Stuck Up Suit by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward

Book Description:

Published: April 11, 2016

Format: Audio/OverDrive

It started out like any other morning on the train.
Until I became mesmerized by the guy sitting across the aisle.
He was barking at someone on his phone like he ruled the world.
Who did the stuck-up suit think he was…God?
Actually, he looked like a God. That was about it.
When his stop came, he got up suddenly and left. So suddenly, he dropped his phone on the way out.
I might have picked it up.
I might have gone through all of his photos and called some of the numbers.
I might have held onto the mystery man’s phone for days―until I finally conjured up the courage to return it.
When I traipsed my ass across town to his fancy company, he refused to see me.
So, I left the phone on the empty desk outside the arrogant jerk’s office.
I might have also left behind a dirty picture on it first though.
I didn’t expect him to text back.
I didn’t expect our exchanges to be hot as hell.
I didn’t expect to fall for him―all before we even met.
The two of us couldn’t have been any more different.
Yet, you know what they say about opposites.
When we finally came face to face, we found out opposites sometimes do more than attract―we consumed each other.
Nothing could have prepared me for the ride he took me on. And I certainly wasn’t prepared for where I’d wind up when the ride was over.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Review –

I love it when a contemporary romance has substance to it, like a plausible plot, instead of just sex for the sake of sex.

In this stand alone novel a rich, stuck up, angry man in a suit loses his phone on the train and an Italian girl with a smart mouth and color on the tips of her hair finds it and after a few days returns it to him with a few pictures of her legs, butt and cleavage plus her number. Graham finally discovers who she is and the two start a hot and heavy relationship. The sex scene, which did not happen at their first meeting, was very well written and not over the top. What made it so good was the chemistry they had and their suggestive texts to one another.

They both come into the relationship with baggage, she has trust issues because of her father leaving when she was young and he not wanting to get hurt again after his fiancée cheated on him with his best friend.

It was fun watching Mr. Stuck Up Suit soften and allow his real self to emerge from his tough exterior and to watch her learn to trust again and take a chance on love.

Along the way there is a death, an ex-girlfriend/fiancée , a new-found daughter, and a happily ever after.

( But it takes awhile to get there.)

I really enjoyed this book and will now look for more books by this team of authors.

Devil’s Advocate (Book Two) by Carla Coxwell

Book Description:

Published: June 4, 2015

Format: E-Book

Kristie has finally graduated from college. With a new boyfriend in tow, Gray’s rival, Armand, and moving back into her mother’s house, it feels as if life might finally fall back into place. But Gray, the love of her life and her cousin by marriage, happens to return after hiding out of town. He’s been freed of being suspected of a murder he didn’t commit and is now looking to reclaim glory in his gang, the Devil’s Advocates, once again.

But both Kristie and Gray are in for surprises. People aren’t always what they seem. Kristie struggles to work through her relationship problems with Armand while Gray struggles to fall back into a position of power in the life he left behind. As the two of them are drawn closer together, both must choose the life they want – with each other, or alone. No matter what they end up picking, the risks in their lives can end up costing the two of them everything.

Review –

I can’t believe that Kristie would fall for Armand. He’s a slimy fake and I feel he’s just using her to get back at Gray.

Speaking of Gray, things don’t go so well for him in Book Two. While he was on the run from being falsely accused of a hit and run, Armand is trying to take over the Devil’s Advocates MC club and working for the Infernos.

The Infernos  beat Gray almost to death and later Armand tries again. Both times it’s close but he able to take the reign of the club again and convince Kristie that he does love her.

He even proposes marriage, she accepts and the wedding goes off without a hitch, but while getting into the cab to head to the airport to start their honeymoon Kristie is shot twice by a masked assailant and is near death when the book ends.

Gray has promised Kristie he is done with the MC gang life but since Armand is still lurking out there I have a feeling that promise will go by the wayside.

Not sure if I’ll read books three and four, but probably will down the road.

Review –

You know I’m a sucker for a motorcycle club/bad biker boy/contemporary romance and when I ran across the blurb for this one AND it was free, I couldn’t resist.

It’s the typical good girl/bad boy contemporary romance BUT with a twist. Kristie and Gray are cousins by marriage and they are hugely attracted to one another. The story deals with Gray’s uncle  trying to get him to change his ways and his dealings with a motorcycle gang and Kristie coming home for a college break , meeting her new step-father and his nephew, Gray. There is also a policeman, John, who becomes attracted to Kristie and uses her to get the goods on Gray so he can be arrested for a hit and run/murder that he did not commit and a motorcycle club member, Armand, whose intentions are anything but honorable, when it comes to Gray.

There is of course a few sex scenes but they are on the mild side(compared to some) and by the end of the book Gray has told Kristie he was just using her, but in reality he doesn’t want to involve her anymore deeply into his chaos  and so he skips town and Kristie starts dating Armand. (I also gagged when I read that because he is so slimy )If anyone is using Kristie, it’s Armand.

All in all, a great read. Looking forward to Book Two.

Review –

This is the first book in this series that I have read and I found it a very enjoyable read because it had an actual plot separate from the sexual storyline. Most times in the genre of contemporary/ erotic romance sex dominates the entire story and sometimes that’s fine but once in a while it can be a bit much. It was refreshing to have the sex play a part in the story, like a character.

There was suspense, angst, dark sexy times, an intriguing plot, stable characters full of passion, snarky attitudes, and a journey to self-acceptance with a sexy domineering hero. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Excellent read  and I plan to check out the other books in the series, which I found out are all written by different authors.

Note*

Call me a chicken but I’m not showing the cover because my feed shows up on my Facebook page and it’s very very sexual in nature and I don’t want to shock my friends. You can see the picture on my page of covers I like.

Good Men (Book Two) by Lucia Jordan

Book Description:

Published: August 18, 2017

Format: E-Book

There was no blurb given for this book. It’s just a repeat of the one used for Book One.  You would think the author would want to let her readers know what to expect in the second book.

Review –

I found this one a bit on the boring side, although there was a lot of action, (bedroom sex, fast get-a-ways on a motorcycle, and confronting Kevin and Liam’s old girlfriend at the Den(motorcycle club))

I felt it was too short and that this whole series should have been written as one book. BUT, then I wouldn’t have to buy books three and four and I’m too invested not to continue the series.

Passable read.

Good Men (Book 1) by Lucia Jordan

Book Description:

“Say, yes,” his husky voice coaxed, lips gliding against the column of her throat.  As his lips ghosted over her skin, his hands inched the hem of her skirt higher and higher . . .

They weren’t what they seemed. They weren’t who they claimed to be. They were something so much more. Trapped in a loveless marriage by a man harboring too many dark secrets to count, Aspen discovers her very life is in danger. She tries to walk away, but it’s never that simple. Nothing ever is.

Kevin and Liam are the only two men that can keep her safe. They are the only two men that leave her heart racing and her body charged with an electrical current. They are bad for her, but she can’t get enough. They have a secret life, and she’s been tossed into the middle of it. She thought they were there to save her. Maybe . . . she was wrong.

Review –

Aspen married a man twenty years her senior and at first things were fine, but five years later he’s hitting her, sexually ignoring her, and because she saw something she shouldn’t, he’s threatening her life.

She seeks the help of two handsome tattooed attorneys on getting a divorce but finds it’s not going to be easy. Allan, her husband, is in a “mob” and has many influential friends.

She is as immediately drawn to the strong bodied, caring men as they are  to her. Their lives are much different now from their early years being brought up in a motorcycle club, but it’s that knowledge that will help them now help Aspen.

Great read and the sexual chemistry between the attorneys and Aspen was off the charts.

Looking forward to reading Book Two.

Dirty Filthy Rich Love (Dirty Duet #2) by Laurelin Paige

Book Description:

Published: September 11, 2017

Format: E-Book

I’ve discovered Donovan Kincaid’s secret.

It’s dirty and filthy and rich – as dirty and filthy and rich as he is – and it haunts me as much as he ever did.

Even after knowing what I know now, I still want to talk to him, to touch him. But there’s an ocean between us, and I’m not sure it can be crossed with something as easy as a phone call or a plane ride.

Yet I’m willing to try.

He doesn’t know this yet, but this time I’m the one with the power. And maybe – just maybe – if the air were cleared and all our secrets bared, there could still be a chance for us.

And this dirty, filthy thing between us might end up being love after all.

Review –
This is the second book in the Dirty Duet series  and takes off immediately where Dirty Filthy Rich Men ended; leaving Sabrina in the aftermath of her revelations about Donovan.
He never expected for his heart to get muddled  or to even give it to anyone else again after so many years of hiding it behind substantial walls. But if his actions are anything to go by, he’s done just that with Sabrina. And though he was willing to walk away from her to protect her from himself, the pull between them is much too strong.
The author pulls us deeper into the path of this couple and their dark brand of kink. She throws us right into the focal point  of their storm and it was impossible to tear your attention away for even a second. I’ve always loved Donovan’s strength, vigor, sexiness and controlling nature,  but I loved seeing his vulnerable side even more(very HOT). The man is all sorts of delicious with his possessive and dominant tendencies. I loved seeing Sabrina put him in his place while giving into him at the same time, and  loved watching the sparks between them blaze hotter and hotter until it explodes into something sinfully delicious.
And we get an immensely satisfying ending!

Rule (Marked Men #1) by Jay Crownover

Book Description:

Published: December 30, 2012

Format: E-Book

Opposites in every way . . . except the one that matters

Shaw Landon loved Rule Archer from the moment she laid eyes on him. Rule is everything a straight-A pre-med student like Shaw shouldn’t want—and the only person she’s never tried to please. She isn’t afraid of his scary piercings and tattoos or his wild attitude. Though she knows that Rule is wrong for her, her heart just won’t listen.

To a rebel like Rule Archer, Shaw Landon is a stuck-up, perfect princess-and his dead twin brother’s girl. She lives by other people’s rules; he makes his own. He doesn’t have time for a good girl like Shaw-even if she’s the only one who can see the person he truly is.

But a short skirt, too many birthday cocktails, and spilled secrets lead to a night neither can forget. Now, Shaw and Rule have to figure out how a girl like her and a guy like him are supposed to be together without destroying their love . . . or each other.

Review –

My daughter mentioned that she had started another book by Jay Crownover and I said that I had never read any of her work and because of her I was going to change that right away.

I checked out all of her books and decided on Rule, the first installment of the Marked Men series.

I’m a sucker for a male protagonist that is a hot, a bad ass and tattooed. Rule seems to fit the bill. I wish the author had included an illustration of a male body with all of Rule’s tats because according to the description, he had them EVERYWHERE.

Rule and Shaw have a very complicated relationship.

Rule Archer had an identical twin brother(minus the ink and piercings), Remy Archer. Remy and Shaw were very close, they were best friends. Everyone assumed their relationship was romantic, but it was strictly platonic. Remy died in a car accident three years ago. Shaw has been a part of the Archer family since she started hanging around with Remy at thirteen. Rules parents and older brother Rome love Shaw. Every Sunday, Shaw picks up Rule(she often finds him in compromising positions) and brings him to his parents house for brunch. Rules parents(especially his mother) are critical of rule and his lifestyle. Lets be honest.. Rule is a bit of a man slut, and with his changing hair color/style, ink and piercings etc, he is not what any conservative family would deem appropriate. Shaw doesn’t care. She loves everything about Rule and it drives her crazy that his parents don’t see all the wonderful in him. Unfortunately, Rule thinks Shaw was his brothers girl so he’s never seen her as anything else. Plus, she seems like too much of a good girl/spoiled princess for him. One drunken night, Shaw will finally make her move on Rule. And it will change everything….

You see this story through the eyes of Rule and Shaw, with the dual povs.
Rule is dealing with guilt from his brother’s death, his mother blames him and people just don’t accept who he is. Remy is one of the few people who did and he is gone. He copes with his issues with alcohol and women. Lots and lots of women. Shaw is a college student, and a virgin (due to the fact that when ever she got close to a guy, it didn’t work. Because they weren’t Rule.) She has parents who expect perfection from her, but they are all about appearances. They don’t really care. She is dealing with a psycho stalker ex boyfriend and is keeping a secret for her best friend Remy, that makes her life more difficult. Rule and Shaw have a lot of obstacles to overcome in their relationship.

Rule and Shaw’s relationship had many ups and downs, but they had some scorching hot moments and some really sweet and swoony moments. Loved their relationship and their chemistry. They were perfect together.

I loved everything about this story but there  were many grammatical issues, but the story was so good, they were easily overlooked. The ending was PERFECT!

Adventurous Me (Me, You and Us #1) by Deanndra Hall

Book Description:

Published: March 31, 2014

Format: Free Digital Book

Boring. Tiresome. Predictable. That’s how Trish’s husband of almost 30 years described her when he told her he was leaving. Trish sets out to drink her blues away when she literally stumbles onto a man who offers her the adventure of a lifetime. Trish has no idea what she’s walking into when she visits Bliss, the local BDSM club, but under Dave’s tutelage, she takes to the new lifestyle readily.

And when she’s paired for two weeks with Clint, the one Dom in the place who can’t seem to stand her, sparks fly. He keeps her so confused that Trish isn’t sure what’s going on. She’s sure of one thing, however: She’s falling for the handsome, tortured soul, and she’s hoping he’s falling for her.

But when a simple mistake puts her in harm’s way at his hands, Trish has to decide: Is it an adventure worth dying for? And when everything falls apart, can she manage to forgive him? More importantly, can he forgive himself and bury the ghosts that have been haunting him for too long?

Adventurous Me is a fun, sexy, sweet, explicit, romantic romp that’ll leave you breathless and hopeful. And it’s definitely not for the under-18 crowd.

Review –

Adventurous Me is the first book I have read by author Deanndra Hall, but I can tell you, it definitely will not be my last. From the first page to the very last page I was completely hooked! I absolutely adore the main character, Trish. She proves that adventure and love have no boundaries no matter what your age is.

Trish is a forty-nine year old woman**, who is in the process of being divorced after thirty of marriage. Her soon to be ex husband claims her to be “boring, tiresome, and predictable”, so she sets out on an adventure to prove him and herself that she is anything but that.

While Trish is out drinking one night, trying to prove that regardless of her age she can still be adventurous, she falls into the lap (literally) of a man who is willing to show her just how adventurous and fun she can be, given the right circumstances. Trish is pulled into a world that she knew nothing about(BDSM) but embraces every single second of it. A world where she meets Clint.

Clint is a man who has been through a world of hurt. He’s a man who gets thrown together with Trish to show her the ropes (pun intended) of this new world that she is eager to explore. Together they learn many things about one another and about themselves as individuals.
This book has everything from sexual chemistry, steamy sex scenes, heartbreak to happiness and a HEA.

Loved it!

** One of the many reasons I loved this book is that the author shows how more mature (and older) women can have just as much fun and fulfillment at a “sex” club as the younger set. Most contemporary romances/erotica are written with a young perfect-bodied woman as the lead and some days that’s hard to relate to. So THANK YOU Deanndra Hall!

Falling into You (Falling #1) by Jasinda Wilder

Book Description:

Published: March 14, 2013

Format: Audio/Audible

I wasn’t always in love with Colton Calloway; I was in love with his younger brother, Kyle, first. Kyle was my first one true love, my first in every way.

Then, one stormy August night, he died, and the person I was died with him.

Colton didn’t teach me how to live. He didn’t heal the pain. He didn’t make it okay. He taught me how to hurt, how to not be okay, and, eventually, how to let go.

Review –

The dedication set the tone for the story. Heavy. Emotional. Hitting you right in the heart.

“This book is for anyone who has ever lost a loved one, for anyone who has woken up crying and gone to bed the same way, for anyone who has had to learn that it’s okay to not be okay. Surviving isn’t strength, it’s continuing to breathe one day at a time; strength is learning to live despite the pain.”

Every once in a while I read a book that renders me speechless. Falling Into You was such a book . Jasinda Wilder has written a book that is very real, passionate and poignant. Falling Into You is about survival. Surviving loss. Surviving grief. Surviving heart-break. Surviving yourself.

Both Colton and Nell are broken. They have experienced events that have literally crushed them. They find each other and become that anchor for one another, albeit it reluctantly and cautiously at first. What they find in their grief was truly beautiful. They find someone to hold them up. They cling to each other for comfort, for strength, for passion, for love and, most of all, they desperately hang onto one another to survive heart-breaking losses.

If you have yet to read this remarkable book, please do so. I am unable to write anything further as Falling Into You is one of those books that is beyond words or accurate descriptions. It moved me. I truly felt Nell’s pain, and Colton’s as well. I grieved with them. I hurt with them. And, I fell in love with them.

Five stars.
