The Coldest Girl In Coldtown by Holly Black

Book Description

Tana lives in a world where walled cities calledColdtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in adecadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass throughColdtown’s gates, you can never leave.

One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from bestselling and acclaimed author Holly Black.
Review –
Even though this book was written as a stand-alone, I wish the author, Holly Black, would consider writing a sequel. (It is sooo good)
Though this is “another” vampire story, it is unlike any you may have read so far. There are Coldtowns across the country to keep vampires and those infected with vampirism separate from the rest of the population. Sounds simple, but those aren’t the only people drawn to a Coldtown. Those who, for no other reason than they just want to be a vampire, arrive daily with the hopes of being turned into a vampire and live forever. They soon find out that it’s not that simple and Coldtown is not as it is depicted in the media.
My favorite character is Gavriel, who is a very old vampire and is saved by Tana in the beginning  and together(plus others) go to a Coldtown.  Besides being blood thirty he is a romantic and has a wonderful accent.(I had the audio version).
If you’re looking forward an unusual vampire story – this is the one for you.
I rated it 5 stars *****
