Zara and Nick are soul mates, meant to be together for ever. But that’s not quite how things have worked out. For starters, Nick has gone. He has been taken to the mythical place for warriors known as Valhalla. Zara and her friends might be able to get him back, it’s just not going to be easy. Meanwhile a group of evil pixies is devastating Bedford, with more teens going missing every day. An all-out war seems imminent, and the good guys need all the warriors they can find. But even if Zara and her friends do discover the route to Valhalla, there’s that other small problem: Zara’s been pixie kissed. When she finds Nick, will he even want to go with her? Especially since she hasn’t turned into just any pixie… She’s Astley’s queen

Review –

Nick, Zara’s werewolf boyfriend is in Vahalla, and Zara and her friends have to find a way to get him out and in order to do that she has allowed herself to be pixie kissed by Astley and has become his queen.  How to you think Nick is going to take the news. Yup, not good, not good at all. Love this series.

Captivate (Need #2) by Carrie Jones

Product Description:

Published: December 14, 2010

Zara and her friends thought they’d solved the pixie problem. And they did – sort of. The pixie’s are all locked away, deep in the woods. But the king’s needs grow stronger each day that he is in captivity, while his control over his people weakens. And it’s enough to draw a new king into town. Astley claims he is different. He claims there are pixies who can live peacefully with humans, that it doesn’t have to be all violence and nastiness all the time. Zara wants to believe him…until Astley also claims that she is fated to be his queen.

There is no way Zara would ever turn pixie. And she’s got good friends who will make sure of that. Besides, she and Nick are so in love they’re practically inseparable. But when they very thing Zara wants to protect most is exactly what’s at risk, she is forced to make choices she never imagined.

Review-

The Pixie King is Zara’s father and is captured along with some of his followers while Zara and her friends decide what to do.  Astley,(a good pixie-if there is such a thing) tells Zara that she is meant to be his queen.  Just another day in the life of an average teenager. Yeah. Loved it regardless and look forward to the next installment.

Need (Need #1) by Carrie Jones

Product Description:

Published: December 8, 2009

Zara collects phobias the way other girls collect Facebook friends. Little wonder, since life’s been pretty rough so far. Her father left, her stepfather just died, and her mother’s pretty much checked out. Now Zara’s living with her grandmother in sleepy, cold Maine so that she stays “safe.” Zara doesn’t think she’s in danger; she thinks her mother can’t deal.

Wrong. Turns out that guy she sees everywhere, the one leaving trails of gold glitter, isn’t a figment of her imagination. He’s a pixie—and not the cute, lovable kind with wings. He’s the kind who has dreadful, uncontrollable needs. And he’s trailing Zara.

With suspense, romance, and paranormal themes, this exciting breakout novel has readers rapidly turning the pages.

Review-

If you didn’t know anything about phobias you will by the time you finish reading the first installment of the Need Series by Carrie Jones. Zara, the main character, goes around counting  and collecting phobias when she nervous or goes through a rough patch in her life.  She has to move from Charleston,SC to Maine to live with her grandmother, start a new school and make friends. Not as easy as it sounds if the town you now live in is the hotbed for pixies and a war is brewing. There is romance, mystery, werewolves and other were animals and a surprise around every corner. It is a fast read and I gave it five stars *****.

Here are a few phobias: (just to name a few)

No true Hollows aficionado will want to pass this up—and readers of Laurell K. Hamilton, Kelley Armstrong, Patricia Briggs, and Jim Butcher; fans of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight novels and of paranormal romance superstars Christine Feehan and Sherrilyn Kenyon, will be likewise enchanted.

Review:

I’m a great fan of author, Kim Harrison, and this collection of short stories about the Hollows and the characters I love was a very pleasant read.  Since they are short stories, some much longer than others, you don’t have to feel guilty about sitting in a comfy chair and spending a couple of hours when housework is calling.

It answered some questions that were left hanging in the series and made the stories make sense and the characters have more dept.

This book is a keeper.

Fans of Charlaine Harris and Stephenie Meyer won’t be able to resist Kim Harrison’s alternative universe—urban fantasy Cincinnati complete with vampires, witches, and other enchanting creatures—where spine-tingling adventures and fast-paced action are the norm.

Review –
This book was fantastic, fast paced, full of adventure, interaction between favorite characters and a tense hint a romance.  I could not put it down.
That being said, I wish just once Rachel could find happiness in the arms of a man or paranormal man, namely Trent Kalamack.  I know he has feelings for her too but he just will not commit.  I held my breath for a few pages hoping that it would work out in this book, but alas, it did not.  There were kisses, good kisses but he walks away AS A FRIEND.  Can you believe it?   Please, please, I beg of you Ms. Harrison, give us a great romantic story line with Rachel and Trent.
Pretty please with sugar on top.

Review –
I’ve read all the books in The Hollows series and this ranks as one of the best for a number of reasons.  First, I found it very hard to put down, second, Rachel’s character, though obnoxious in the beginning  grows to maturity by the end(leading up to something special in the next installment, I hope.) and third Kim Harrison’s book are always entertaining and each plot gets better and better.  If you are looking for a new series to start, I HIGHLY recommend you start The Hollows.
