Pitch Dark by A.M. Wilson and Alex Grayson

Book Description:

Published: September 15, 2017

Format: E-Book

One girl disappeared. After fifteen years, her cold lifeless body was found on the damp forest floor. Not an inch of her was unmarked by the horrors she endured. Alone, malnourished, abused in horrific ways; this was how she died.

One girl was found walking the streets, covered in dirt and scars. She had no memory of who she was, where she came from, or what happened to her. Even though the marks on her body attested to years of heinous abuse, her strength shone through at every turn.

Revenge and justice were sworn.

Years of searching brought up nothing but dead ends. Detective Niko James was too late to save his childhood friend, but he vows not to let down another.

The clock is ticking and the trail is pitch dark.

Review –
PitchDark is a very dark and gritty thriller, one that was difficult to read at times.  It’s intense, heartbreaking, edgy, and raw.  So be aware, it’s very explicit with the details of  child abuse.
It’s been fifteen years since Niko’s childhood friend, Aislin, has disappeared and in his heart he knew she was abducted while his parents and the police just thought she ran off.
A body is found in the woods covered with scars, old and new, and open sores, cuts, scrapes, and old and new bruises. She is identified as Aislin. Niko is heart-broken and angry because he hadn’t rescued her from such torture.
Later a girl is found walking the streets, barefoot and with similar markings on her body as the dead girl and she has no memory of who she is or her previous life.
While Niko helps to find out who this girl is and who did this to her (because he’s positive the same individual killed Aislin)he begins to get close to her and develops feelings he knows he shouldn’t.
I’m not going much further with the story because it would be too easy to include spoilers. Just surface it to say that it’s well written with engaging characters. Sometimes it seems draw out and repetitive but even that didn’t take away from the storyline although because of that I only gave it four and a half stars.
Excellent who-dun-it but there are many triggers and it’s not a romance so if you are easily disgusted and traumatized; stay away from this book!

Beneath This Man (The Complete Set) by Lucia Jordan

Book Description:

Published: June 12, 2017

Format: E-Book

Alexa really, really needs a big break.

She’s been working at the newspaper for five years and she hasn’t had a single byline. She’s sick and tired of doing research and getting coffee. So when Alexa finds out that one of her friends is attending a sex party, she begs to tag along. Alexa has never done anything wild, but for the sake of getting a good story she’ll do whatever it takes, and writing about the underground group sex scene would definitely get attention. The only thing Alexa doesn’t expect is that she’ll meet a man at the party, a man who doesn’t seem like he belongs there either.

Book One was free and, of course, the end was a semi cliffhanger so I HAD to buy the complete set, which consists of four mini books. I say “mini” because they are less than thirty pages each.

Anyway, the story line is not new but Alexa and Luke had a great chemistry so I wanted to see where the author would take them. Where she took them was to a predictable HEA by ways of a pretty boring relationship . I was pretty disappointed because usually books by Lucia Jordan are steamier than this one.

Oh well, live and learn. I’m sure it won’t be the last time I’m pulled into a storyline and shell out money for the other books.

Releasing control is relief…

I was warned about men like Brett Maclean.

He was dark and thrilling, intense and controlling. And he captivated me from the very start. He unleashed something inside of me like no other. His bad rep and troubled past drew me to him like gasoline feeding a flame.

With just one taste, I felt the danger in him, the uncontrollable power that left me breathless. The passion consumed me. Fast and hard.

Temptation couldn’t guard my heart. I should have known a man of such raw and wild desires came with competition.

Review –

In this story we have a tall, very handsome alpha bar/club owner that doesn’t do relationships.. and then we have our heroine who is crushing on this alpha…he makes a proposition one night is all…

What I didn’t like is, he was too cocky and  I know these alpha’s mostly are but he was just too friggin much.  Going on and on about how she will forget any other man she’s ever been with if she just gives him this one night…blah, blah, blah. She went from this strong woman to this half nag, half bore, total doormat.

You know the story from here – one night turns into many and they can’t get enough of each other. sex is like their oxygen. They have to have it!  Brett has secrets and dark demons. Painful secrets that are the cause of his behavior. He doesn’t know what love is, never felt it for a woman, until Evvie.
Brett is an alpha male to the core. He domineering, rough in the bedroom and completely sexy, everything you want in your alpha.

Then, surprise, his ex-girlfriends tries and succeeds getting him back only to have him dump her again and go back to Evvie but she has trust issues, especially with a man like Brett who’s had a string of women all his life.

They love each other, but with so many things coming between them, is that love enough?
I won’t tell you how the book ends but I WON’T  be reading the other books in the series because it was just okay and not one that I HAVE to follow up on.

Five-star-feedback-on-oDesk

Very nice standalone story about a man who couldn’t get a woman from a one night stand out of his mind and so he manipulates things in order to get her to his “cabin”, really a mansion, in hopes of rekindling the heat and passion they felt that one night years ago. Is he successful? I guess, if you’re really interested, you’ll have to read the book for yourself. It’s short and sweet but still very steamy with explicit sex scenes.  A very nice way to spend a few hours.

Thrash (Bayonet Scars #2) by J.C. Emery

Book Description:

Published: January 9, 2014

Loneliness suffocates the heart. Acceptance breaks down walls.

As a Lost Girl to the Forsaken Motorcycle Club, Nicole Whelan knows how to party. She’s not cut-out for relationships and her life is way too complicated for anything more than casual encounters. But one night when she falls into Duke’s bed at the clubhouse, he sees something in her that he can’t let go of—no matter how many times she tries to run.

Having been left to raise her teenage brother, Jeremy, she’s already got her hands full and isn’t looking for anymore complications. But Duke’s just watched his best friend fall for the only girl he couldn’t have, and then almost lose her so shortly after, shaking him to his core. Faced with his own loneliness, he’s more determined than ever to break down Nic’s walls and show her that he can be good for her; but he’s got a bad track record and she’s got a bad temper. Changing his ways isn’t easy when he’s not sure what he’s even changing for.

The violence and turmoil are at an all-time high, and Forsaken is in a vulnerable place when a twist of fate breathes new life into the club. It’s a much-needed beacon of hope for the embattled biker family, even if everyone’s not exactly on board. With Duke and Nic’s relationship already on shaky ground, and something even more important at stake, the Forsaken Motorcycle Club will fight like hell to keep their family together and whole.

Love is never more precious than when it’s new.

Review –

Each one of the books in the Bayonet Scars series could be considered a stand alone but they also finish off the previous one, if that makes sense.

In Thrash Ryan and Alex from Ride  get their HEA but the book primarily deals with Nicole (Nic) and Duke.

Nic and Duke have a past together and he hurt her badly so that’s why she has kept her distance but now she can’t and she gives in to her need and desire for him.  Likewise, Duke knows he has hurt Nic and knows he probably will again but that doesn’t stop him from claiming her as his own, no matter the cost.

A great steamy read with sizzling sex scenes.

Summer People (Ray Elkins Mysteries #1) by Aaron Stander

Product Description:

Published July 1, 2009

It’s summertime and a mob-style murder followed by a string of unexplained deaths suggests someone is giving new meaning to the phrase “tourist season.”

It is late June in Michigan’s gold coast vacation area. The summer residents are settling in for the season and the tourists are beginning to flood the highways, beaches, and resorts. But the idyllic vision of a summer by the lake is suddenly shattered by a gangland-style slaying of one of the old money cottagers. This murder is quickly followed by the deaths of three more summer residents, each taking place under suspicious circumstances.

At times hindered by local politics and the proverbial tension between the summer people and the natives, Sheriff Ray Elkins searches for the possible links between the four victims. As he probes into their tangled lives and dark histories, he finds both the motive and the possible murderer.

This was another free book offered by Kindle and although the beginning was very promising with lots of potential and the middle had some interesting parts and the ending just leaves you flat. I’m glad I didn’t pay to read it.
