held her silence regarding scandalous Alistair Caulfield, and walked down the aisle as expected. But through years of serene, unremarkable marriage, Caulfield’s image remained burned into her imagination, fueling very illicit dreams…

…the sweeter the reward

Alistair ran far from the temptation of the prim debutante with the fire of passion in her eyes–all the way to the West Indies. As a successful merchant, he has little in common with the rakehell youth she knew. But when newly widowed Jessica steps aboard his ship for a transatlantic passage, seven years’ worth of denied pleasures are held in check by nothing more than a few layers of silk–and the certainty that surrender will consume them both…

Review –

I didn’t care for this book at all even if it the main character, Alistair Caulfield, is an English version of Gideon Cross of the Crossfire series. The plot was too predictable and the narrator’s voice grated on my nerves.   Don’t waste your time!

Captivated by You (Crossfire #4) by Sylvia Day

Book Description:

Published: April 1, 2014

Gideon calls me his angel, but he’s the miracle in my life. My gorgeous, wounded warrior, so determined to slay my demons while refusing to face his own.

The vows we’d exchanged should have bound us tighter than blood and flesh. Instead they opened old wounds, exposed pain and insecurities, and lured bitter enemies out of the shadows. I felt him slipping from my grasp, my greatest fears becoming my reality, my love tested in ways I wasn’t sure I was strong enough to bear.

At the brightest time in our lives, the darkness of his past encroached and threatened everything we’d worked so hard for. We faced a terrible choice: the familiar safety of the lives we’d had before each other or the fight for a future that suddenly seemed an impossible and hopeless dream…

Review –
I was really disappointed with this installment of the Crossfire series because I thought that once Gideon and Eva were married things would settle down a bit-but instead everything in their lives seems to be causing more friction between them than ever before.
I didn’t know that there was a fifth book in the mix so I was quite upset (to say the least) when this book ended leaving a multitude of questions unanswered.
I have faith in the author that in the next book she will let them have their HEA and that things will also work out for Cary and Trey.
Can’t wait til the next book is released.

Entwined With You (Crossfire #3) by Sylvia Day

Book Description:

Published: June 4, 2013

The worldwide phenomenon continues as Eva and Gideon face the demons of their pasts, and accept the consequences of their obsessive desires…

From the moment I first met Gideon Cross, I recognized something in him that I needed. Something I couldn’t resist. I saw the dangerous and damaged soul inside–so much like my own. I was drawn to it. I needed him as surely as I needed my heart to beat.

No one knows how much he risked for me. How much I’d been threatened, or just how dark and desperate the shadow of our pasts would become.

Entwined by our secrets, we tried to defy the odds. We made our own rules and surrendered completely to the exquisite power of possession…

Review –

OMG, Gideon killed Nathan, Eva’s evil step-brother who raped her multiple times, and someone is covering up his tracks.  Why, no one knows, but Gideon realizes that nothing comes free.

Eva meets up with a former rock-star-wanna-be who is also a former lover from years past and now he is a famous rock-star and has written a song about Eva and Gideon sees her kissing Brett and all hell breaks loose and Gideon beats him  fiercely in front of plenty of witnesses and then of course gives Eva the cold shoulder. So what does Eva do-she thinks she’s an awful person and doesn’t deserve to walk in Gideon’s shadow(she really doesn’t think that-but almost). Nothing is ever his fault-she is always the one to blame.

We find out more about his abuse as a child and who lied about it and why. We also learn that his former fiancée, Corrine, is hounding him because she realizes that he really is interested in another woman, Eva. This causes a lot of trouble between Eva and Gideon because of her jealousy.

Cary is 1) beaten to a pulp by Nathan, 2) trying to makes relationships work with Trey and Tatianna AT THE SAME TIME  and 3) surprised and scared  when he finds out that Tatianna is pregnant.  Poor Cary.

Gideon convinces Eva to marry him secretly and then has to rush to the hospital where Corrine is rushed after swallowing a bottle of pills and loses a baby.

With all this turmoil you would expect the book to end on a sad or ominous note, but it ends on a particularly high note, so that tells you that BAD THINGS are coming.

Starting the last of the series tomorrow.  Can’t wait.

Reflected In You (Crossfire #2) by Sylvia Day

Book Description:

Published: October 23, 2012

Gideon Cross. As beautiful and flawless on the outside as he was damaged and tormented on the inside. He was a bright, scorching flame that singed me with the darkest of pleasures. I couldn’t stay away. I didn’t want to. He was my addiction… my every desire… mine.

My past was as violent as his, and I was just as broken. We’d never work. It was too hard, too painful… except when it was perfect. Those moments when the driving hunger and desperate love were the most exquisite insanity.

We were bound by our need. And our passion would take us beyond our limits to the sweetest, sharpest edge of obsession…

Review –

We rejoin Gideon and Eva (Gideon pronounces it Ava) right where we left them at the end of the first book and the story springs into life immediately and takes you on one of the most emotional and exhausting journeys you’re ever likely to see in erotic fiction. Never was the expression ‘Love Hurts’ more appropriate.

Eva and Gideon are in so deep with each other they are practically drowning. They complete each other but their traumatic pasts cast a lengthy shadow over their lives today and nothing is ever going to be easy for them. Eva is still wearing her heart on her sleeve, spilling her secrets to Gideon, telling him she loves him. Gideon is still holding everything back and just demanding that he trust her but she’s not sure she can and his reticence is causing her to lash out and inflict pain in retaliation.

Gideon and Eva are  jealous, obsessive, possessive and very alike and it makes for an explosive relationship both in the bedroom and out. They can’t live with each other  and yet neither one can survive without the other.

I loves this couple and I hate what they do to each other.  Gideon is so secretive about a lot of things, some of them so insignificant that I think he holds back on purpose, but he also has abusive past and nightmares that he will not share with Eva and this causes her to doubt him. He also sees ex-girlfriends and doesn’t tell her  and that just about puts her over the edge. Eva believes that without Gideon and his attention she is worthless (low self esteem much?)  and it’s this that I just can’t stand.  I want to grab her by the shoulder and shake her and tell her that no matter no earth moving, sun blinding, red-hot on fire the sex is-it’s not worth it.  But, she just keeps on apologizing to him for being jealous and he keeps being secretive.

Cary, her bi roommate, gets beaten severely outside of a club and later Eva finds out it’s partly because of her and she believes Gideon is seeing Corrine behind her back and lying about it so she breaks up with him. Drama, drama, drama. Don’t get me wrong I love the series as a whole but I just wish Eva had more of a backbone.

Can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment. I hope Eva is a bit less whiny.

Bared To You (Crossfire #1) by Sylvia Day

Book Description:

Published: February 14, 2014

From #1″ New York Times “bestselling author Sylvia Day comes the provocative masterstroke of abandon and obsession that redefined the meaning of desire, and became a global phenomenon…
Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness…
He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…
Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds…and desires.
The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart…

Review –

This is another new series that I’ve started and it’s called Crossfire.

It’s concerns Gideon Cross (owner of many things, one of which is the Crossfire Building. There he meets Ava and falls head over heels into a obsessive desire to control her. Ava can’t believe that a man like Gideon Cross would fall for her. You can read between the lines that this relationship is truly doomed from the beginning.  Ava was sexually abused by her step-brother for years and now lives with a gay model, whom she met in rehab/therapy.  She also has a serious jealous streak and low self-esteem issues. Gideon has many demons but we don’t know the story behind his wild dreams and his trying to rape Ava  while he was asleep and dreaming. He is going to counseling but it’s too early to see it’s going to help. At the end of the book it is agreed that they are working through their problems and will continue to try to make their relationship work.

I had the audio version and it was HOT.    I love this book  and am now hunting for the second in the series.
