The Boy and His Ribbon (The Ribbon Duet #1) by Pepper Winters

Book Description:

Published: April 1, 2018

Format: E-Book/OverDrive

What do you do when you meet your soul mate? No wait…that’s too easy. What do you do when you meet your soul mate and have to spend a lifetime loving him in secret?
I’ll tell you what you do.
You lie.”

Ren was eight when he learned that love doesn’t exist–that the one person who was supposed to adore him only cared how much he was worth.
His mother sold him and for two years, he lived in terror.
But then…he ran.
He thought he’d run on his own. Turned out, he took something of theirs by accident and it became the one thing he never wanted and the only thing he ever needed.

I was young when I fell in love with him, when he switched from my world to my everything.
My parents bought him for cheap labour, just like they had with many other kids, and he had the scars to prove it.
At the start, he hated me, and I could understand why.
For years he was my worst enemy, fiercest protector, and dearest friend.
But by the end…he loved me.
The only problem was, he loved me in an entirely different way to the way I loved him.
And slowly, my secret drove us apart.

A True Coming Of Age Story.

Review –

This is the story of Ren and Della through the span of ten years. How they met, what they faced, how they protected each other. Every low and every up. Every hope and every despair. Every moment of innocent joy and every lust filled thoughts.

Told in dual POV with Della writing her story for a school assignment it had an enthralling quality.

But, you have to go into this story with an open mind. You have to believe in something that’s hardly believable. Don’t shy away. Don’t be picky and think it’s just impossible. Just go with the flow and let the story lull you into its depth.

The reader witnesses  Ren going from a young boy to a man and Della from baby to young woman. All this through incredibly harsh circumstances. It’s about taboo feelings and angst that sometimes has no place to go.

It ends on a cliffhanger or rather an open ending or an ending that you want to change and I can’t wait for the sequel.

Dollars (Dollar #2) by Pepper Winters

Book Description:

Published: November 18, 2016

Format: Audio/Audible

“I should never have asked for a night with you. This would never have happened if I’d had more willpower.”

A thief met a possession and did what he did best. Now, he has to live with the consequences. Including the girl he claimed.

Pimlico was stolen and sold all before her twenty-first birthday. Two years with a master who almost killed her is over. She has a new master now. A master who demands everything, expects everything, and requires ultimate access to her mind.

Elder broke countless rules when he took the girl who wasn’t his. She confuses and bewitches him, but his fascination won’t save her from his desires.

He wants to know her. She wants to forget. Together…they’re doomed.

Pimlico: Once upon a time, I was a mute captive who wished for death.
Now, I’m stowed away on a yacht.
Saved and taken, the thief who stole me demands my voice, my past, my everything.
I won’t give in.
But Elder refuses to take no for an answer.
He pushes and cajoles, slowly discovering who I am. Until I find out he plays the cello to escape his demons, all while his music conjures mine.
He’s rich, I’m bankrupt.
I’m mute by choice, he’s curious by nature.
So many reasons why we can never work.
But that doesn’t stop our connection, our passion.
Until one night, he ruins everything.

Review –

I loved the little tidbits of Elder’s past that were revealed in this installment of the series, Dollar. He remains in large part a mystery, but slowly pieces of the puzzle are falling into place. I look forward to knowing what brought him to where he is at today. He’s not all bad, but not good either, and the struggle between both is a constant internal war within him.

As for Pim, her strength through adversity is compelling. I can’t wait for the connection between her and Elder to be explored more fully. The way he has of reading her is so intriguing. But even as she escapes one prison, she is still a victim of her conditioning. Will she ever be able to act and be viewed as a normal young woman? only time will tell. Just when I think she may be giving in a little something happens to draw her back into herself.

Prepare yourself for another jaw-dropping ending. I want nothing more than for Pim to be whole again, and for these two to find their HEA together. Unfortunately, they both will have to face down their past before that can happen. I look forward to the next three books, and seeing where this roller coaster ride ends up.

Be warned that there are many triggers in this book.

Nila Weaver no longer recognises herself. She’s left her lover, her courage, and her promise. Two debts down. Too many to go.

It’s almost time. It’s demanding to be paid.

The Third Debt will be the ultimate test…

Review –

After Nila is rescued, Cut marches Jethro down to the dungeon to let Daniel(the psycho) beat him to within an inch of his life and he’s not allowed to fight back. After the beating, Cut makes a deal with Jethro telling him he has new drugs that will “cure” him so that they can Nila back and finish with the Debt Inheritance. Cut says it’s that so he’d give her over to Daniel. So Jethro starts the drugs only to find that he has underestimated Cut-Cut knew what these pills would do to him. They made Jet’s mind like a sponge, ready to absorb all the hate that Cut fed it.

The Hawks had always hated Nila’s brother, V, but now they despised him because he was going to all the social media outlets and telling the world all about the Hawks and their sinister Debt Inheritance practices, trying to bring down their empire. But all this publicity had also effected Nila’s family, causing her vertigo bouts to triple, her father to become a hermit and the news media to hound their entire family.

After several days, Nila can not longer stand it, and texts Kite just as Cut knew she would. The trap was set. Cut tells Jethro that if Nila is pregnant when they get her back, not to worry, he’ll get rid of it.  Jet is just numb and wants to Debt Inheritance to be over.

After almost a month Kite answers her text saying that he’s coming for her. She is willing to go but can tell from his text that he’s different.

Jet, Kerstel, and Flaw ride their motorcycles to London and threatens to kill her and her family if she doesn’t coming quietly.

Upon arrival at Hawksridge, Cut gives her contraception injection against her will and she is forced to do a live interview with Vanity Fair to ward off any more bad press now she’s back in the hands of the Hawks.

Days go by and Jethro and Nila are drawn to each other even though it is painful to him and dangerous to her. He reveals to her that his disease/diesorder is HSP.  Highly Sensitive Person. He can read everyone’s emotions and they overwhelm him and so the drugs help numb him. Nila realizes that her emotions (her love) have been hurting him. He finally admits that he loves Nila and later that evening Cut comes in and tell him it’s time for the Third Debt. Jet knows that this particular debt requires him to share Nila sexually and he and Kestrel cook up a plan to fool Cut and Daniel but it goes wrong and Cut pulls a gun and shots both Kestrel and Jethro and gives Nila over to psycho Daniel.   OMG!   Can’t wait for the next book.

Second Debt (Indebted #3) by Pepper Winters

Book Description:

Published: January 26, 2015

“I tried to play a game. I tried to wield deceit as perfectly as the Hawks. But when I thought I was winning, I wasn’t. Jethro isn’t what he seems—he’s the master of duplicity. However, I refuse to let him annihilate me further.”

Nila Weaver has grown from naïve seamstress to full-blown fighter. Every humdrum object is her arsenal, and sex…sex is her greatest weapon of all.

She’s paid the First Debt. She’ll probably pay more.

But she has no intention of letting the Hawks win.

Jethro Hawk has found more than a worthy adversary in Nila—he’s found the woman who could destroy him. There’s a fine line between hatred and love, and an even finer path between fear and respect.

The fate of his house rests on his shoulders, but no matter how much ice lives inside his heart, Nila flames too bright to be extinguished.

Review –

Things seemed to have settled down a bit for Jethro and Nila at the beginning of the third book in the Indebted Series, at least for a short time.  Daniel, Jethro’s psychotic brother is always wanting to take Nila as he own, so much so, that Nila is now carrying a dirk under her dresses for protection.  Kestrel is still the nice calming brother but Nila doesn’t feel the same about him as she has in the past.

She is allowed to go with the entire family to a Polo match and at half time Jethro finds her and they have mad passionate sex against some scaffolding. He wants Nila so bad but still is torn because of what he is (we still haven’t learned that secret) and his not being what he father wants him to be.

A few days after the Polo event, Cut, Jethro’s Dad tells him it’s time for the second debt to be paid.  Jethro thinks it’s too soon but Cut  wants it done now so he can see if Jethro is living up to the family coldness and sense of duty. Jethro brings Nila to a lake and there waiting is, Kestrel, Daniel, Cut and Bonnie,(Jethro’s grandmother-who is hateful) to witness that the debt is repaid correctly.

A fourteen year old ancestor of theirs was falsely accused of witchcraft by a Weaver and sentenced to drown in the 1400’s, so that is the second debt Nila is required to repay. She is strapped to a dunking chair and dunked under freezing cold  water several times for various lengths of time.  Jethro has no choice but to carry out the debt as written in the Hawk history books. Nila is dead when Jethro finally brings her ashore and revives her with mouth to mouth resuscitation. He then takes her to a natural underground spring to bring up her body temperature. It takes a while but she finally is able to stand on her own in the spring.  He tells her that he will replace the bad memories with good ones and they have mad passionate sex in the spring. Afterwards Jethro tells her that he will tall her his secret in a few days.

A few days later law enforcement forces their way onto Hawk land with warrants to get Nila and take her home. Of course, Cut is furious and doesn’t want to let her go but Bonnie says to let her go but tells Nila and THIS IS NOT OVER YET. Jethro doesn’t want her to go and Nila wants to stay with him but he forces her to go. Cut tells Jethro they have to talk.(that will not be good-Cut has told his oldest son that he can get rid of him at any time)

Five Stars *****

Love this series.

First Debt (Indebted #2) By Pepper Winters

Book Description:

Published: November 12, 2014

You say I’ll never own you. If I win—you willingly give me that right. You sign not only the debt agreement, but another—one that makes me your master until your last breath is taken. You do that, and I’ll give you this.”

Nila Weaver’s family is indebted. Stolen, taken, and bound not by monsters but by an agreement written over six hundred years ago, she has no way out.

She belongs to Jethro as much as she denies it.

Jethro Hawk’s patience is running out. His inheritance gift tests, challenges, and surprises him—and not in good ways. He hasn’t leashed her but he thinks he might’ve found a way to bind her forever.

Debts are mounting. Payment waiting.

Review –

At the end of the first book Jethro allowed Nila to make a run for freedom, knowing full well that he could easily find her. He said he’d give her a forty-five minute head start but only gave her twenty and rounded up the dogs and set out to bring her back.

Nila heard the dogs and knew they would find her so she climbed high in a tree. Jethro knew she was there but pretended not to notice until some time had passed. Finally, he made himself know and Nila came down. Heated tempers and words lead to a sexual encounter and afterwards they returned to Hawks Hall.

Jethro try to distance himself from Nila because he feels his defenses weakening every time he’s near her. While he’s away, Nila gets closer to his brother, Kestrel, whom Nila thinks is the one who goes by Kite007 when texting her.

Eventually Jethro gives in  to Nila and uses her name instead of Ms. Weaver, when they have sex. She also concedes and begs him to have sex with her. He knows that by having pleasurable sex with her he is breaking all the rules of the Hawks concerning a Weaver Whore, and they could both end up dying.

Afterwards, he again stays away from Nila and temptation and that leaves Nila alone with her phone. She ends it with Kite007 and runs into Kestrel and finds out that Jethro’s nickname is KITE.

Five stars *****

Now, onto the next book.  Fantastic series.

Debt Inheritance (Indebted #1) by Pepper Winters

Nila Weaver’s family is indebted. Being the first born daughter, her life is forfeit to the first born son of the Hawks to pay for sins of ancestors past. The dark ages might have come and gone, but debts never leave. She has no choice in the matter.

There are no rules. Only payments.

Review –

I read the first book in the Indebted Series in two sittings, but in one day and I rated it five stars *****.

Nila Weaver is a famous fashion designer and has the world at her feet and the love of her family around her.  Little does she know that because of something that happened over 600 years ago, she will soon be forced to leave her life behind and become the possession of Jethro Hawk and his family.

When she’s taken she never loses her fiery spirit and it gets her into a lot of trouble. Jethro’s job is to train her to obey and repay the debt owned to the Hawks family. She is subjected to countless sexual humiliating acts and finally can take no more and lets the Hawks have it, no holds barred. Jethro takes her out to the woods and tells her that he is going to give her forty five minutes head start and then he will hunt her down.  If she can make it to the Hawk property boundary he will grant her freedom and so the debt paid in full. But if he wins, she must obey him  and the other men in his family to the end of her days. And it is up to them when her last day on earth will be.

This story is powerful and will make your pulse quicken and your breathing rapid. It took me a while to relax after finishing the book, it’s that good!
