Love. Lies. Murder. A lot can happen… COME SUNDOWN

Bodine Longbow loves to rise with the dawn. As the manager of her family’s resort in Western Montana, there just aren’t enough hours in the day – for life, for work, for loved ones. She certainly doesn’t have time for love, not even in the gorgeous shape of her childhood crush Callen Skinner, all grown up and returned to the ranch. Then again, maybe Callen can change her mind, given time…

But when a young woman’s body is discovered on resort land, everything changes. Callen falls under the suspicion of a deputy sheriff with a grudge. And for Bodine’s family, the murder is a shocking reminder of an old loss. Twenty-five years ago, Bodine’s Aunt Alice vanished, never to be heard of again. Could this new tragedy be connected to Alice’s mysterious disappearance?

As events take a dramatic and deadly turn, Bodine and Callen must race to uncover the truth – before the sun sets on their future together.

Review –

Nora Roberts always tells a good story that balances romance and suspense, but in this title, the narrative is deeper, the mystery is more layered, and with Alice, Roberts moves into another level of exploring physical and emotional trauma and the powerful healing power of family and love.

If you haven’t guessed-I’ve given this book five stars!  Once I started this book, it was very hard to stop listening, it was seventeen hours and seventeen minutes long, so I had to stop in order to keep up the appearance of do a little something around the house.

Over two decades ago, rebellious Alice Bodine ran away from her Montana home to make her fortune in Hollywood—only to head back three years later. But her return was derailed when she was captured and made prisoner by an off the grid religious fanatic. Flash to the present day, when the Bodine estate is a thriving dude ranch and luxury resort. Bodine Longbow, Alice’s niece, works hard ensuring that the day-to-day operations at the resort run smoothly, even as she comes face-to-face with her childhood crush, Callen Skinner, who has returned to Montana from California. As the attraction builds between Callen and Bodine, Alice miraculously escapes her captor and is welcomed back into the family fold. Her tale of abuse and torture at the hands of her captor coincides with the recent brutal murder of two young women. The suspense continues to rise as law enforcement searches for the killer and Alice’s kidnapper.

The combination of details of ranch/resort life, the strength of the women of the family, mixed with romance and mystery make this a five-star read, for sure.

Definitel   put this one on your TBR list!

The Obsession by Nora Roberts

Book Description:

Published: April 12, 2016

Format: Audio/Audible

“She stood in the deep, dark woods, breath shallow and cold prickling over her skin despite the hot, heavy air. She took a step back, then two, as the urge to run fell over her.”

Naomi Bowes lost her innocence the night she followed her father into the woods. In freeing the girl trapped in the root cellar, Naomi revealed the horrible extent of her father’s crimes and made him infamous. No matter how close she gets to happiness, she can’t outrun the sins of Thomas David Bowes.

Now a successful photographer living under the name Naomi Carson, she has found a place that calls to her, a rambling old house in need of repair, thousands of miles away from everything she’s ever known. Naomi wants to embrace the solitude, but the kindly residents of Sunrise Cove keep forcing her to open up—especially the determined Xander Keaton.

Naomi can feel her defenses failing, and knows that the connection her new life offers is something she’s always secretly craved. But the sins of her father can become an obsession, and, as she’s learned time and again, her past is never more than a nightmare away.

Review –

I’ll start off first saying that this book may be too much for readers who have a difficult time with stories of abuse, physical and emotional, as well as murder/serial killers. Naomi’s father was a monster. Plain and simple. And as this was told from multiple POVs, there are parts later on where we see things from a killer’s mindset which was not pretty. But it was definitely relevant to the story and helped to see just how twisted the individual was.

“The characters, both main and secondary, I thought, were great. Brave Naomi had been through so, so very much and I liked that she was still working on her issues regarding her traumatic past. Because of that, she didn’t want to get close to Xander. I liked him as well and thought he might seem a bit *too* good to be true, but I got such a kick out of his easy way of teasing Naomi, getting her to smile. I thought their connection rang true as well, starting off with physical attraction and evolving into much more. And I would be remiss not to mention Naomi’s uncles Seth and Harry. I absolutely adored them and how they supported Naomi and Mason throughout their lives.

What I really liked overall about The Obsession was how Roberts was able to take what could have been a dark and very heavy story and basically added in contemporary romance to lighten the overall tone. There were some great lighthearted moments between Naomi and Xander, with their quick-witted bantering as they got to know each other. Plus Naomi’s dog Tag was like comic relief in several scenes. (One involving a Cone of Shame which was hilarious and realistic to a dog owner!)” taken from harlequinjunkie.com

Fantastic Read!

Review –

I was very disappointed in this new release by Nora Roberts. Normally I have nothing but praise for her work but this left me flat. From the very beginning it was so cliché and predictable.

Girl from small town is swept off her feet by rich handsome man from big city and end up married. They live in a big mansion and she has cars, jewels, clothes, anything she could want. They have a baby and he could care less and becomes distance.  He travels  alot on his job and one day goes out for a boat ride in a storm and is “drown”. After his death she discovers nothing they had was real. Everything was on credit and she owes over two million dollars in debt. She sells everything and moves back home to the small town she grew up in, still a million dollars in debt. She meets and handsome contractor who falls for her and her daughter immediately. She finds out her “dead” husband had many identities and they were never really married and on top of that he stole millions of dollars worth of jewelry and stamps and now some bad guys think she knows where it is. Of course, the husband is not dead and you know the rest of the story …

Sorry Ms. Roberts, I gave it three stars ***

Born In Ice (Born In Trilogy #2) by Nora Roberts

Product Description:

Published:  October 1, 2013

Three modern sisters bound by the timeless beauty of Ireland…

When the harsh storms of winter descended upon western Ireland, the locals stayed indoors – and visitors stayed away. Brianna Concannon’s bed-and-breakfast became a cold and empty place. But that was fine with Brianna. She enjoyed the peace and quiet, even when the icy winds howled at her window.

But this year, cool, capable and thoroughly domestic Brianna is expecting an unusual guest – mystery writer Grayson Thane, from America. A restless wanderer with a painful past, he plans to spend the cold winter alone. But sometimes fate has a plan of its own.

Review –

I didn’t think this next installment of the Born In Trilogy  would be as good as the first, Born In Fire, but it was, if not better.

Grayson is so closed off and mysterious and Brianna is so cool, calm and collected that you’d never see them as a pair, but the old saying that “opposites attract” is true in their case. Their chemistry was anything but ice-like.

I love this series and have started on the third and final book in the series and I can’t wait to see the way the author, Nora Roberts, ties up all the loose ends.

A great read!

Review –
You can always depend on author, Nora Roberts, to provide reading entertainment with a good plot, engaging characters, romance, and danger while teaching us something about the growing of grapes and the making of wine.  I enjoyed it very much.

Review –
This is a great story of murder, romance, theft, intrigue, and suspense and I consider it to be one of the best by author, Nora Roberts.  The characters are very realistic and even though I questioned some of their actions,( I think they should have involved the police long before they actually did) it is a book of fiction, after all, and I loved it.

Review –

I haven’t read anything lately by Nora Roberts so I was anxious to get into this one. I choose the audio version and I thought the narrator did a great job.(This is always very important for an audiobook-a narrator can make or break a book)

The  story combines legends and a hunt for treasure with present day happenings and throws in a romance for good measure. Jealousy, greed, murder, mystery, romance, family history and a magical house called Bluff House will combine to capture your imagination and keep you turning pages or inserted discs(my case) and when it’s over you’ll wish it wasn’t. I highly recommend it.

Review –

This is the final installment of the Sign of the Seven  trilogy and although it was very good ,the ending  was anti-climatic for me and  amd made the entire series feel a bit short.  Maybe the author was getting a bit tired of this storyline and decided on a quick end of the situation.  Anyway, I’m glad I read the series but I won’t be reading it again.
