It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

SOMETIMES THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU IS THE ONE WHO HURTS YOU THE MOST

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up – she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily, but Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan – her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

This book contains graphic scenes and very sensitive subject matter.

First of all, I want to say that I gave this book five stars ***** and it deserved more.

It got a LOT of hype and some readers didn’t like it and some loved it. I’m in the latter category. It deals with a subject whose depth you can not comprehend unless you are a part of it. Thank my lucky stars, I was not ever, nor do I think I will ever be a part of it.

I would love to tell you everything about this book but I can’t because it would give too much away and I want you to read it or listen to it. I want everyone to read or listen to it. Men and women.

This book broke my heart because I was rooting for the man I thought was “perfect”, but I guess if something looks perfect it’s too good to be true. Love can hurt and love can heal but one person can’t do both.

The blurb makes it sound like a “love triangle” is involved but it’s not. That is not the point, or the focus. Whatever it is you’re thinking this book is, just trust me — it’s so much bigger than that. Seriously, trust Colleen. I did.

This book is now at my top favorite books of the year. I was unable to stop listening for long periods of time and other times I HAD  to stop listening. My heart couldn’t take it and I needed more Kleenex. I know that this is one of those profoundly beautiful and unforgettable stories that will stay with me for a long time.

I highly recommend it to everyone!

Five-star-feedback-on-oDesk

I knew the premise to this book before I read it and I knew it would be good because I haven’t read a bad book written by Colleen Hoover. What I didn’t expect was to be totally blown away by the story and the chemistry between Ben and Fallon. The spark between them was immediate (instalove) and the story was so unique and surprising.

I found myself falling in love, having my heart-broken and falling in love again.  Fallon, and for that matter Ben too, was so much stronger than I would have been in the same situation. To go a whole year and not see or hear from “that special someone”, are you kidding me? No phone calls, no letter writing, and no social media, NOTHING!!!!  I wouldn’t have been able to do it. I would have driven myself crazy with jealousy thinking of all the girls he would be dating, etc.  But thankfully these fictional characters did just that and met up once a year for five years on November 9th. The date is very important to both of them, but until the end they don’t know it.

There are a couple of pretty big twists in this story and I won’t tell you what they are because it would ruin the story for you. Just know that they make a big difference in the story to each of the characters, especially one twist. I was afraid that the couple would not be able to get over the heartbreak that this one twist caused. But thank heavens, they did.

It is a wonderful story and you’ll cheer, pull your hair out and cry, but it is well worth it.

OMG!  I can’t believe that I haven’t read this book until now.  The blurb doesn’t do it justice. Really it is  just a teaser.  The book  is FREAKING AMAZING!

Charlie and Silas “wake up”(although that’s not an accurate statement) and realize they have no memories, NONE, of anything: who they are, where they are, who their friends or enemies are, what the dynamics of their family relationships are and most importantly, what their relationship is to one another.

They don’t let anyone know about their conditions and slowly piece a few things together.  They’re in love, or used to be, Their families hates each other and don’t want them together, they both have tattoos on their backs, Charlie’s father is in prison for embezzlement and more in regards to a business he used to co-own and run with Silas’s father and Charlie has been cheating on Silas with Brian, a boy from school and Silas has been cheating on Charlie’s with the school’s guidance counselor, Ms. Ashley.

After after a disastrous tarot reading in the French Quarter, Charlie pretends to get in a cab to get away from Silas and disappeares.Silas finds with out the next morning when she doesn’t show up for school and goes to her house and while arguing with her mother (who is a drunk) sees a letter addressed to her and takes it.   Reading it he finds out that THEY have written themselves a letter stating that “the waking up with no memories” has happened twice before that week and seems to happen every 48 hours. They put everything in the letter they have discovered about themselves and others so when it happens again they won’t haven’t to start from scratch.  It’s three minutes until the 48 hours is up and Silas is frantically writing things down that he and Charlie have found out in the last two days. The last thing he writes it that Charlie has disappeared and he has to find her.  The book ends.

TALK ABOUT A CLIFF HANGER.

Absolutely loved it.

She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either. They soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one.

A passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance, Maybe Someday will immerse readers in Sydney’s tumultuous world from the very first page.

Review –

I don’t know how the author, Colleen Hoover, does it, but most of her books are true tear-jerkers and this one is THAT, but it’s also heart-wrenching!

You feel for Sydney, knowing that Ridge has a sick girlfriend of five years that he says he will never leave  and always love, and you feel for Ridge, knowing that he does love Maggie with his whole heart and will never leave her but that feelings for Sydney are developing in a way he never thought possible. Their story is a roller coaster of emotions and I cried and cried and almost couldn’t stand it. The pain was so real.

I had the audio version and the narrators were top-notch and made Ridge and Sydney seem completely alive.

I loved this book and I won’t give away  the ONE element of the story that made it an even bigger tear-jerker because I want you to read it or listen to it. You won’t regret it.

(I think I need to check into buying some Kleenex stock!)

Losing Hope (Hopeless #2) by Colleen Hoover

Book Description:

Published: July 8, 2013

In Hopeless, Sky left no secret unearthed, no feeling unshared, and no memory forgotten, but Holder’s past remained a mystery.

Still haunted by the little girl he let walk away, Holder has spent his entire life searching for her in an attempt to finally rid himself of the crushing guilt he has felt for years. But he could not have anticipated that the moment they reconnect, even greater remorse would overwhelm him…

Sometimes in life, if we wish to move forward, we must first dig deep into our past and make amends. In Losing Hope, bestselling author Colleen Hoover reveals what was going on inside Holder’s head during all those hopeless moments—and whether he can gain the peace he desperately needs.

Review –

This is Holder’s story.

We see a lot of his past – it’s heart breaking and devastating but we live it with him. I went through everything with him. I felt his anger, his loss, his fears. When he fucked up, I cringed. When he was happy, my heart overflowed.

There were scenes that gave me  chills – from head to toe.  There were moments where I just closed my eyes and sat there sobbing, letting the emotions sink in, you know how I love tear-jerkers.

While so much of this book is just completely new, even the scenes that are the same as in Hopeless feel SO special when you read them because 1) they are just awesome scenes to relive period, and 2) the slightly different angle on them gives them just enough of a twist to make you fall in love with them all over again.

This book has it all -pain, devastation, love, loss, hope and closure.

Great series.

Review –

Five stars *****

Silly me I read the last two books in the Hopeless Series before I realized it was a series so I had to go back and read the first one and OMG what a difference  the meaning takes on.

Hope’s father physically abused her as a child after her mother died and the only brightness in her life were her friends that lived next door. The boy was a bit older and the girl younger. Hope was a sad child and one day a car pulled up outside her house when she was crying and a woman called her name and she went and got into the car. Being very young she believed everything the woman told her, that she would live with her now and never had to see her father again.

Years later Holder (first name Dean-but he doesn’t go by that now) saw a girl in line at a grocery store and thought she was Hope. It had been thirteen years since Hope disappeared and he’d looked for her ever since. This girl said her name was Sky but still Holder shake the feeling that she was Hope. They become friends(loosely at least) and one day when he sees her wearing a certain bracelet he KNEW she was Hope. The rest of the story deals with their blossoming relationship and his helping her cope with the truth.

I won’t give anything away (because if you’re a fan of YA you really need to read this) but suffice it to say that there are many twists and turns and many tears are shed before the HEA.  I loved it and cried, of course, at all the right parts.

Book Description:

Published: March 10, 2015

Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.

The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

Review –

OMG !!!!! (If you know anything about this book you’ll know why this exclamation is special)

Five stars *****

Once I started listening to this book (there was a male narrator for Owen’s part and a female for Auburn’s point of view) I couldn’t stop. It’s not a really long book to listen to-only about seven hours-but every time I had time I listened and then I forgot about other daily routine things and just listened. It’s that good.

Auburn lose’s the love of her life, Adam, through illness at the age of fifteen and has a baby out of the relationship at sixteen. Her parents wanted her to give the baby up for adoption but instead Adam’s mother have custody of the little boy and she would live with her while finishing school. But as years go by Auburn is just in a back seat position when it comes to raising AJ.

She loves to Dallas after graduating from Cosmetology School because that’s where Lydia lives with AJ and her son Trey.

She passes an art studio and sees a HELP WANTED sign and meets Owen Gentry, the artist, who is in dire need of someone to attend to the sale of his paintings at that nights showing. Owen and Auburn hit it off right away, but Owen has a secret or confession that he never plans to tell Auburn. It’s about how he knows her from before and where they met and more.

I don’t want to give anything away but suffice it to say Owen and Auburn are made for each other but things uncontrollable by both  will get in the way and cause pain for both of them. Neither can deny the feelings they have when together and Auburn knows that because of Owen’s arrest record she would have trouble getting custody of AJ so she agrees to “date” Trey, Adam’s brother, even though she has no real feelings for him. Trey is abusive, verbally and physically and something he does and has done in the past allows Auburn to get custody away from Lydia and lets him keep his job as a policeman. She and Owen re-unite and then in Owen’s words we learn the story of where and  how he met Auburn and by that time tears were rolling down my cheeks and I was sobbing. I love it when that happens.

Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover

Book Description:

Published: November 14, 2013

A chance encounter in the dark leads eighteen-year-old Daniel and the girl who stumbles across him to profess their love for each other. But this love comes with conditions: they agree it will only last one hour and it will only be make-believe.

When their hour is up and the girl rushes off like Cinderella, Daniel tries to convince himself that what happened between them only seemed perfect because they were pretending it was perfect. Moments like that with girls like her don’t happen outside of fairytales.

One year and one bad relationship later, his disbelief in insta-love is stripped away the day he meets Six: a girl with a strange name and an even stranger personality. Daniel soon realizes the way he pretended to feel about Cinderella and the way he really feels about Six may not be so different after all. Especially when the two loves of his life end up being one in the same.

Unfortunately for Daniel, finding Cinderella doesn’t guarantee their happily ever after…it only further threatens it.

Review –

I rated this book five stars *****    because once I started listening I couldn’t stop and the chemistry between the nameless boy and girl in the school maintenance closet was so intense especially on their last day together.  A year passes.

THEN Daniel meets Six (love the name) and he falls instantly and she does too. Their talks back and forth are so cute and  it made me remember the  shyness involved in early relationships in school and college. There is nothing sweeter than the innocence of a first relationship and it really comes across in this book.

Of course, when Daniel discovers that Six is his Cinderella from the broom closet he thinks she will be as thrilled as he is, but she is horribly wounded by the information and can’t even look him in the face.  I will not tell you the secret she has kept since Italy but suffice it to say to it takes time for both Six and Daniel to come to the realization that they are better together than apart.

This is a story about best friends, young love, secrets, and relationships between boys and girls, children and parents and I loved it and cried (of course) at just  the right times.  Loved this book.

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Book Description:

Published: August 5, 2014

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.

Love gets ugly.

Review –

I started this book about 7pm and stayed up until 1:30 am to finish it.  I could not put it down because I was so drawn in at the very beginning.

This is the story of Tate and Miles and the chapters alternate with her telling  in the present and his telling six years in the past.  Miles is a very tortured soul and we don’t find out why until almost the end and it is heart wrenching. He is complete dead inside and feels he can never love again. Tate is immediately drawn to Miles and thinks she can make him love her. But he want only sex and she agrees to that just to be with him.  Well, we all know that kind of arrangement never works and so Miles and Tate part badly a few times and you feel for both of them. Finally Tate tells him that he either gives her more or she’s done with their arrangement.  Miles stays away as long as he can but inside he knows he does love her but must make a break from his past first.  By the time I came to the end I was bawling like a baby. I loved this book and highly recommend it if you enjoy tragic love stories and are not offended by explicit sex.

I rated it 5 stars *****

I just found out that this book is being made into a movie in 2016. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ugly-love-the-movie#/story
