Sweet Addiction (Sweet #6) by Maya Banks

He awakened a need within her…

Cole is successful beyond his dreams. He can have any woman he wants, but there’s only one he can’t stop thinking about. His childhood sweetheart, Renita. He’s never forgotten his first taste of innocent love and the desire that consumed them—or the pain he brought upon her…

But now she belongs to another…

Her long ago brush with submission awakened a longing in Ren that drove her to walk the darker edge of desire. She’s become a beautiful woman at ease with her sexuality and unapologetic about her need for a dominant man. When Cole finds her again, he’s gutted that she belongs to another. Ren’s current master agrees to give her to Cole for a short time, but then she must return to his keeping. And though Cole agrees to this bargain, he knows he will never be able to let Ren go again…

Review –

When I started Sweet Addiction I had only read the first and third book in this series. I totally planned read all of them, but it will never be in order and that frustrates me since I am a go in the order kind of reader.

This book is not for the faint of heart. It deals with some tough issues, one of which is a love triangle. Ren is at the center of this triangle. Early in her life she met and fell in love with Cole. He waited patiently for her to grow up to a mature age, but she never doubted he was the dominate man she craved. They experimented with BDSM, but they were both young and inexperienced. When Cole hurts Ren in an accident, Ren forgives him knowing he didn’t intentionally injure her, but Cole can’t forgive himself and leaves her. Broken hearted, both moved on with their lives.

We first learn  about Lucas, Ren’s Dom and lover. Owning nightclubs, he is well off and can afford to accommodate his passions. He takes on subs and is loyal and honest with them during their relationship, but they never last forever. He is also known to like to watch other men take his subs, something he has not done with Ren yet. The couple has a very brutally honest relationship built on trust, but neither one realized they had fallen in love, nor admitted it to each other.

When Cole comes back into Ren’s life, her world is turned upside down. He wants her back, but she has moved on. Lucas realizes he loves her and wants to keep her, but to do so she must move on from her past. So Lucas gives Ren to Cole for two weeks at which point he wants Ren back for her to make her decision. What I didn’t like is he never once explains this to Ren. Ren goes into believing she is just being shared with Cole for one night and her trust is severely pushed when Lucas just leaves. I was actually angry at this part of the book at both men, but also at Ren for being so accepting to what ever happened. Sub doesn’t mean doormat!

Next we find out more about Cole. We get to see that he has never found anyone to satisfy him like Ren. Anyone who came close was already claimed by someone else. He works for Damon’s (Book #2 is Damon’s) sex club getting subs ready. This isn’t his day job by any stretch. He also successful in real estate and investments. He views this time as his to win Ren back, doing everything he can to show her he won’t leave again.

Finally, we learn about Ren. She has a decision to make, but there are things that take that decision away. She’s in love with both but really can she have either? Honestly, I am not really sure I like Ren for most of the book. I liked her honesty, recognizing her need for dominance, for pursuing her career, but I felt she got run over by these men and lost her own personality in the mix.

The end was probably the best way to end the book, but I didn’t care for it. Again the guys do something to her and don’t bother to explain it. I know Dom’s don’t need to ask, but when you are dealing with an emotional situation with a sub, you need to be upfront and honest instead of planning a scene to explain it.

This is a darker look at BDSM than what I have seen from Maya Banks before. I by far haven’t read all of her books, but the ones I have are a little lighter. There are menages, anal, spankings, bondage, and more in this book. It is deep. I loved the two heros of the book except for their two slip ups. They were Dominant, but they also read the sub and knew what she wanted and needed. But I found Ren to be to compliant to everything. She didn’t have to be bratty to have a personality, but I didn’t see one from her as much.

The book is extremely steamy with some incredibly hot  sex scenes. Many layers to each scene both in the bedroom and out. This deals with lost love, new love and the time to heal between.

Jason (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #23) by Laurell K. Hamilton

Book Description:

Published: December 2, 2014

Format: Audio/OverDrive/Second Reading

“Enjoying pain with your pleasure is something you either get, or you don’t. If you get it, then you don’t really need it explained, because you know how good it feels, and if you don’t get it then no amount of talking is going to convince you it makes sense.”

But sometimes you have to explain the unexplainable, especially if the love of your life needs to understand, or she’ll leave you. Jason Schuyler is one of Anita Blake’s best friends and favorite werewolves, with benefits. J.J. is his lady love, an old flame from childhood who dances at one of the top ballet companies in New York. She’s accomplished, beautiful, and she’s crazy about him, too. Neither of them wants to be monogamous, so what could go wrong?

J.J. is enthusiastically bisexual, with an emphasis on the female side of things. She plans to keep sleeping with women, because Jason can’t meet that need, just like she can’t meet Jason’s need for rough sex and bondage. J.J. doesn’t understand why Jason isn’t content to go elsewhere for a need she can’t fulfil, so Jason asks Anita to help him explain.

Anita is having her own relationship growing pains with her only female lover ever, Jade. Jason suggests that J.J. might be able to help Anita with her girl problem, while she helps him with his kinky explanations. With some encouragement from a few other lovers in Anita’s life she reluctantly agrees, and J. J. makes plans to fly into town for an experience that none of them will ever forget.

Review –

I started the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series at number fifteen and have read all but the most recent. That being said, when Jason, which is number twenty-three, became available on OverDrive it sounded very familiar so I checked and I had read it in January of 2015 and gave it three stars for a lack of a real plot and the over abundance of sex. I thought, what the heck, and decided to LISTEN to it this time and I gave it four stars for the same reasons, but I did  enjoy it more this time.

Like I said, there is no real plot other than showing, through example, the amount of roughness during sex a were animal,(I forget if he was a werewolf, wereleopard, or weretiger) NEEDED during sex.  There is bondage,FFF, FF, MFFF,MFMF,  and a lot of other stuff included. It is NOT for the faint of heart.

I’m going  to start looking for the early books in the series so I can re-acquaint myself with how Anita Blake came to be all she is in Jason.

For anyone wanting to start this series I would definitely start at the beginning and not in the middle like I did.

Love that strong has extraordinary power.

Review –

Another great installment of the Brie’s Submission series and  centered around Tono (Master) Ten Nosaka, the Dominant that had it not been for the verbal misgivings of his father, Brie would have chosen to be HER Dominant. As it happened, because of that she chose Master Thane Davis, whom in her heart of hearts, she always wanted, but never thought she could have.

Tono takes over Brie’s care after Master Brad Anderson has broken his leg and his quiet nature and peaceful calm has a positive effect on Brie and she begins working again on her second documentary.

The crazy half-sister, Lily, makes another appearance in his book but still escapes capture.

Tono had begun a semi-relationship with Autumn Day in Denver before he left and he concentrates on getting her to accept him wholly, mentally and physically. He discovers that besides her scars and prosthetic, she is also a virgin and realizes he has to be extremely patent with her.

Everything works out in the end and he is able to go back to Autumn in Denver as Rystar Durov, the Russian and blood brother to Sir, comes to care for Brie.

Excellent installment of this series.

*This boxed set includes Teach Me, Love Me and Catch Mefrom the Brie’s Submission Series.

Review –

This set of three books in the Brie’s Submission series was free, but I knew shortly into the first book that I would definitely  be buying the others.

I only know what I know from reading about the BDSM life style but it fascinates me and I find that books involving D/s storylines are my favorite kind of erotic/contemporary romances.

That’s why I love this series. These three books take Brie through her 6 week training at a famous school for submissives. Six weeks doesn’t sound very long for all the instruction involved BUT the class hours were long and the practice sessions demanding. Without knowing any better the depiction seems very believable.

Brie is a young woman who feels like she’s missing something from her life but can’t pinpoint what exactly until a man comes in the tobacco shop and leaves a card to a Submissive Training Center for her. Her curiosity piqued, she enrolls in the course, unwilling to fail since she feels it to be her calling, needing to learn things she never expected to not know. With each new week, Brie and the other subs are put through various scenes to push their limits and dedication, to see who will graduate at the top of their class.

Brie goes through so many trials, even faces her deepest fears and prejudice, in ways she never saw coming. So many themes are discussed throughout this box set- menage, lesbianism, anal, DP, submission, and much more, putting into words some of the many aspects of what a D/s relationship is. I did wonder if these types of schools exist since they sound intriguing, and yet as much as Brie grew with all the teachings, I can only imagine the heartbreak at having to choose between her suitors to be the one to collar her.

There is jus t so much in thees books the it would be impossible to relate it all, just know that at graduation Brie chooses to be collared and the Master she picks turn her down – AT FIRST.

I’ve already started reading books four through six of this series and can’t wait to find out what happens between Brie and her Master.

She didn’t know what she wanted…

Morgan O’Malley has seen a lot of kinky things as the hostess of a cable sex talk show. But she’s never met a man like Jack Cole before. A self-proclaimed dominant, he’s as alpha as a male can get—and good for Morgan to have around when an obsessed stalker ratchets up his attempts to get to her.

Until he made her beg for it.

Though Jack is a bodyguard, Morgan feels anything but safe in his presence because, slowly and seductively, Jack is bringing her deepest fantasies to the surface. And when he bends her to his will, what’s more shocking than her surrender is how much she enjoys it—and starts to crave his masterful touch. A willing player in Jack’s games, Morgan knows that his motives aren’t pure, but she has no idea how personal they are…

Review –

I love this series even though I’m not necessarily reading them in the proper order. When I find one, I grab it.

I love the characters, Morgan and Jack and  the sexual tension between them is edgy and sensual. The plot is intriguing, as are the secondary characters.

Morgan O’Malley has a stalker. She needs protection and only bodyguard Jack Cole can offer it. And as they find themselves sharing a small house while hiding out, their attraction for each other becomes impossible to control.

But Jack doesn’t want just a lover, he wants Morgan’s submission, total and complete. He wants to be the one to see to her needs and to her pleasure, to have her complete trust. How can Morgan admit to him, or to herself, that she can do this? That she wants it, even needs it?

Jack brings out desires in her she didn’t know where hidden, and will test her and bring her to heights she never even thought possible.

Jack more or less pushes his wicked lifestyle onto Morgan and used whatever it took, sex toys, bondage, etc. to get her there. He was forceful and never gave up and did I mention, he is French cajun? (swoon) Jack’s accent alone will have you melting at his feet! He doesn’t make excuses for what he wants but he  does have hidden intentions, and when he finally figures out he has true feelings for Morgan, nothing will keep him from her.

The sexual chemistry between them is HOT and the story does have a  HEA, although it takes a bit of time to get there.

Loved it!!

Little Black Dress by James Patterson and Emily Raymond

Book Description:

Published: July 28, 2016

Format: Audio/OverDrive

Can a little black dress change everything in her life?

Magazine editor Jane Avery spends her nights alone with Netflix and Oreos – until the Dress turns her loose. Suddenly she’s surrendering to dark desires, and New York City has become her erotic playground. But what began as a fantasy will go too far… and her next conquest could be her last.

Review –

In this BookShot, James Patterson ventures outside the genres for which he is known, waltzing onto a more romance/erotica pathway.

Jane Avery is living the typical a thirty-five  year old divorcée life, at least in her eyes; a slave to her work whose social time is filled with cookies and binge watching television. When she purchases a dress, black and slinky in nature, she finds herself filled with new confidence. While the dress does not possess any magical power, per se, Avery is pulled into a level of confidence she lacked up to that point. This confidence is primarily that of no strings attached sexual encounters with men, most of whom she has never met and all of whom will not get a second chance to unzip her.  Avery’s confidence reaches a climactic point when she visits a sex club and finds herself drawn to a man whose intrigue matches his prowess. However, after taking him back to her apartment, which she has vowed to never do, she finds that she may have bitten off more than she can chew.

When she doesn’t show up for work the next day, her sister goes to her apartment and with the help of the landlord, gains entry and finds Jane, naked and handcuffed to a radiator.

Jane rethinks the her behavior and decides that from now on she will be more careful.   END.

It was a pleasant read but I thought the ending could have been better.

Review –

When Hannah steps into Door Four she is dressed in maids uniform of sorts and is the “new girl” in the Killian household, Yes, KILLIAN. Same name but in this door he plays an entirely different kind of man. A stern, controlling, and I believe a sexual sadist. He is hosting a poker game with ten men counting Killian and tonight they will not be playing for money. Instead, it will be strip poker but only Hannah will be losing her clothes and the man winning the hand will own that piece of clothing. The night progresses as you may expect with the drunk men groping her breasts and bare thighs. Killian never touches her. The night ends with Charlie (the blonde drifter from door three) winning the final hand.

The next night is another poker game but this time Hannah is for all intents and purposes naked and tied to a chair. When a man wins a hand he is allowed to do anything he can to her with his tongue and hands. We have it all,  Anal play, Light Bondage, F/F Scene, Oral Delight, Squirting, Stripping and Voyeurism. I’m no prude but it was a bit much. Only Killian, when he wins the final hand has actual intercourse with Hannah and the next morning tells her that she has to go. She opens the door and looks back at Killian, wishing she could stay but knowing she can’t.

Back in the BLACK ROOM she doesn’t hesitate to go to the next door hoping she will find Killian again. Door five has a huge lions head door knocker in the middle of the door and she has to pull on the ring. It takes both hands to pull it and slides open on silent hinges.

She’s now in a courtyard with archways and cobblestones and a huge castle in the distance. Once at the castle, guards tell her that “He’s expecting you” so she ascends more stairs and finds Killian on a throne like chair dressed all in white and he tells her she is a prize that he won in a battle and to tell him why he should keep her.  Cliffhanger.

Here is what the author, herself, had to say about this series:

Dear WILDer Readers,

I need to tell you a little story about this series. This is like nothing I’ve published before. It might even be like nothing you’ve ever read before. In fact, it’s so different that I’ve gone back and forth about even publishing it at all for about a year. At one point I did even publish a part and then took it down; yes, it has the potential to be that controversial. Encouraged by my amazing WILD WITH WILDER Facebook reader group, I’ve gained the courage to hit “publish.”

It all started with a conversation with a friend about sexual fantasies, I’m going to call her Jade…Jade London. In talking with her, this story popped into my head inspired by a few of her fantasies and experiences. So just for fun, I started writing THE BLACK ROOM. Now, these stories are told in the voice I had in my head of my friend Jade, so you will notice it might be different from my other work and she is also credited as an author, since she was the inspiration for it. Yes, this series is very explicit, enough so that I would call it more like erotica/suspense with an erotic romance theme. If you have been offended by scenes in Madame X, Alpha, or Stripped I will tell you it’s probably best to skip this series all together. The sex scenes in these books are beyond even my hottest level.

You’ve been warned.

The layout and pricing of this series is also a bit unusual. I really wanted the reader to have to “enter” each door, I wanted you to have to take that step to enter the next room. So, artistically, I knew that having them stand alone as 8 separate doors was important. I also wanted to keep the pricing in line with my other books, and the only way that really made sense for me to do that was to make doors 1, 3, 5 and 7 free. Yes, I realize there are people that might take advantage of that and just skip the other doors. But, if you really want to have a unique and powerful reading experience I suggest reading all of them in order. I am publishing all 8 novellas at once because each one does create a bit of a cliffy, and I didn’t want to leave you hanging.

This series is over 800 pages in my usual print format at nearly 200,000 words, so we made the print edition larger, like my BIG GIRLS omnibus, so we could get it all in if you wanted the full collection in print. I’ll be sure to link that below. Shout out to Okay Creations and Champagne Formatting for a beautiful job on the print edition. It’s a piece of art.

I really do hope that you will take this journey with me into THE BLACK ROOM. It’s a story of a woman’s experiences in fantasies that I felt needed to be told. It’s erotic, emotional, and raw.

In Door One we, the readers, don’t know how the woman became to be in the BLACK ROOM, but neither does she. She can’t remember anything: her name, what she does, how she got there or if she really exists.

In the BLACK ROOM there is a cot and a small side table with a candle that provides the only light. Around the large expanse of the room are eight doors and when she walks through number one (and she feel compelled to do so) she sees a large muscled fighter with a broken nose and scars all over his body.  He binds her with ropes and suspends her from the ceiling and eventually, after a lot of bondage foreplay, they have very rough sex and then he tells her  to  leave because she shouldn’t be there. She doesn’t want to go but knows she has to.

When she arrives back in the BLACK ROOM there are only seven doors, door one has disappeared .(How’s that for eerie?)

Review –
This also was offered as a free audiobook and as you know, I’m a sucker for a free book. This one was most interesting as it is ALMOST identical to FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY except with a bit of softness thrown in. With that said-the story was okay but once you’ve read the FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY series what else is there to say. Enough already.
