A steamy small town love story – A unique and full of feels second chance romance

One fiery night with a beautiful woman makes Lock feel alive again, but he doesn’t realize it’s her, his obsession from the past. His mentor’s widow.

When her biker husband was murdered sixteen years ago, Grace Quillen took off from her small hometown forever. But when tragedy strikes again, forty-two year old Grace must return to care for her sister and little nephew. One night she indulges in explosive heat with Lock, an attractive stranger she meets at a bar, but the morning after, she’s shaken by her fateful mistake.

Why?
He’s no stranger.

Not only is he an officer in her husband’s bike club, but the two men had once been close friends, although Grace had never had a chance to meet him. Fate is a twisted bitch with a bitter sense of humor.

Lock had heard all about Grace from her husband years ago, from his brothers, seen her in photographs. Hell, she’d become his ultimate dream woman. A fantasy.
Now that once-in-a-lifetime fantasy is his reality, and he’s craving more. A hell of a lot more.
But the club has other plans. For the two of them.

A brutal firestorm is ignited by a traitor in the MC, and suddenly Grace is in the thick of the dangerous life she’d once left behind. Yet she and Lock are on opposite sides of the mayhem. With her nephew’s safety at risk and so many volatile secrets on the line, she must summon all her determination and grit, while Lock is driven to find the fight in himself once more and do whatever it takes to protect Grace, whether she or his president wants him to or not.

Suspicions simmer, loyalties strain, hearts ache.
The truth hurts.

Once Grace and Lock had nothing.
Now, they both have so damn much to lose.

Review –

This is a gritty kind of story. It’s raw. It’s dark. I LOVED it! It’s so engagingly written that you can’t stop reading/listening  even when you are hating what’s happening and don’t really want to go on any further.

An Old Lady in her previous life, Grace aka Little Sister left her home and never looks back after tragedy left her broken on the side of a road. When her sister falls seriously ill, she has no option but to go back and be there for her. On the way, a couple of hours away from her hometown, she meets a stranger in a bar. Their chemistry is unbelievable and Grace and Miller share a steamy hot night together. Unbeknownst to her, Miller’s road name is Lock and is a member of the MC she left behind sixteen years before. Thrown back into that life, she’ll have to face new hardships and consequences that have been brewing since the heartbreaking end of her happiness. As the author takes us on a back and forth journey of Grace’s life we see how her former life influences and shapes her present and how she must struggle to rise above and not lose herself in the process.

This is not a heart and flowers story, it’s rough and twisted and even though I hated many of the choices they made I simply couldn’t stop reading. There is a warning I’d give as this might be a turn off for many people (it sometimes is for me)our couple has sex with other people in more than one instance. It is not cheating per se, as they are not in a committed (or any other kind, really) of relationship. It all makes sense in the end, but still, they were already together more than once when this happens and it’s a tough pill to swallow.  As I said, even when you don’t agree with their choices, and you want to slap them, in the head with a chair, you just have to keep on reading/listening.

I was completely into their story and I connected with the characters, and you can feel they are real people, with real people’s faults, vices, struggles and difficulties and I particularly like that the author made them in their early forties. This is not a young or first love kind of story.

It is still a love story, and I was overjoyed at how after everything is worked out. The author gives us time to see the couple settle and just be together and then she gave me that epilogue. It was perfect, because after that rough ride you just need a bit of sweet, and you are left with a smile on your face.

Fantastic start to a series with LOTS of very hot sex and not so nice people.

Out of Time ( Nine Minutes #2) by Beth Flynn

Book Description:

Published: July 21, 2015

Format: Audio/Audible

Stars: 5

Out of Time is book two in a series. It is not a standalone novel. I highly recommend that you read my first novel, Nine Minutes, to be able to understand the background stories of the main characters. There are many twists and turns in both books that can best be connected if read consecutively.

Although I do answer the outstanding questions from Nine Minutes, there is more to this story, and some readers may consider it a cliffhanger. If you do not like cliffhangers, you may want to wait until the third novel is released in 2016. Other readers may be satisfied with the answers and the ending. Regardless of which category you fall into, I hope you enjoy the story.

They thought with his execution it would all be over.
They were wrong.

The leader of one of South Florida’s most notorious and brutal motorcycle gangs has been put to death by lethal injection. Days later, his family and friends should have been picking up the pieces, moving on. Instead, they’ve been catapulted into a world so twisted and dangerous even the most ruthless among them would be stunned to discover the tangled web of deception, not only on the dangerous streets of South Florida but all the way to the top.

In this gripping follow-up novel to Nine Minutes, Out of Time takes readers from the sun-drenched flatlands of 1950s Central Florida to the vivid tropical heat of Fort Lauderdale to the halls of Florida’s Death Row as we finally learn the gritty backstory of Jason “Grizz” Talbot and the secret he spent his life trying to conceal.

Not even Grizz’s inner circle knows his full story—the tragedy that enveloped his early life, the surprise discovery that made him the government’s most wanted and most feared, and the depths of his love for Ginny, the tenderhearted innocent he’d once abducted and later made his wife.

Once Grizz’s obsession and now the mother of his child, Ginny has spent years grieving the man she’d first resisted and then came to love. Now remarried to Tommy, a former member of the gang, the pair have spent more than a decade trying desperately to live a normal existence far from the violent, crime-ridden world they’d once carved out on the edge of the Florida Everglades. For Tommy, especially, the stakes are high. Desperately in love with Ginny for years, he’s finally living his dream: married to the woman he never thought he could have. But even with the façade of normalcy—thriving careers, two beautiful children, and a genuinely happy and loving marriage—they can’t seem to put the past behind them. Every time they turn around, another secret is revealed, unraveling the very bonds that hold them together.

And with Grizz finally put to death, now Ginny has learned secrets so dark, so evil she’s not even sure she can go on.

Will these secrets tear their love to pieces? And how far will Grizz go to protect what he still considers his, even from beyond the grave?

Review –

Out of Time is written as a continuation to Nine Minutes but with detailed flashbacks of the past. This can be dizzying as a reader, the back and forth, however, it flows smoothly and is easy to follow. The backstory helps the reader understand the characters on a deeper level.

I loved Grizz in Nine Minutes and that ending wrecked me. My love and compassion for him only intensified with Out of Time. Grizz isn’t the typical hero. He is gruff and cold and vicious but there’s so much more to him. The author does an amazing job with his character. He has many layers and his love for Kit is unconditional. It is a testament to the author’s talent the way she is able to create a character such as Grizz and have you not only root for him but love him and feel torn by the situation Grizz, Kit and Tommy are cast in.  Tommy’s character is just as fantastic. I love him. He is intelligent, thoughtful, caring and devoted, not to mention gorgeous and cunning. This is a triangle of epic and disturbing proportions.

This story had quite a few WTF moments for me.  The writing kept me engaged from beginning to end. A few twists and turns I did not see coming and some I hoped for. Don’t blink or you may miss something.  Please heed the author’s warning.  There is violence and sexual situations, though not extremely graphic.  At one point I wanted to scream and and shut off my audio device, I wanted to crawl into the pages and throttle a few of the characters. The plot definitely thickens and I don’t know what the future holds for Ginny. But I cannot wait to find out! I NEED MORE!! Oh, and did I mention CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!!

Having to decompress by listening to “softer” books. Stress from reading is a definite thing!

Slashes in the Snow (Baum Squad Novel #1) by M. Never

Ky
Three years ago my father walked away. Away from our MC club, all his responsibilities, and me. We haven’t spoken since the day he handed me the keys to the kingdom.

Shoved them down my throat was more like it.

I hate him, and the new family he’s playing house with. He left his entire life behind for a woman he barely knows. But I’m strong, resilient, and don’t need a damn soul to survive.
At least, that’s what I thought…until she walked into my bar.

Kira
Someone is watching me. I can feel it. I wake up in the middle of the night freaked out of my mind, paranoid a stranger is there. My skin prickles every time I leave my house, because I know someone is following me.
I’m afraid. Alone. And there’s only one person left to turn to.

The stepbrother I never met. The man my stepfather speaks so highly about, but never sees. He’s the president of a notorious motorcycle club, and exactly the kind of person I need to protect me.

Little did I know, Ky Parish, freakin’ hates my guts.

Review –

Slashes in the Snow is an enemies to lovers, stepbrother romance, romantic suspense (emphasis on romance) with dark elements and a motorcycle club throw in for good measure.  What more could a female reader ask for?

Fantastic read!

Good Men (Book Two) by Lucia Jordan

Book Description:

Published: August 18, 2017

Format: E-Book

There was no blurb given for this book. It’s just a repeat of the one used for Book One.  You would think the author would want to let her readers know what to expect in the second book.

Review –

I found this one a bit on the boring side, although there was a lot of action, (bedroom sex, fast get-a-ways on a motorcycle, and confronting Kevin and Liam’s old girlfriend at the Den(motorcycle club))

I felt it was too short and that this whole series should have been written as one book. BUT, then I wouldn’t have to buy books three and four and I’m too invested not to continue the series.

Passable read.

Reaper’s Legacy (Reapers MC #2) by Joanna Wylde

Book Description:

Published: January 28, 2014

Format: Audio/Audible

Eight years ago, Sophie gave her heart-and her virginity-to Zach Barrett on a night that couldn’t have been less romantic or more embarrassing. Zach’s step-brother, a steely-muscled, tattooed biker named Ruger, caught them in the act, getting a peep show of Sophie he’s never forgotten.

She may have lost her dignity that fateful night, but Sophie also gained something precious-her son Noah. Unfortunately, Zach’s a deadbeat dad, leaving Ruger to be Noah’s only male role model. When he discovers Sophie and his nephew living in near poverty, Ruger takes matters into his own hands-with the help of the Reapers Motorcycle Club-to give them a better life.

Living with outlaw bikers wasn’t Sophie’s plan for her son, but Ruger isn’t giving her a choice. He’ll be there for Noah, whether she wants him or not. But Sophie does want him, has always wanted him. Now she’ll learn that taking a biker to bed can get a girl dirty in every way.

Review –

This is the  seconding the Reaper’s Motorcycle Club series and  mixes a super-hot bad guy, a struggling young single mother, and sex that blisters the imagination, resulting in a thrill ride as raw as it is well written. When Sophie was a teen, she lost her virginity to Zach Barrett, the boy she thought she loved. She also suffered the mortification of having his hot stepbrother, Ruger, catch them in the act. She got pregnant, and Zach turned out to be a deadbeat dad. Eight years later, Ruger swoops in to rescue Sophie and her son from poverty, with the caveat that she must accept the rules of the Reapers Motorcycle Club, who will be her new family. Stubborn Sophie resists the club and lady-killer Ruger at every turn, but their mutual attraction is beyond her control. Filled with rough language, no-holds-barred sex, the rumblings of a biker war, and threats from the past, this fast-paced novel entertains while setting up the next book in the series, Devil’s Game, which deals with Hunter and Emily.

Excellent read.

Asunder (Iron Bulls MC #1) by Phoenyx Slaughter

Book Description:

Published: 2015

Format: Free Digital Book

Karina:
For most of my life I thought Logan and I were meant to be together. We grew up next door to each other. Neither of us had happy homes, but together we found a sort of peace. He was only three years older than me, but when you’re a child, that’s a lot. I looked up to him. Loved him with everything I had.

He kept me safe. Protected me. Eventually I gave him everything. My heart, my love, my virginity. He disappeared without a word. When I finally found him, he said I couldn’t be part of his life anymore.
He broke my heart.

Then I met Dante, and the perfect plan to get even with Logan began to form in my mind. Dante is older, dark, dangerous, and the Sargent-at-Arms of the Iron Bulls MC. The same MC Logan joined when he left me.

Dante:
Karina Rivers was supposed to be a one-time afternoon distraction. I’m way too old and twisted for someone as innocent as her.
I want her anyway. She doesn’t realize she has the power to tear this MC apart.

Review –

I love a good MC contemporary romance and the author, Phoenyx Slaughter, really delivers in this book.

Karina is more than a little upset with Logan for breaking up with her the way he did so she has a scheme to make him jealous. She plans to hook up with Dante, a much older and rougher man in the same motorcycle club as Logan.

She doesn’t have long to wait because Logan walks in on her and Dante in a very compromising situation that has to deal with a pool table in the MC clubhouse. Logan doesn’t give her the huge jealous reaction she was looking for, instead, he just seemed concerned that she was there, period!

What started out as a scheme to make Logan jealous has become secondary once she gets to know thirty-four year old Dante and soon he feels more for Karina than just a casual lay. Soon she’s living with Dante.

They have a very unique but strange (she calls him “Daddy”, which makes me cringe ever time she does) relationship and he’s very protective of her and wants what’s best for her.

All this time Logan is seething and finally kidnaps Karina but she calls Dante but it goes straight to  voicemail. Will he be able to get to her in time?  END   Talk about a cliffhanger, so naturally I had to buy the next in the series and will report on it later.

Under Locke by Mariana Zapata

Book Description:

Published: January 19, 2014

He was my boss, my brother’s friend, a Widower, an ex-felon, and a man I’d seen casually with a handful of women. But he was everything that gripped me, both the good and the bad. Worst case scenario if things turned awkward between us, I could go somewhere else. I’d gotten over epic heartbreak before, one more wouldn’t kill me.

After moving to Austin following six months of unemployment back home, Iris Taylor knows she should be glad to have landed a job so quickly… even if the business is owned by a member of the same motorcycle club her estranged father used to belong to. Except Dex Locke might just be the biggest jerk she’s ever met. He’s rude, impatient and doesn’t know how to tell time.

And the last thing they ever expected was each other.

But it was either the strip club or the tattoo shop.

… she should have chosen the strip club.

offers-headphones-jpgmaxheight138maxwidth207

This is a contemporary sexual, erotic, motorcycle club  romance with humor thrown in, and I usually don’t care for that combination but this book is a treasure.

You have Iris, a twenty-four year old virgin who is as good as good gets. Her father, a motorcycle club member from way back left her and her mom and brother when she was fourteen. She had cancer at the time  and her Mom later died of cancer. She’s moved to Austin and is living with her stepbrother and he has gotten her a job with Dex at Pins and Needles, a tattoo shop. Dex, on the other hand, is crude, rude, violent,short-tempered and told to keep his hands off Iris.

The sexual chemistry between Iris, whom Dex calls “ritz”, and Dex is HOT and although Iris calls him all sorts of names in her head, she can’t stop thinking about him. Some of the names she calls him ar “dick”, “dickhead”, “your highness” and Charlie (because his first name is Charles).

She hates him from the start and he just can’t be bothered, but as time goes by and events happen to put Iris in severe jeopardy, Dex finds himself wanting her for his own and will do anything to protect her.

There is a happy ending after a lot of lies and misunderstandings and being threatened by a Croatian mob and the epilogue is wonderful. The author really tied up everything perfectly.

I had the audio version  and the narrator, Callie Dalton, did a fantastic job portraying the dry sense of humor of Iris which made the book a gem to listen to. If you like motorcycle club and romance – you need to give this one a try.

Death comes in Armani. Salvation comes in leather.

Principessa to the Mancuso crime family, Alexandra knows a thing or two about living outside the bounds of the law. Suffocated by the future her father has laid out for her, she makes a choice she can’t take back, changing the entire trajectory of her life.

Thrust into the dark and dangerous world of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club for her own protection, Alex finds herself faced with the last thing she needs right now: the man of her dreams. He’s sex in leather, the devil incarnate, and one hell of a kisser. But he’s also off-limits. Ryan Stone can be her friend, but he’s forbidden to be her lover.

Third-generation Forsaken, Ryan knows nothing other than life on two wheels, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He enjoys the many privileges that come with the patch, and the only laws he recognizes are the ones set-forth by his club. That is, until who he wants more than anything isn’t allowed on the back of his bike —or in his bed. Balancing his desire for her body, and need to keep her safe, Ryan tries to keep Alex at a distance. Finally having made a choice for herself, she’s done hearing the word “no” and will push boundaries even Ryan himself doesn’t dare cross.

Love is never more tempting than when it’s forbidden.

Review –

I’m a sucker for a good motorcycle club erotic romance so when this one was offered free I couldn’t resist!

This story is basically Motorcycle Club meets the  Mafia.  It’s dark and edgy and I totally loved it.

Alex is the mafia princess with a twin brother and she trusted the wrong person and ends up being rescued from the clutches of the Mafia boys that wants her dead. She is taken away by a motorcycle gang cross-country to California to be kept safe by them and her Aunt, who is the wife of the President of the club. In reality, the Aunt is really  her mother. (long story)

Ryan, the man she becomes attracted to could sometimes  be a decent guy or a real a**hole and since he was trying to get Alex to hate him he treated her horribly, physically and mentally, and needed an a** kicking.

Their relationship finally becomes as important to Ryan as it is to Alex and  when Alex’s father sends henchman to California to kill her and those who stole her away, Ryan finally acts like a man and helps his club brothers take care of business.

The story ends with a lot left to the imagination but I’m sure it will be covered in the second book in the series, Thrash. Although it also is a standalone book about another couple, I’m fairly certain it will tie up the ends from the first book..

I loved the book because for an erotic romance it had it all. Sex, dirty talk, more sex, romance and of course handsome sexy guys on motorcycles.

Hawk’s Property (Insurgents MC #1) by Chiah Wilder

Book Description:

Published: October 26, 2015

From the first time Hawk saw her, he knew he wanted to do dirty things to her in his bed.

Hawk, the muscled, tatted, badass Vice President of the Insurgents Motorcycle Club, sees women as bed warmers, nothing more. He never stays with the same woman, and although there are plenty of women who want to be his old lady, he wants none of that.

He doesn’t date.
He doesn’t let chicks ride on the back of his bike.
He doesn’t fall in love.

And that suits him just fine until he meets her whose eyes light a fire in him. Problem is she’s not so easy to get into his bed. Hawk wants her. And when Hawk wants something he takes it.

Cara Minelli doesn’t want to go to the biker bar, but her friend talks her into it. Swearing off men since she caught her fiancé cheating on her right before her wedding, she has buried herself in her career not wanting a man in her life. Until she sees him. He is sexy, rough, crude, and oh so very wrong for her. So why can’t she stop thinking of all the nasty things he’ll do to her if she relents and lets him in her bed?

Then a vicious killer who has been strangling women in the area focuses on Cara. Police think bikers are involved. Can Cara set aside her trust issues and let Hawk into her life?

Hawk sees it as his job to protect what is his…and Cara is very much his even if she doesn’t know it yet. Cara keeps her heart guarded, but when danger comes calling, their lives collide. Hawk will stop at nothing to keep Cara safe and make her “Property of Hawk”.

The Insurgents MC series are standalone romance novels. Hawk’s Property is Book One in the series. This book contains violence, strong language, and steamy sexual scenes. HEA. No cliffhangers. The book is intended for readers over the age of 18.

Review –

I’ve become a big fan of erotic romances involving motorcycle clubs and this is one of the best I’ve read. It is a bit predictable at times but that can be overlooked  because of the steamy sexual tension between Hawk and Cara. They come from difference worlds and she is a lawyer but love conquers all and in the end they have their HEA.

Great read.  Adult with explicit sex
