Stone Reeves was my neighbor, and I’ve hated him since sixth grade.

Gorgeous and charismatic, he became the town’s football god, while I became the town’s invisible girl.
He went to a Division 1 school for football, while my father was fired by his father.
His team won the National Championship, while my mother died the same day.

He was a first round pick for the NFL …
… while I made the worst decision of my life.

Now I’m in Texas trying to pick up the pieces of my life.
But, Stone is here.
Stone is everywhere.

It doesn’t matter that disaster has struck my life again.
It doesn’t matter that he’s the one trying to console me.
It doesn’t matter that he’s the nation’s newest football obsession.

Because for me, he always has been and always will be my enemy.

Review –

“If you’re a fan of Tijan’s books, you will love Dusty and Stone’s romance. They reminded me slightly of Sam and Mason or maybe even Alex and Jesse. There’s this whole I hate you, but I’m going to love you vibe. There’s a strong, broken young woman and a dominate, successful athlete. Tijan excels at writing these types of characters. That makes it sound like it’s the same story all over again, but it’s not. Dusty and Stone have their own unique love story. It’s filled with just the right amount of angst, sweetness, frustration, love, anger, hope, tenderness and a pinch of suspense. Tijan packed so many emotions and actions into Enemies and still I could have read more.

I fell in love with Enemies slowly but completely. I ended up loving Dusty and Stone together. I loved their friends. I didn’t want to leave them when this book was over. I know at this point Enemies is a standalone and it was wrapped up well, but I am still hoping it turns into a series. I wouldn’t complain about a book for any of the supporting characters. Colby and Cammie would be my first pick. I’m just saying…” A Novel Glimpse

Close to Home by Lisa Jackson

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson comes an atmospheric and riveting novel of suspense that uncovers the horrifying secrets buried within a ramshackle house. . .

Vowing to make a fresh start, Sarah McAdams has come home to renovate the old Victorian mansion where she grew up. Her daughters, Jade and Gracie, aren’t impressed by the rundown property on the shores of Oregon’s wild Columbia River. As soon as they pull up the isolated drive, Sarah too is beset by uneasy memories–of her cold, distant mother, of the half-sister who vanished without a trace, and of a long-ago night when Sarah was found on the widow’s walk, feverish and delirious.

Ever since the original mistress of the house plunged to her death almost a century ago, there have been rumors that the place is haunted. As a girl, Sarah sensed a presence there, and soon Gracie claims to see a lady in white running up the stairs. Still, Sarah has little time to dwell on ghost stories, between overseeing construction and dealing with the return of a man from her past.

But there’s a new, more urgent menace in the small town. One by one, teenage girls are disappearing. Frantic for her daughters’ safety, Sarah feels her veneer cracking and the house’s walls closing in on her again. Somewhere deep in her memory is the key to a very real and terrifying danger. And only by confronting her worst fears can she stop the nightmare roaring back to life once more. .

Sarah decides to move back to the family home at Peacock Manor and restore it. So Sarah packs up her daughter Jade and Gracie and moves into the debilitated home uprooting all their lives and creating great teenage anguish for her oldest child Jade. On their first night there Gracie the youngest sees a ghost and becomes fascinated in discovering the family history and helping this ghost to move on. By moving home many things from the past are brought to the front. Sarah’s first and true love Clint is there and that involves many issues that must be dealt with. Jade is convinced she is living in hell and her mother is the cause and the extended family is drama of its own. Then to top it off teenage girls start to go missing and Sarah’s half- brother is a main suspect in the case.

Close to Home is a fast moving mystery with a great background story. The author, one of my new favorites,  is a masterful writer and you think you know who did it but you are wrong and that’s what you get for being a know it all. There is so much involved in the lives of these people that you can’t stop reading. You are drawn into their lives and try so hard to figure out what the next move should be to help them get all the problems taken care of so they can just live their lives.

The characters are far from perfect people, they have all done things wrong and made mistakes but you truly like who they are and are fascinated by their stories. This book is full of suspense and truly chilling at times. The things people do and their sick ways fascinates in a macabre manner and Lisa Jackson has a way of writing it that keeps you wanting more.

Great read.

Broken Knight (All Saint’s High #2) by L.J. Shen

Book Description:

Published: August 2019

Format: Audio/Audible

Not all love stories are written the same way. Ours had torn chapters, missing paragraphs, and a bittersweet ending.

Luna Rexroth is everyone’s favorite wallflower.

Sweet.
Caring.
Charitable.
Quiet.
Fake.
Underneath the meek, tomboy exterior everyone loves (yet pities) is a girl who knows exactly what, and who, she wants—namely, the boy from the treehouse who taught her how to curse in sign language.
Who taught her how to laugh.
To live.
To love.
Knight Cole is everyone’s favorite football hero.
Gorgeous.
Athletic.
Rugged.
Popular.
Liar.

This daredevil hell-raiser could knock you up with his gaze alone, but he only has eyes for the girl across the street: Luna.

But Luna is not who she used to be. She doesn’t need his protection anymore.
When life throws a curveball at All Saints’ golden boy, he’s forced to realize not all knights are heroes.

Sometimes, the greatest love stories flourish in tragedy.

Wow!

What an absolute rollercoaster of a ride! Broken Knight has absolutely wrecked and ruined me for all books for quite some time I’m sure. This book was beyond phenomenal and a favourite book of mine for 2019. L. J. Shen’s writing is always right on point, but she knocked it out of the ball park with this one, I just don’t know if I’m ever going to get over this Broken Knight. I knew this book was going to be great because Shen does not write bad stories, but I was unprepared for how truly captivating this story really was. If there is one book you need to read this year, it is without a doubt BROKEN KNIGHT!

My emotions really went through the wringer with this one; I was moved, I was heartbroken, I cried, I sobbed, I smiled, I laughed and above all else I loved. I was unsure at some points whether my poor heart could take much more, but there was no way I was putting this book down even if my life depended on it. I thrived on the push and pull of the tempestuous friendship and lived vicariously through these characters who became such an important part of me. This story was just so real, I really felt like I was watching everything unfold in front of my very eyes and I was a part of this deep and emotional journey. I’m not sure I can ever get past these characters as I feel like they are now a part of me and our lives will be forever intertwined.

Broken Knight had so many layers to be discovered and the more I pulled these layers back the more I became addicted to everything that’s exposed before me. The author positively broke me with her storytelling which is true perfection, but then she also healed me in the most breathtaking way possible. Broken Knight is a true love story that will stand the test of time as it is positively unforgettable.

I have not gone into details of the story and that is deliberate because this needs to be devoured free from spoilers. If you are yet to read this book, my advice is to try to go in completely blind without knowing all the ins and outs of the story.

Broken Knight is EVERYTHING and more! I was completely enthralled from start to finish and could not get enough. Definitely one of the  best books of 2019 thus far.

Five stars !

The Sisters by Dervla McTiernan

Book Description:

Published: September 5, 2019

Format: Audio/Audible

Two sisters climbing the ranks of Dublin’s criminal justice system. A murder case that could change their lives forever. The Sisters is a gripping new thriller from one of the most exciting voices in crime fiction.

In this prequel to the international bestseller The Ruin, set 10 years prior, bright-eyed Carrie Ryan is at the very start of her career. When she has a hunch about an ongoing murder investigation, she knows it could be her only chance to prove herself and truly break into the “boy’s club” of Dublin’s police force.

Carrie uncovers this make-or-break moment in a case file her sister Aifric, a newly qualified barrister, leaves on their kitchen counter: Robert Collins has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend after a fight in a local pub, and all signs point towards a guilty verdict. But both sisters quickly begin to find evidence that complicates the story. All the while, Carrie is very aware that she’s crossed the line – if the detective sergeant running the investigation finds out she’s been messing around with his case, her career will be over before it has begun.

Review –

I listened to the Audible (freebie) Original, The Sisters. narrated by Aoife McMahon. It’s a quick listen, only a little over three hours, and very satisfying.

It is a prequel to The Ruin which I read August 19 of this year and reviewed on this blog on September 21st.

Two sisters, who live together, are at the beginning of their careers in Dublin. One sister, Aifric is a new barrister who is assigned a murder case and has no support from her bosses. The other sister, Carrie is trying to make detective in a sexist environment. Both sisters are confronted with impossibilities in their careers. Aifric talks to her sister about her case, and Carrie becomes inquisitive at the questionable evidence.

It’s a character driven short story, with each sister taking a chapter. It’s amazing that one can be totally involved so quickly. The performance by McMahon is perfect. I highly recommend it!

Although it is a prequel to The Ruin, you do not have to read it first before delving into this one.

Crashed (Driven #3) by K. Bromberg

Book Description:

Published: March 4, 2014

Format: offers-headphones-jpgmaxheight138maxwidth207

When life crashes down around us, how hard are we willing to fight for the one thing we can’t live without, each other?

Life is full of moments.
Big moments.
Little moments.
And none of them are inconsequential.
Every single moment prepares you for that one instance that defines your life. You must overcome all your fears, confront the demons that chase you, and cleanse the poison that clings to your soul or you risk the chance of losing everything.

Mine started the minute Rylee fell out of that damn storage closet. She made me feel. Made me whole when all I thought I could ever be was incomplete. Became the lifeline I never knew I needed. Hell yes, she’s worth the fight…but how do you fight for someone you know you don’t deserve?

Love is full of ups and downs.
Heart stopping highs.
Soul shattering lows.
And none of them are insignificant.
Love is a racecourse of unexpected twists and turns that must be negotiated. You have to break down walls, learn to trust, and heal from your past in order to win. But sometimes it’s the expected that’s the hardest to hold on to.

Colton has healed and completed me, stolen my heart, and made me realize our love’s not predictable nor perfect—it’s bent. And bent’s okay. But when outside factors put our relationship to the test, what lengths will I have to go to prove to him that he’s worth the fight?

Whoever said love is patient and love is kind, never met the two of us. We know our love is worth it—have acknowledged that we were meant to be—but when our pasts crash into our future, will the repercussions make us stronger or break us apart?

Review –

This installment of the Driven series didn’t have as many steamy sex scenes as the first two, but the ones it did have burned up my iPad.

Colton was in a crash at the end of Fueled and the first part of this book evolves around his touch and go recovery and the aftermath of his fears and self-doubts.

Rylee was by his side the whole time but still Colton wasn’t sure of her affection (he can’t bring himself to believe she could ever love him since he can’t even say the word)

On top of this, Tawny, his one time sweetheart and employee, claims that he is the father of her child and he flatly denies this but Rylee doesn’t believe him and they split. During this time they are both miserable and stubbornly cease all contact. Colton has a paternity test done, gets the results and calls Rylee only to hear her scream while on the phone and to discover that Zander’s father(his killed his wife and Zander’s mother and Zander saw it all)is at the safe house making threats. He doesn’t get there in time and Rylee is beaten but in the end Zander’s father is killed.

Rylee refuses to go to the hospital later that night miscarries a baby she never thought she would be able to have. Colton doesn’t know how this makes him feel. He never wanted children because of his past and now Rylee almost dies because of him.

Well, to make a long story short:

  • Rylee heals but is told she will probably never be able to conceive again.
  • Colton realizes how much he needs her in his life.
  • He finds out his birth mother is dead and this throws him for a loop.
  • He confesses his secret to Rylee and they have a turning point in their rocky relationship.
  • Colton can final tell Rylee in the right words that he LOVES her.
  • He proposes.
  • Ten years later, we discover that they had adopted Zander(who now races) and had a little boy of their own.
  • They finally have their HEA.

Fantastic read/listen !!!!!
