Zoo 2 (Zoo #1.5) by James Patterson and Max DiLallo

Book Description:

Published: June 7, 2016

Format: Audio/OverDrive

Will the last humans on Earth please turn out the lights?

James Patterson’s ZOO was just the beginning. The planet is still under violent siege by ferocious animals. Humans are their desperate prey. Except some humans are evolving, mutating into a savage species that could save civilization-or end it.

Review –

Jackson Oz (the hero in Book One) starts in Arctic area (where he thought his family would be safer) with wife Chloe and son Eli then is called back into service to continue helping to find an end to murdering wild animals.

Now this book is only 140 pages long but Oz travels to the following places and performs amazing feats in each one:

Paris drops off Chloe and Eli

London for a meeting

Bali to find why animal attacks are not happening

Johannesburg to find feral human.

Idaho to drop off feral human, Helen. Oz and gang are attacked by mustangs but one look at Helen and they flee.

Japan to find more feral humans.

Plane. Japanese scientist turns feral. Why? No clue. Does it happen due to their body shifting or can it be transmitted from human to human. No idea.

Middle of Pacific.

Back to Idaho where Chloe and Eli show up next. Oh plus Helen escapes. Of course Chloe and Eli have to be in trouble again.

Pearl Harbor for a phone call and trip to airport.

Salt Lake City Jackson Chloe, Eli together again.

Roadtrip to Vegas. Of course where else would you go to gamble on vaccine for feral humans.

Las Vegas of course where you find cure and city falls.

Deep underground with President.

Seriously a bad novel and highly unbearable . At one airport (I forget which one) Oz had to pay over $29,000 for a ticket.  Also an obssession to hit as many places as possible, maybe they threw darts at a global map to decided where to next send Oz and gang. I also have no clue what turns folks feral. It was never hinted at and I doubt there will be a Zoo 3 so we may never know.

Don’t waste your time with this one!

Little Black Dress by James Patterson and Emily Raymond

Book Description:

Published: July 28, 2016

Format: Audio/OverDrive

Can a little black dress change everything in her life?

Magazine editor Jane Avery spends her nights alone with Netflix and Oreos – until the Dress turns her loose. Suddenly she’s surrendering to dark desires, and New York City has become her erotic playground. But what began as a fantasy will go too far… and her next conquest could be her last.

Review –

In this BookShot, James Patterson ventures outside the genres for which he is known, waltzing onto a more romance/erotica pathway.

Jane Avery is living the typical a thirty-five  year old divorcée life, at least in her eyes; a slave to her work whose social time is filled with cookies and binge watching television. When she purchases a dress, black and slinky in nature, she finds herself filled with new confidence. While the dress does not possess any magical power, per se, Avery is pulled into a level of confidence she lacked up to that point. This confidence is primarily that of no strings attached sexual encounters with men, most of whom she has never met and all of whom will not get a second chance to unzip her.  Avery’s confidence reaches a climactic point when she visits a sex club and finds herself drawn to a man whose intrigue matches his prowess. However, after taking him back to her apartment, which she has vowed to never do, she finds that she may have bitten off more than she can chew.

When she doesn’t show up for work the next day, her sister goes to her apartment and with the help of the landlord, gains entry and finds Jane, naked and handcuffed to a radiator.

Jane rethinks the her behavior and decides that from now on she will be more careful.   END.

It was a pleasant read but I thought the ending could have been better.

Mattie throws herself headfirst into finding Chris, following leads to the three people Chris was investigating when he vanished: a billionaire suspected of cheating on his wife, a soccer star accused of throwing games, and a nightclub owner with ties to the Russian mob. Any one of them would surely want Chris gone-and one of them is evil enough to want him dead.

AND SHE’S AFTER MORE THAN THE TRUTH

Mattie’s chase takes her into Berlin’s most guarded, hidden, and treacherous places, revealing secrets from Chris’s past that she’d never dreamed of in the time they were lovers. On the brink of a terrifying discovery, Mattie holds on to her belief in Chris-in the face of a horror that could force all of Europe to the edge of destruction and chaos.

James Patterson has taken the European thriller to a masterful new level with Private Berlin, an adrenaline-charged, spectacularly violent and sexy novel with unforgettable characters of dark and complex depths. Private Berlin proves why Patterson is truly the world’s #1 bestselling author.

Review –

Private operative Chris Schneider comes to Berlin on personal leave to confront a demon from his past, only to become its latest victim. When Schneider fails to show up for work and no one can reach him, his ex-fiancée, Mattie Engel, who’s still a Private colleague, agrees that his tracking device should be activated. This leads to a grisly discovery in an abandoned slaughterhouse in a wooded area outside Berlin. The mask-wearing psycho behind Schneider’s death, who calls himself the Invisible Man and revels in the pain others, shares a familiar origin story in which a warped relationship with his mother is the cause of his demented actions.

This book is on the dark and edgy side,  full of drama, suspense, and page turning action. Another win for James Patterson and Mark T. Sullivan.

Review –

Another new foreign office, another series of local challenges to go along with an assortment of story lines.

It is a fast paced thriller complete with tension, mayhem, murder and terrorism and will keep you turning pages or listening for many hours at a time.  I believe this is one of James Patterson’s better books in the series but if I had been reading instead of listening I would have stumbled over most of the French names of people, places and things. Thank heavens for the audio book.!

The next in the series is Private Rio which come out later this month.

Review –

This is the first book in the Private series by James Patterson and others that didn’t thrill me, although the storyline was action packed, fast paced  and interesting.

Maybe it was the locale or the narrator and  although I listened to it in its entirety  I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

Sometimes that happens but if it ever happens to you, don’t despair. Just pick up another book: audio, physical or digital and start reading or listening again. Remember that in every book lies an adventure!

Review –

This subject of this book is primarily Jack Morgan. Someone is framing him for the murder of his ex-girlfriend and he doesn’t know why or who but he has a pretty good idea, his twin brother Tommy.

As usual, the story is a combination of multiple stories going on at the same time and all being solved by Private, a private investigating firm that can get away with things others can’t.

It fast paced, action-packed but sometimes frustrating.  All in all, a great read or listen.

Private London (Private #2) by James Patterson and Mark Pearson

Book Description:

Published: 2011

SOMETIMES WHEN THE NIGHTMARE ENDS – THE TERROR IS ONLY JUST BEGINNING

For Hannah Shapiro, a beautiful young American student, this particular nightmare began eight years ago in Los Angeles, when Jack Morgan, owner of Private – the world’s most exclusive detective agency – saved her from a horrific death. She has fled her country, but can’t flee her past. The terror has followed her to London, and now it is down to former Royal Military Police Sergeant Dan Carter, head of Private London, to save her all over again.

In central London, young women are being abducted off the street. When the bodies are found, some days later, they have been mutilated in a particularly mysterious way. Dan Carter’s ex-wife, DI Kirsty Webb, is involved in the investigation and it looks likely that the two cases are gruesomely linked.

Dan Carter draws on the whole resources of Private International in a desperate race against the odds. But the clock is ticking… Private may be the largest and most technologically advanced detection agency in the world, but the only thing they don’t have is the one thing they need – time.

Review –

This was the first book in the Private series that I listened to although I had listened to others during the normal routine of my days. This is the second in the series and it takes me longer to finish a book when I listen to it in the car because I don’t go out every day (almost, but not quite).  Because I spent more time with these characters I came to know them more fully and really get a feel for them.  Dan Cater came to be one of my favorites and I hope the author writes more with him in mind.

This story is fast paced, action packed, full of mystery and deception  with a twist or two thrown in for good measure.  A great story and I recommend this series and that’s one thing I never thought would say.

Private Vegas (Private #9) by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro

Book Description:

Published: January 26, 2015

What happens in Vegas…stays Private.

Las Vegas is a city of contradictions: seedy and glamorous, secretive and wild, Vegas attracts people of all kinds–especially those with a secret to hide, or a life to leave behind. It’s the perfect location for Lester Olsen’s lucrative business. He gets to treat gorgeous, young women to five-star restaurants, splashy shows, and limo rides–and then he teaches them how to kill.

Private Jack Morgan spends most of his time in Los Angeles, where his top investigation firm has its headquarters. But a hunt for two criminals leads him to the city of sin–and to a murder ring that is more seductively threatening than anything he’s witnessed before.

Review –

Another pleasant read in the Private series by James Patterson (and others) and this one takes place in the Glitter and Glitz Capital of the World, Las Vegas. As in all of the Private  books, there are several stories going at once; there is murders, mystery, diplomatic immunity, scumbags, friendships, old loves and new chapters to be started and although Jack Morgan is the primary focus of the book there are several things that will affect him for the rest of his life and naturally, the book ends with a cliffhanger.

I guess I will have to hunt down #10!

Review –

Not an awarding winning read by any means but a pleasant book to listen to during a hot Oklahoma Spring day. It has everything a good  crime fiction story should have: murder, kidnapping, mystery, suspense, drama and interesting characters to put all the clues together.

Review –

I never thought I’d read or listen to the Private series by James Patterson and his co-writers, but when I was faced with no audio book while driving all over town doing my errands I was desperate.  I stopped at a local Hastings store and found this audio book on sale for a very good price and so bought it and continued running my errands while listening to the story unfold.

Miracle of miracles, I actually liked it, so, when I got home I looked on Overdrive to see if any were available and found a few and have since listened to three more.  None of them are five stars but they are entertaining.

The premise of the stories are all about the same-some horrible crime occurs and Private is called into action to save the day. Like I said, it makes for an entertaining listen or read.

I recommend the series if you have an afternoon or evening with time  on your hands.
