Good Men (Book Two) by Lucia Jordan

Book Description:

Published: August 18, 2017

Format: E-Book

There was no blurb given for this book. It’s just a repeat of the one used for Book One.  You would think the author would want to let her readers know what to expect in the second book.

Review –

I found this one a bit on the boring side, although there was a lot of action, (bedroom sex, fast get-a-ways on a motorcycle, and confronting Kevin and Liam’s old girlfriend at the Den(motorcycle club))

I felt it was too short and that this whole series should have been written as one book. BUT, then I wouldn’t have to buy books three and four and I’m too invested not to continue the series.

Passable read.

Good Men (Book 1) by Lucia Jordan

Book Description:

Format: Free Digital Book

“Say, yes,” his husky voice coaxed, lips gliding against the column of her throat.  As his lips ghosted over her skin, his hands inched the hem of her skirt higher and higher . . .

They weren’t what they seemed. They weren’t who they claimed to be. They were something so much more. Trapped in a loveless marriage by a man harboring too many dark secrets to count, Aspen discovers her very life is in danger. She tries to walk away, but it’s never that simple. Nothing ever is.

Kevin and Liam are the only two men that can keep her safe. They are the only two men that leave her heart racing and her body charged with an electrical current. They are bad for her, but she can’t get enough. They have a secret life, and she’s been tossed into the middle of it. She thought they were there to save her. Maybe . . . she was wrong.

Review –

Aspen married a man twenty years her senior and at first things were fine, but five years later he’s hitting her, sexually ignoring her, and because she saw something she shouldn’t, he’s threatening her life.

She seeks the help of two handsome tattooed attorneys on getting a divorce but finds it’s not going to be easy. Allan, her husband, is in a “mob” and has many influential friends.

She is as immediately drawn to the strong bodied, caring men as they are  to her. Their lives are much different now from their early years being brought up in a motorcycle club, but it’s that knowledge that will help them now help Aspen.

Great read and the sexual chemistry between the attorneys and Aspen was off the charts.

Looking forward to reading Book Two.

Adventurous Me (Me, You and Us #1) by Deanndra Hall

Book Description:

Published: March 31, 2014

Format: Free Digital Book

Boring. Tiresome. Predictable. That’s how Trish’s husband of almost 30 years described her when he told her he was leaving. Trish sets out to drink her blues away when she literally stumbles onto a man who offers her the adventure of a lifetime. Trish has no idea what she’s walking into when she visits Bliss, the local BDSM club, but under Dave’s tutelage, she takes to the new lifestyle readily.

And when she’s paired for two weeks with Clint, the one Dom in the place who can’t seem to stand her, sparks fly. He keeps her so confused that Trish isn’t sure what’s going on. She’s sure of one thing, however: She’s falling for the handsome, tortured soul, and she’s hoping he’s falling for her.

But when a simple mistake puts her in harm’s way at his hands, Trish has to decide: Is it an adventure worth dying for? And when everything falls apart, can she manage to forgive him? More importantly, can he forgive himself and bury the ghosts that have been haunting him for too long?

Adventurous Me is a fun, sexy, sweet, explicit, romantic romp that’ll leave you breathless and hopeful. And it’s definitely not for the under-18 crowd.

Review –

Adventurous Me is the first book I have read by author Deanndra Hall, but I can tell you, it definitely will not be my last. From the first page to the very last page I was completely hooked! I absolutely adore the main character, Trish. She proves that adventure and love have no boundaries no matter what your age is.

Trish is a forty-nine year old woman**, who is in the process of being divorced after thirty of marriage. Her soon to be ex husband claims her to be “boring, tiresome, and predictable”, so she sets out on an adventure to prove him and herself that she is anything but that.

While Trish is out drinking one night, trying to prove that regardless of her age she can still be adventurous, she falls into the lap (literally) of a man who is willing to show her just how adventurous and fun she can be, given the right circumstances. Trish is pulled into a world that she knew nothing about(BDSM) but embraces every single second of it. A world where she meets Clint.

Clint is a man who has been through a world of hurt. He’s a man who gets thrown together with Trish to show her the ropes (pun intended) of this new world that she is eager to explore. Together they learn many things about one another and about themselves as individuals.
This book has everything from sexual chemistry, steamy sex scenes, heartbreak to happiness and a HEA.

Loved it!

** One of the many reasons I loved this book is that the author shows how more mature (and older) women can have just as much fun and fulfillment at a “sex” club as the younger set. Most contemporary romances/erotica are written with a young perfect-bodied woman as the lead and some days that’s hard to relate to. So THANK YOU Deanndra Hall!

Falling into You (Falling #1) by Jasinda Wilder

Book Description:

Published: March 14, 2013

Format: Audio/Audible

I wasn’t always in love with Colton Calloway; I was in love with his younger brother, Kyle, first. Kyle was my first one true love, my first in every way.

Then, one stormy August night, he died, and the person I was died with him.

Colton didn’t teach me how to live. He didn’t heal the pain. He didn’t make it okay. He taught me how to hurt, how to not be okay, and, eventually, how to let go.

Review –

The dedication set the tone for the story. Heavy. Emotional. Hitting you right in the heart.

“This book is for anyone who has ever lost a loved one, for anyone who has woken up crying and gone to bed the same way, for anyone who has had to learn that it’s okay to not be okay. Surviving isn’t strength, it’s continuing to breathe one day at a time; strength is learning to live despite the pain.”

Every once in a while I read a book that renders me speechless. Falling Into You was such a book . Jasinda Wilder has written a book that is very real, passionate and poignant. Falling Into You is about survival. Surviving loss. Surviving grief. Surviving heart-break. Surviving yourself.

Both Colton and Nell are broken. They have experienced events that have literally crushed them. They find each other and become that anchor for one another, albeit it reluctantly and cautiously at first. What they find in their grief was truly beautiful. They find someone to hold them up. They cling to each other for comfort, for strength, for passion, for love and, most of all, they desperately hang onto one another to survive heart-breaking losses.

If you have yet to read this remarkable book, please do so. I am unable to write anything further as Falling Into You is one of those books that is beyond words or accurate descriptions. It moved me. I truly felt Nell’s pain, and Colton’s as well. I grieved with them. I hurt with them. And, I fell in love with them.

Five stars.

Reaper’s Legacy (Reapers MC #2) by Joanna Wylde

Eight years ago, Sophie gave her heart-and her virginity-to Zach Barrett on a night that couldn’t have been less romantic or more embarrassing. Zach’s step-brother, a steely-muscled, tattooed biker named Ruger, caught them in the act, getting a peep show of Sophie he’s never forgotten.

She may have lost her dignity that fateful night, but Sophie also gained something precious-her son Noah. Unfortunately, Zach’s a deadbeat dad, leaving Ruger to be Noah’s only male role model. When he discovers Sophie and his nephew living in near poverty, Ruger takes matters into his own hands-with the help of the Reapers Motorcycle Club-to give them a better life.

Living with outlaw bikers wasn’t Sophie’s plan for her son, but Ruger isn’t giving her a choice. He’ll be there for Noah, whether she wants him or not. But Sophie does want him, has always wanted him. Now she’ll learn that taking a biker to bed can get a girl dirty in every way.

Review –

This is the  seconding the Reaper’s Motorcycle Club series and  mixes a super-hot bad guy, a struggling young single mother, and sex that blisters the imagination, resulting in a thrill ride as raw as it is well written. When Sophie was a teen, she lost her virginity to Zach Barrett, the boy she thought she loved. She also suffered the mortification of having his hot stepbrother, Ruger, catch them in the act. She got pregnant, and Zach turned out to be a deadbeat dad. Eight years later, Ruger swoops in to rescue Sophie and her son from poverty, with the caveat that she must accept the rules of the Reapers Motorcycle Club, who will be her new family. Stubborn Sophie resists the club and lady-killer Ruger at every turn, but their mutual attraction is beyond her control. Filled with rough language, no-holds-barred sex, the rumblings of a biker war, and threats from the past, this fast-paced novel entertains while setting up the next book in the series, Devil’s Game, which deals with Hunter and Emily.

Excellent read.

The Dark Light of Day (The Dark Light of Day #1) by T.M. Frazier

Book Description:

Published: January 2, 2016

Format: Audio/Audible

Homeless, sleeping in a junkyard, and on the run from a system that has failed her over and over again, Abby meets Jake, a tattooed blue-eyed biker with secrets that rival her own. Two broken souls that can’t be healed, they can’t be saved. Abby and Jake have to decide if they can accept the darkness not only within one another, but within themselves.

If they can accept each other for who they really are they might learn that love isn’t always found in the light…

WARNING: This is NOT your typical romance.
The story of Jake & Abby contains disturbing situations, graphic violence, sex, strong language, drug use, and all types of abuse.

Review –

I have read books with damaged, broken souls but they DO NOT compare to the utter desolation and suffering in the lives of Jake and Abby.

Abby’s parents were drug addicts and worse. When Abby was nine years old her mother didn’t have any money to pay for her drugs so she gave the man Abby in payment. When he tried to rape her she stabbed him in the eye with a piece of mirror that her mother used to snort cocaine. For punishment Abby’s mother tied her to a hot radiator and burned her with cigarettes and cut her all over her body with a knife. Abby did escape and run naked and bleeding to a fire station where she found help. Her mother was tried and sentenced to life in prison.

At seventeen Abby’s loses her grandmother and is homeless and hiding in a junkyard from Child Protective Services.

The last time twenty-two year old Jake Dunn saw his father he tried to kill him. He has always blamed Jake for the death of his wife and “good ” son. Now he’s a drunk and Jake has come back to look after the family business. He finds Abby in an old truck and almost shoots her, but falls in love with her at first sight instead. Jake know’s he’s no good for her and is too old for her and that he  kills people for a living, but it doesn’t matter. All that matters is Abby.

Abby and Jake find each other and are able to open up for the first time in their young lives.

Just as they are getting somewhere in their relationship, Jake has to leave town for a while for a job. If poor Abby hasn’t been through enough already, she goes through something even more traumatic while Jake is gone. It’s devastating. It’s disturbing. It will break your heart.

I won’t tell you what happens just know that it’s a dark storyline, with  broken characters, a damaged man, tough not annoying heroine, heartbreaking and sad, but heart warming at times… and most importantly, gave me a case of the feels.

This one will bring out some strong emotions in you. The Dark Light of Day is about so much more than finding love and healing. It’s about a girl, a girl who endured more than suffering and trauma than any person should ever go through, finding the strength to move on. That it’s okay to be touched, to fall in love, to find happiness and let people in. Jake and Abby were able to find beauty in all the ugly.

A fantastic read and the cover, for the most part, matches the story.

Five stars.

Hot Connection, The Complete Set by Lucia Jordan

Zoe Lang’s life isn’t working out quite as she hoped.

She knows that one day soon, he’ll come back to sweep her off her feet, and together they’ll build the life that he always promised her. Then one night, Zoe’s apartment building catches fire, and her life changes forever when she meets smolderingly handsome firefighter, Cole Mitchell. When Zoe saves his life, their futures become inexorably entangled.

Review –

The first “book” in this short set was free and ended with such an abrupt cliffhanger that I HAD to buy the complete series.

Poor Zoe, if it wasn’t for her bad luck she would have no luck at all.

She wakes up in her small apartment on the third floor and smells smoke. She grabs her purse and her photo album with all the momentous of Edward, her “boyfriend” since High School.

She notices that a neighbor and her two children are not accounted for and tells a fireman who rushes back into the building. Then, three  fireman come out of the building with the missing occupants but the other fireman is missing.Zoe runs into the fiery building and finds him caught under a metal pipe. She grabs the hot pipe and he is able ti get free and then the roof collapses.

She wakes up in the hospital with both hands bandaged and a fireman sitting in the chair next to her bed. She saved his life and now he wants to be there for her.

He sees the album with Edward’s pictures and letters but still asks her to come to his home after she’s released so he can take care of her. She really doesn’t have any other place to go so she gives in even though she thinks it’s a dangerous thing to do given how attracted she is to the fireman.

Days go by and the sexual tension between them gets too strong and Zoe gives in to her feelings but then regrets it and moved out and into her brother’s home, even though there is tension between them.

Fast forward and we find out that Edward is a cheat and a “gold digger”(Zoe will inherit a nice amount eventually) and her brother’s wife turns out to be Edward’s sister and they’ve been working together.

Needless to say, Cole and Zoe get back together and there is a HEA.

Good story all around and made for a very steamy and pleasant read.

RANT: I HATE this cover because it is very misleading and totally off the mark for this series. Total book cover rant coming soon!

Bait by Jade West

Book Description:

Format: Free Digital Book

A stranger online. Dark hair and even darker eyes that knew my dirty desires before I did.
A fantasy that should never be spoken. But he pulled the confession from me.
And now he’s coming for me.
Rough. Dirty. Dangerous.
It’s supposed to be one night to get me off and make me forget.
He’ll make me his and I’ll pretend I don’t want him to.
I’ll run and he’ll chase.
Because I asked him for this.
I begged him for this.

Tonight, in the darkness, he’s the hunter.
And I’m the bait.

Review –

Abigail Summers moved to a new city to leave behind her old life. But no matter where she went, demons from her past caught up to her, making her crave a dangerous game.Abigail was one gutsy woman. She perfectly aware what she jumped into and took matter into her own hand to regain her spirit. I like how she could let herself loose while not losing control.

Phoenix may be a stranger, but he was no stranger to the dark needs. He let the monster lay dormant inside him until she breathed it back to life. On the surface, Phoenix had that wild and dangerous appeal. And I like how beyond that he was perfectly normal. He may be ruthless, but he also had heart.

What I like the most about these characters is that they’re unapologetic for what they need and they clicked together like a jigsaw puzzle. The sex scenes were dirty and the situation added to the hotness.

The book started dark and mysterious with a tinge of ominous tone. I enjoyed the overall storyline even though I wasn’t surprised by outcome.

Bait is a story of two broken souls finding comfort with each other. It would appeal to readers looking for dark, erotic read with element of suspense.

Review –

This is a book that I would place in a category I call SOFT SMUT. I call it that because the sex scenes are minimal and it’s really all about the characters  and their chemistry with one another.

I knew that going in and it was a very pleasant read even though I knew, without a doubt, that it wold end with a HEA. There’s a good bit of self-deprecating humor mixed in with the passion, plus a sarcastic undertone.

I think you’ll enjoy this contemporary romance if you like powerful, sexy businessmen and smart, sassy women who know exactly what they want.

At Any Price (Gaming the System #1) by Brenna Aubrey

Book Description:

Published: December 9, 2013

Format: Free Digital Book

When Mia Strong, proud geek-girl and popular gaming blogger, auctions off her virginity online, she knows she’ll make waves. But what she will not be making is a love connection. Her rules are set in stone: One night. No further contact.

It’s a desperate step, but it’s the only way she can go to medical school and pay her mother’s mounting hospital bills.

Difficulty Level: Millionaire CEO

Adam Drake, the enigmatic auction winner, is a software prodigy who made his first million at seventeen. Now, in his mid-twenties, he’s sexy, driven and–as CEO of his own gaming company–he’s used to making the rules. Before Mia knows what’s happening, he’s found the loophole in the rules of her auction. Every stipulation she’s made to protect her heart gets tossed by the wayside.

She can’t tell if he’s playing her…or if he’s playing for keeps.

Review –

I loved the characters and plot of At Any Price. The characters were unique and well-developed. They both have their hangups which causes them to close themselves off, one from the other, at times. I just wanted to shake them back into reality.

The romance is slow burn, and almost teasing. It’s there and then it wasn’t. Adam decided to bid and win the auction because he didn’t want her to “sell” her virginity and even though he is the one to take it, it’s only after the deal has been cancelled. He loves her but doesn’t know how to tell her. Unbeknownst to him, Mia is falling in love with him too but doesn’t know what to do with those feelings.

Mia didn’t  know it but Adam has known about her and a lot of her financial difficulties for over a year because of being a player in one of the video games she plays. When she finds out, she is livid.

I am content with the end to their story in this book, so I might not read on in the series. The next one is told from Adam’s POV, which I am certain I WILL NOT read and the third book is their HEA and since I know that’s how it’s going to end I don’t care the spend money to confirm it.

Pleasant read.
