One Night. That’s all it was supposed to be.

Reeling from the sudden loss of her sister, Haddie Montgomery has sworn off relationships. All she wanted from Beckett Daniels was a sexy distraction to help her escape her pain for just a little while….There weren’t supposed to be any strings attached—so why can’t she shake the memory of that unforgettable night from her thoughts? Or the taste of his kiss from her lips?

No matter how hard Haddie tries to forget about him, Becks relentlessly tries to prove that she should start living for today. But she is determined to avoid romantic commitment, and she can always use her ex-boyfriend’s reappearance to help snuff out the slow burn within her that Becks has sparked….

Or will fate force her to realize that this kind of connection doesn’t come along very often and a chance at love is worth the risk?

Review –

Slow Burn can be read as a stand-alone; you do not have had to read the Driven Trilogy to understand it or enjoy it. (Although, I must admit, it’ll be even that more special if you do!)

The start of this book is super sexy with Hattie and Becks giving into their explosive chemistry on the night of Rylee and Colton’s wedding. Hattie makes sure Becks realizes that this is a one-time encounter and that they need to keep things simple after the night. (No Strings) What was a little bit irritating was that she then proceeded to tell and think the same thing for the next 5-6 chapters and pretty much through the first half of the book. It was kind of like, okay we get it you want things to stay simple, let’s not repeat it anymore; really and truly lets just not and please stop pushing Beck’s away.

Hattie is dealing with a lot and this might be some of her reason for not letting Becks in. She recently lost her sister from Breast Cancer and is feeling the loss from Rylee not being in her life full time now that she is married and living somewhere else; so pushing Becks away seems like the easiest thing for her to do, to protect herself from any further heartbreak. You can guess where this is going, and you would be right. It’s predictable but it is sooo good and you will be blown away.

Thankfully Becks isn’t willing to go away that easily; especially when he realizes that Haddie has the voodoo pussy, just like Rylee had the same thing to Colton.

Loved the book but gave it a three out of five stars because of all the unnecessary repetition.  Remember to have plenty of tissues handy when you get to the last third of the book.

Raced (Driven #3.5) by K. Bromberg

Book Description:

Published: August 11, 2015

This novella is a compilation of reader requested scenes from the series retold through the eyes of Colton Donavan.
Colton Donavan lived life in the fast lane, but it took Rylee Thomas to teach him what racing was all about.

Arrogant
Rogue
Broken
Conceited
Dirty-Talking
Rebel
Egomaniacal
Voodooed
Bent
Reckless

You think you know me?

Review –

Raced is not a complete re-write of the Driven series but a companion explores pivotal scenes as well as some new ones written in Colton Donavan’s point of view that were not previously published in Driven, Fueled, and Crashed. You hear  his thoughts, experience his inner-turmoil, and laugh with him on his journey as he overcomes his demons and accepts what it means to love.
This novella is for the devoted readers of the Driven series.

It is recommended that this companion be read after Driven, Fueled, and Crashed.

Since Colton is one of my favorite book boyfriends, I loved this re-write from his point of view. Made me love him even more.

Review –

I thought I had posted a review for this book, but I guess it was lost among the many other books in my memory so here it is-

ACED is the fourth installment in K. Bromberg’s contemporary adult DRIVEN erotic romance series focusing on Colton Donavan, and Riley Thomas Donavan. ACED covers several months in the life between the end of CRASHED (Driven #3) and the epilogue that advanced the series approximately ten years. I do not recommend reading ACED as a stand alone-too much history, backstory and personal information is missing.

Told from dual first person points of view (Colton and Rylee) ACED focuses on the relationship between our leading couple as well as their struggle to deal with past transgressions, and future hopes. This ‘imperfectly perfect’ couple must face several demons: past and present; personal and public; old and new; dangerous and dark. We get up close and personal as one family struggles to survive as their world begins to crumble against the battering paparazzi, and those seeking revenge from a time long ago.

Colton, one of my favorite book boyfriends, makes mistakes, he has flaws, he has more skeletons than a grave yard in his closet but nothing will ever stop him from protecting his family and the love of his life. This book will take you on a roller coaster of emotions. You will feel heartbroken, you will feel angry, you will feel happiness, you will feel it all throughout this read. From the moments with Xander, through the awful exposure of privacy that these two feel, Aced will make you fall in love with their love all over again.

This was a wonderful look at marriage and all it takes to keep your happily ever after!

It is a great conclusion to a rocky but beautiful love story.   Fantastic series !!!!!

Crashed (Driven #3) by K. Bromberg

Book Description:

Published: March 4, 2014

Format: offers-headphones-jpgmaxheight138maxwidth207

When life crashes down around us, how hard are we willing to fight for the one thing we can’t live without, each other?

Life is full of moments.
Big moments.
Little moments.
And none of them are inconsequential.
Every single moment prepares you for that one instance that defines your life. You must overcome all your fears, confront the demons that chase you, and cleanse the poison that clings to your soul or you risk the chance of losing everything.

Mine started the minute Rylee fell out of that damn storage closet. She made me feel. Made me whole when all I thought I could ever be was incomplete. Became the lifeline I never knew I needed. Hell yes, she’s worth the fight…but how do you fight for someone you know you don’t deserve?

Love is full of ups and downs.
Heart stopping highs.
Soul shattering lows.
And none of them are insignificant.
Love is a racecourse of unexpected twists and turns that must be negotiated. You have to break down walls, learn to trust, and heal from your past in order to win. But sometimes it’s the expected that’s the hardest to hold on to.

Colton has healed and completed me, stolen my heart, and made me realize our love’s not predictable nor perfect—it’s bent. And bent’s okay. But when outside factors put our relationship to the test, what lengths will I have to go to prove to him that he’s worth the fight?

Whoever said love is patient and love is kind, never met the two of us. We know our love is worth it—have acknowledged that we were meant to be—but when our pasts crash into our future, will the repercussions make us stronger or break us apart?

Review –

This installment of the Driven series didn’t have as many steamy sex scenes as the first two, but the ones it did have burned up my iPad.

Colton was in a crash at the end of Fueled and the first part of this book evolves around his touch and go recovery and the aftermath of his fears and self-doubts.

Rylee was by his side the whole time but still Colton wasn’t sure of her affection (he can’t bring himself to believe she could ever love him since he can’t even say the word)

On top of this, Tawny, his one time sweetheart and employee, claims that he is the father of her child and he flatly denies this but Rylee doesn’t believe him and they split. During this time they are both miserable and stubbornly cease all contact. Colton has a paternity test done, gets the results and calls Rylee only to hear her scream while on the phone and to discover that Zander’s father(his killed his wife and Zander’s mother and Zander saw it all)is at the safe house making threats. He doesn’t get there in time and Rylee is beaten but in the end Zander’s father is killed.

Rylee refuses to go to the hospital later that night miscarries a baby she never thought she would be able to have. Colton doesn’t know how this makes him feel. He never wanted children because of his past and now Rylee almost dies because of him.

Well, to make a long story short:

  • Rylee heals but is told she will probably never be able to conceive again.
  • Colton realizes how much he needs her in his life.
  • He finds out his birth mother is dead and this throws him for a loop.
  • He confesses his secret to Rylee and they have a turning point in their rocky relationship.
  • Colton can final tell Rylee in the right words that he LOVES her.
  • He proposes.
  • Ten years later, we discover that they had adopted Zander(who now races) and had a little boy of their own.
  • They finally have their HEA.

Fantastic read/listen !!!!!

Fueled (Driven #2) by K. Bromberg

Book Description:

Published: September 5, 2013

What happens when the one person you never expected suddenly happens to be the one you’ll fight the hardest to keep?

Colton stole my heart. He wasn’t supposed to, and I sure as hell didn’t want him to, but he crashed into my life, ignited feelings within me that I thought had died forever, and fueled a passion that I never knew could exist.

Rylee fell out of that damn storage closet and into my life. Now I don’t think I’ll ever be the same. She’s seen glimpses of the darkness within me, and yet she’s still here. Still fighting for me. She is without a doubt the saint, and I am most definitely the sinner.

How is it the one thing neither of us wanted—neither of us anticipated that fateful night—has us fighting so hard to keep?

He steals my breath, stops my heart, and brings me back to life again all in a split second of time. But how can I love a man who won’t let me in? Who continually pushes me away to prevent me from seeing the damaged secrets in his past? My heart has fallen, but patience and forgiveness can only go so far.

How can I desire a woman who unnerves me, defies me, and forces me to see that in the deep, black abyss of my soul there’s someone worthy of her love? A place and person I swore I’d never be again. Her selfless heart and sexy body deserve so much more than I’ll ever be capable of giving her. I know I can’t be what she needs, so why can’t I just let her go?

We are driven by need and fueled with desire, but is that enough for us to crash into love?

Review –

After book one, Driven, I had hopped that Rylee would have more of a back bone in this installment of the series, but alas, it was not to be.

She knows that Colton had something horrible happen to him as a child, more than being mistreated by his mother, but he won’t talk about it.If she pushes him too hard he just becomes sullen  and treats her like dirt.

We, as readers, know that Colton was sexually abused by his mother’s “boyfriend” and was forced to say the words I LOVE YOU to his abuser during the act. That is why when Rylee says those words to him he bolts. It’s a trigger for him and takes him back to that horrible time in his life. He sincerely believes that Rylee will want no part of him because of what he did as a child, even though he was forced into it by the one person who was supposed to love him most of all, his mother.  He wants and needs Rylee desperately but does things to sabotage their relationship.

Rylee finds Colton at his Palisades house (his infamous f*ck pad) with Tawny in a very compromising situation but never allows him to explain. Things go from back to worse and over the course of three weeks their relationship has been torn to shreds by both of them.  Finally “Becks” tells them to figure it out or else because Colton has a race the next day and needs his head on straight. So, Colton convinces Rylee to listen and she finds out he did not sleep with Tawny but that she kissed him and he kissed her back and he gets very emotional with Rylee and tells her that he wants to try to continue their relationship and maybe make it into more. He even goes so far as to tell her “I race you” meaning that he loved her.

The next day the race starts off great but a crash occurs and there is so much smoke on the track that Colton is driving blind and his spotter can’t tell him what to do, so he ends up cartwheeling down the track and hitting a barricade and having his car disintegrate around him. He arrests twice on the way to the hospital and that’s THE END. (of course it is)

I have now started book three in the series, Crashed, and will report on it later.

Great series with plenty of action, drama, love, confrontations  and an abundance of hot sex scenes. I highly recommend this series if you enjoy contemporary/erotic romances.

Driven (Driven #1) by K. Bromberg

Book Description:

Published: January 30, 2014

Rylee Thomas is used to being in control. But she’s about to meet the one man that just might make her enjoy losing it…

I am the exception to the rule.

In a world full of willing women, I’m a challenge to the roguish and achingly handsome Colton Donavan. A man used to getting exactly what he wants in all aspects of life. He’s the reckless bad boy constantly skating that razor thin edge toward out of control, on and off of the track.

Colton crashes into my life like a tornado: sapping my control, testing my vulnerabilities beyond their limits, and unintentionally penetrating the protective wall around my healing heart. Tearing apart the world I rebuilt so carefully with structure, predictability, and discipline.

I can’t give him what he wants and he can’t give me what I need. But after a glimpse beneath his refined exterior into the dark secrets of his damaged soul, can I bring myself to walk away?

Our sexual chemistry is undeniable. Our individual need for complete control is irrefutable. But when our worlds collide, is the chemistry enough to bring us together or will our untold secrets and battle of wills force us apart?

Review –

I would have rated this book five stars except for the fact that I felt like strangling Rylee Thomas most of the time.

She seems like a smart woman, although a bit naive, but when it came to Colton Donavan, she was a whiny girl who says NO one minute and turns around and says YES to the same question or advances. She knows he only wants to use her for sex and will not give her the HEA she wants or even the love she wants, but does this stop her  from letting him f*ck her any time he wants. NO!  I wanted to scream!!!!!  In her mind she says all the right things but doesn’t act on them.

Colton is damaged goods, he says so  himself. He is rich, handsome beyond description and good in bed so he knows he cans get any woman any time but now he has his eye on Rylee and will not give her up until he does. He has a Dr. Jekyll/Mr/ Hyde personality and she finally sees it at the end, but I know she’ll  go crawling back to him in the next book .

The sexual chemistry between Colton and Rylee made my Kindle smoke and the sex scenes made it almost too hot to handle but I will continue with this series when I can find the other books and I just pray that Rylee isn’t so pathetic as she was in this one.
