The Boy and His Ribbon (The Ribbon Duet #1) by Pepper Winters

Book Description:

Published: April 1, 2018

Format: E-Book/OverDrive

What do you do when you meet your soul mate? No wait…that’s too easy. What do you do when you meet your soul mate and have to spend a lifetime loving him in secret?
I’ll tell you what you do.
You lie.”

REN

Ren was eight when he learned that love doesn’t exist–that the one person who was supposed to adore him only cared how much he was worth.
His mother sold him and for two years, he lived in terror.
But then…he ran.
He thought he’d run on his own. Turned out, he took something of theirs by accident and it became the one thing he never wanted and the only thing he ever needed.

DELLA

I was young when I fell in love with him, when he switched from my world to my everything.
My parents bought him for cheap labour, just like they had with many other kids, and he had the scars to prove it.
At the start, he hated me, and I could understand why.
For years he was my worst enemy, fiercest protector, and dearest friend.
But by the end…he loved me.
The only problem was, he loved me in an entirely different way to the way I loved him.
And slowly, my secret drove us apart.

A True Coming Of Age Story.

Review –

This is the story of Ren and Della through the span of ten years. How they met, what they faced, how they protected each other. Every low and every up. Every hope and every despair. Every moment of innocent joy and every lust filled thoughts.

Told in dual POV with Della writing her story for a school assignment it had an enthralling quality.

But, you have to go into this story with an open mind. You have to believe in something that’s hardly believable. Don’t shy away. Don’t be picky and think it’s just impossible. Just go with the flow and let the story lull you into its depth.

The reader witnesses  Ren going from a young boy to a man and Della from baby to young woman. All this through incredibly harsh circumstances. It’s about taboo feelings and angst that sometimes has no place to go.

It ends on a cliffhanger or rather an open ending or an ending that you want to change and I can’t wait for the sequel.

*This boxed set includes Teach Me, Love Me and Catch Mefrom the Brie’s Submission Series.

Review –

This set of three books in the Brie’s Submission series was free, but I knew shortly into the first book that I would definitely  be buying the others.

I only know what I know from reading about the BDSM life style but it fascinates me and I find that books involving D/s storylines are my favorite kind of erotic/contemporary romances.

That’s why I love this series. These three books take Brie through her 6 week training at a famous school for submissives. Six weeks doesn’t sound very long for all the instruction involved BUT the class hours were long and the practice sessions demanding. Without knowing any better the depiction seems very believable.

Brie is a young woman who feels like she’s missing something from her life but can’t pinpoint what exactly until a man comes in the tobacco shop and leaves a card to a Submissive Training Center for her. Her curiosity piqued, she enrolls in the course, unwilling to fail since she feels it to be her calling, needing to learn things she never expected to not know. With each new week, Brie and the other subs are put through various scenes to push their limits and dedication, to see who will graduate at the top of their class.

Brie goes through so many trials, even faces her deepest fears and prejudice, in ways she never saw coming. So many themes are discussed throughout this box set- menage, lesbianism, anal, DP, submission, and much more, putting into words some of the many aspects of what a D/s relationship is. I did wonder if these types of schools exist since they sound intriguing, and yet as much as Brie grew with all the teachings, I can only imagine the heartbreak at having to choose between her suitors to be the one to collar her.

There is jus t so much in thees books the it would be impossible to relate it all, just know that at graduation Brie chooses to be collared and the Master she picks turn her down – AT FIRST.

I’ve already started reading books four through six of this series and can’t wait to find out what happens between Brie and her Master.

Arrogant, brooding, domineering, possessive, dangerously handsome, and a playboy. These are all the characteristics on Rebecca Gellar’s Run-Like-Hell list for men, but she’s about to meet a man who’s the epitome of these and more…

This is her big chance. If she can just get through these six months without strangling Nicholas with his Armani tie, she’ll be okay—easier said than done. Nicholas is the last person Rebecca thought she’d find herself pining for, especially when he hits every category on her list.

Review –

Vanessa Booke has done it again , Bound To You Volume  3 takes us in a roller coaster ride of lust, steaming sex, jealously, angst, romance , humor … you get the picture.

Nicholas finally realizes that he is head over hills in love with Rebecca , but he is still engaged to Alison and ending that engagement will cost him his inheritance, can he give up everything that he has worked so hard for in order to have the woman he loves ?

Miles is back and he is trying insistently to win Rebecca back , stalking her, texting , calling her, even proposing to her again and this has Nicholas dying of jealousy feeling insecure about Rebecca’s feelings for him .

Rebecca is trying to survive the overwhelming feelings she has for Nicholas, she can’t afford to lose her job, her parents are about to lose their house and she is trying to help them , Alison is hell bent on keeping them apart and threatens to have Rebecca fired if she doesn’t stays away from Nicholas….

With fierce and loyal friends like Carol and Tristan pushing them in the right direction , not everyone is against their relationship . We get to experience the deep , caring , loving and protective side of Nicholas , it makes it almost impossible for Rebecca to stay away from him .

We discover that our beloved Nicholas has many hidden talents ( other than being a Greek god and great in the sack) can you picture him wearing and apron , baking cookies, no less. To bad that happens at a family dinner so no hanky panky was possible  between Nicholas and Rebecca ,or was it?

Sadly, Nicholas Father finds out that something is going on with this two pulls Nicholas to his office and confronts him about it and gives him an ultimatum . Rebecca sort of overhears and flees the scene…

I won’t give the ending away but the author does not disappoint. Nicholas and Rebecca have come a long way in learning about themselves and each other and deserve the best.

Fantastic series. I loved it!

Back Roads by Tawni O’Dell

Book Description

January 1, 2001
“One day you’re that guy who’s happy he managed to survive high school and get that almighty piece of paper, and you’re thinking you might try to get a job at Redi-Mix concrete where your dad’s worked since the beginning of time. And at least you’ve got a family you can stand even if they are all sisters.

One day you’re that guy, and the next day you’re assigned to a social worker and a therapist and given the choice of either being a LEGAL ADULT with three DEPENDENTS or an ORPHAN with NOBODY.” –From Back Roads

Harley Altmyer should be in college drinking Rolling Rock and chasing girls. He should be freed from his closed-minded, stricken coal town, with its lack of jobs and no sense of humor. Instead, he’s constantly reminded of just how messed up his life is.

With his mother in jail for killing his abusive father, Harley is an orphan with the responsibilities of an adult and the fiery, aggressive libido of a teenager. Just nineteen years old, he’s marooned in the Pennsylvania backwoods caring for his three younger sisters, whose feelings about him range from stifling dependence to loathing. And once he develops an obsession with the sexy, melancholic mother of two living down the road, those Victoria’s Secret catalogs just won’t do the trick anymore. He wants Callie Mercer so badly he fears he will explode. But it’s the family secrets, the lies, and the unspoken truths that light the fuse and erupt into a series of staggering surprises, leaving what’s left of his family in tatters. Through every ordeal, the unforgettable Harley could never know that his endearing humor, his love for his sisters, and his bumbling heroics would redeem them all.

Review –
I only read this book because I heard it was being made into a motion picture and I was curious and plus it had been recommended by Oprah, once a upon a time. That said, the story held my interest and I couldn’t help feeling sorry for Harley and all of his predicaments. The story has violence yet it’s touching and darkly funny. I plan to see the movie and see how well they adapt it to the big screen.
