Gentleman Nine by Penelope Ward

Format: Audio/OverDrive

Growing up, the three of us were friends.
He was the nerd.
I was the playboy.
She was the beauty.

Deep down, I only ever wanted her. I kept it inside because Rory and I made a pact that our friend, Amber, was off-limits.

He lied.

I went off to college, and he got the girl.
Amber never knew how I felt.
They were together for years—before he broke her heart.

Through it all and across the miles, she and I casually stayed in touch.
When my job sent me to Boston for a three-month contract position, Amber let me stay in her spare room.

Still reeling from her breakup, she’d sworn off men.
One night, I opened her computer to find the shock of my life. She’d hesitantly contacted a male escort company. Afraid to date and get her heart-broken again, she was looking for sex with no strings.

Every emotion imaginable ran through me: protectiveness, jealousy—curiosity.
Amber had chosen Gentleman Number Nine and sent him a message.
She opened up to him, confessing, among other things, her physical attraction to her friend—me. But she considered me off-limits—and she thought I was a manwhore. (Ironic, considering the circumstances.)

Eventually, she set up a date to meet Gentleman Nine at a hotel.
When she showed up several nights later to meet him, she was stunned to see me standing there—with an offer I hoped she wouldn’t refuse.

Review –

Channing and Amber were drawn to each after Channing’s younger sister and Amber’s best friend passed away, and they shared a deep connection and steadfast friendship. They were attracted to each, but neither allowed themselves to admit their feelings. Amber ended up in a long-term relationship with Rory, of Channing’s good friends, reinforcing his feelings that any kind of romantic relationship with her is off limits.

When Gentleman Nine begins, Amber’s relationship has just ended, and she is devastated and heartbroken. Channing is in town for business and staying at her house, and they rekindle their friendship, but they can no longer ignore the chemistry that is sizzling between them. Oh, they try to pretend it’s not there. Amber even contacts an escort agency in order to release some of her sexual frustration with a no-strings affair, but Channing discovers her intentions and offers to fill the position.

They agree to no-romance, sex only, no commitments, with the intention to keep their hearts safe. Easier said than done, because they both discover that their physical connection deepens their emotional connection. They’re falling for each other hard when neither expected it.

Amber and Channing’s feelings slowly build, and the meticulous unfurling of their love story pulls the reader in and keeps them captivated and anxious for the HEA. There’s an unexpected twist that is common in the writings of Penelope Ward and it adds depth to the story. Gentleman Nine is an engaging, tender and steamy friends-to-lovers romance with memorable characters and a truly unique story.

Loved it!   Just added Channing Lord to my Book Boyfriend list.

WHAT A FUN BOOK!!

I listened to this sexy, light-hearted romance in one sitting and it kept me laughing, swooning, and chuckling the whole way through! The writing was witty and addictive, the characters were compelling and endearing, the romance was hot, and the whole book was a joy to read!

So the story starts when an unexpected – but memorably hot kiss – with a complete stranger at an overly stuffy engagement party led to the flu from hell, the worst audition of Ruby’s life, and thusly no way to pay her rent. At that point, with her options closing, she was sure things couldn’t possibly go more wrong…

But when a second encounter with said same sexy stranger led to a further unexpected offer to babysit his exotic pets (a ferret and a big furry tarantula) while he was away on business for five weeks, it took her life down a path she couldn’t have expected… including the undeniable sexual tension between her and the no-longer-stranger who, despite his flu-related transgressions, was quickly becoming her uncouth white knight. During his trip away they would Face Time every day or night and eat dinner/or whatever meal was appropriate and drink wine or whatever. Sexual innuendoes increased with every passing day.

Both Ruby and Bancroft came from wealthy families, but while she was trying to distance herself from that world and family by making her own way without their help or involvement, he was still involved in his family’s company after retiring(because of an injury-not because he wanted to)from a career of professional rugby. Usually someone within her family’s world wouldn’t appeal to her, but his down to earth attitude towards life drew her in. And the same could be said for how he saw her. She was a breath of fresh air in his life — unprimped, uninterested in money, and not out to impress anyone, all she cared about was standing on her own two feet. His whole life had been filled with women throwing themselves at him but despite his sports star status and being such an eligible bachelor, in his own words, he “didn’t leave a trail of fucked fans across the globe” so I really appreciated that he had every opportunity to be a manwhore, and yet he wasn’t.

Despite being oceans apart for the first part of the book, I was pleasantly surprised that Ruby and Bancroft still shared sizzling chemistry, which of course led to the next big question. What would happen when he got home? Would they take their flirtations to the next level? Or part ways for good? HA! This is a romance so of course they take things to the next level… OMG the hotness!!!!

Five stars.

If you’re a fan of romantic comedies,(as you know I usually am NOT) then this is definitely a book you’ll want to read or listen to. (The narrators are fantastic) It’s well written, fun, sexy, steamy hot and has a hero and heroine I couldn’t help but fall in love with.

Sexy Stranger by Kendall Ryan

Format: Audio/Audible

Luke Wilder knows the lovely stranger doesn’t belong the second she struts into his sleepy little town. She’s a city girl who won’t stay longer than it takes to get her fancy foreign car repaired–which is why he should ignore his powerful need to make her notice him. It’s just that the moment she opens her smart mouth and gives it back as good as she gets, he wants to swap a whole lot more with her than insults.

Charlotte Freemont instantly dislikes the rude, redneck stranger she finds herself stuck with. Too bad he’s as hot, and as tempting, as sin. On the run from her messy past, she’s not there to get tangled up with a man, even one as hard to resist as the hot-headed Luke. But when he gives her a private tour of his craft whiskey distillery, their attraction ignites and Luke seizes the chance to show her there’s a whole lot more to him than rough and rugged.

When he finally learns her secret, will it shatter his trust in her? Or do they have a chance to create a whole new blend?

A sizzling, enemies-to-lovers romp with bite.

Review –

Loved this book, which I put in the category of “soft smut” because the sex in the plot line was appropriate and not overly done and “in your face”.

The story itself is not new, hot girl running away from her problems, ends up with her car broken down somewhere in the southwest(this time in Texas). She meets a hot, hunky, rugged man and they clash, until they don’t and they live happily ever after.

Loved it and love Kendall Ryan.

Wanderlust by Lauren Blakely

Book Description:

Format: Audio/OverDrive

The first time I met him, his sexy British accent almost talked me into giving him my number on the spot. The second time, he nearly charmed the panties off me with his wit. Then I learned he’s the key to success in my new job in Paris. The man who tempts me into fling-worthy dirty daydreams has turned out to be my personal translator, and his accent is the hottest thing I’ve ever heard.
My mantra is simple — Don’t mix business with pleasure. I do my best to resist him as he teaches me how to converse with my co-workers, navigate the metro and order the perfect bottle of wine at dinner. But I also figure out how to tell the charming and clever man what I most want to say — that I want him to take me back to his flat — tonight.
Except there’s a catch…

One more assignment before I take off on my big adventure…

And it involves the toughest work ever — resisting the fetching American woman I spend all my days with. But you know what they say about best intentions. Soon, we’re spending our nights tangled together, and I don’t want to let her go. The trouble is, my wanderlust is calling to me, and before we know it I’ll be traveling the globe to fulfill a promise I made long ago.

What could possibly go wrong with falling in love in Paris? Nothing…unless one of you is leaving.

Review –

To date, this is for sure my all time favorite Lauren Blakely read….I listened to the audio version  and I have to say, I think this is the route to take!

Richard Armitage…this man could read me the telephone book and I would swoon like those cartoon characters with hearts popping out of their eyes and heart thumping like mad, and Grace Grant is great too.

Joy and Griffin had electrical chemistry from their first meeting and the sexual tension between them was perfectly captured by the author.

She (the author) gives the reader a colorful walk through the typical Paris tourist spots but also the quirky, off the beaten path track too. Through her vivid descriptions the reader feels  they ARE there with Joy and Griffin enjoying the chocolate, the angels and the scents of all the beautiful flowers and gardens.

I laughed, ached for a Brit of my own and cried (big ugly tears), all in all the book was PERFECT and I gave it five stars.

Don’t let this one pass you by – it’s life altering, in a good way.

Her Russian Returns (Brie’s Submission #15) by Red Phoenix

Rytsar Durov should be dead.

But in the BDSM world, loyalties run as deep as kinky passions.
Sir Thane Davis is determined to save his Russian brother, but must call on his friends at the Center to execute the plan.
Clinging to hope, Brie trusts she will see Rytsar again.

There is a promise he must keep…

Review –

Her Russian Returns is number fifteen  in the Brie’s Submission series, they cannot be read out-of-order or as a standalone. However, you can start the series with Teach Me.

Anton Rytsar is our main man in this book, and we follow his journey out of kidnapping, through the beginning of his healing and it set the scene for more action packed drama coming in book number sixteen, In Sir’s Arms, (which I am leaving for a while because the series ends there until the author writes another and I can not bear for this to be the end, even if for a short time)
Although the book did jump from past and present and it wasn’t clear at times where we were, it was a great read and I can’t wait to listen to the next one.

Cocky Bastard by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland

Book Description:

Published: August 4, 2015

Format: Audio/Audible

He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska.

A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive.

When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours.

My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense.

I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back.

I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Review –

In movies, I don’t like comedies and in books I don’t like a lot of humor, but the sarcastic banter and sexually charged humor  between Chance and Aubrey was priceless. Chance is everything. EV-ER-Y-THING!!!!! He’s an ex sports star, hot as heck, sexy and silly, and a real guy, despite his seeming perfection. And best of all? He’s a true hero, but not that glorious, super-hero type. Chance makes mistakes. Big ones, even. But OMG when he tries to redeem himself, and when we find out the whys of who he is… I’m just TOTALLY JEALOUS of Aubrey.

A road trip, a stop off in Vegas, a hot Aussie, a fainting goat and an uptight chick, all prove to be key ingredients to make for a purely entertaining read! The main words that come to mind are fun, flirty, witty and sexy… but as light as it appears, the book still had an undertone of something more serious. I could not help but love this storyline and don’t even get me started on my love for the cocky bastard himself, Chance Bateman. That boy is seriously hot and swoon worthy. He is way more than meets the eye! Besides being ridiculously hot, he has a heart of gold. Audrey Bloom starts off rigid and cold, but just being around Chance loosens her up! You quickly begin to love her. The true break out star of the book is a goat named, Mutton, Esmeralda snowflake, Pixy. Just his many names have you laughing! He stole the show in all his scenes….

As soon as Chance and Aubrey meet it is fireworks, sarcasm and hysterical banter! Their chemistry jumped off the pages. Chance is one smooth operator that is impossible to resist. Aubrey is a little feisty thing that keeps Chance on his toes. They are both wonderful characters, but put them together and it’s positively captivating. There are two very different parts to this book. The first half is in Aubrey’s POV. It’s light hearted, playful and steamy. The second part, changes gears and is in Chance’s POV. It turns serious and that’s when our hearts get involved. It’s the type of book that if you have the time, you will read in one sitting. It is that great!!

Sheer Submission (Sheer Submission Part One) by Hannah Ford

Book Description:

Published: January, 2018

Format: E-Book

Stay away from her.

The words burned against my brain, searing hot. Then another thought, more dangerous than the first.

Tie her wrists, brand her, teach her.

She was wearing a dress that was a size too small, and I knew immediately she didn’t have a boyfriend waiting for her at home, because no man would have let her out of the house in that.

The dress was red. Short. A sweetheart neckline that was supposed to make her look innocent, but did nothing except push her full curves up and over the material. Her hair was dirty blond and long, tousled around her shoulders.

She was sipping a glass of champagne and looking around nervously, her wide eyes flicking from person to person at the party, as if she were afraid she was going to get caught.

What have you done, bad girl? Something you should be punished for?

My palm burned as I imagined taking her over my knee, that short little dress pushed up, the place between her legs pulsing.

The feeling of desire I had looking at her was like an electric shock to my soul.

My instincts said to leave her alone, that this would end in nothing but tragedy. My instincts had always served me well in the past.

But this time, I decided to ignore them.

An innocent girl.

A ruthless man.

An inevitable, sordid devastation…

Review –

Though the storyline has been overly used, especially when dealing with “Billionaire Dominants in Business”, Hannah Ford was able to draw me in because of the secrets being held by Landon Sheer. He is so much more than he is portraying and little by little I’m sure all of them will become known to the readers.

Landon spots Aven at one of his office party business functions and knows she doesn’t belong there. Aven and her friend have crashed the party so she can ask Landon Sheer to help find her sister, Violet, who has disappeared. Aven believes Violet is with Landon’s brother but doesn’t know how to locate him.

Landon tells her he will help IF she will give into him, sexually, and she agrees UNTIL she sees the dark blue scarf with the “V” initial on it behind Landon’s bed. At that point she gathers up her clothes and leaves the hotel and walks home.

This was the end of the first book (if you can call 45 pages a book) so I purchased the second in the series, Sheer Torment, which I will comment on later.

Be warned that there are a LOT of typos and misspelled words but for 45 pages I overlooked it although it was bothersome.

You know how I am with covers and this one looks GOOD until you learn that Landon Sheer is a clean-shaven man. Just saying!

Twist (Dive Bar #2) by Kylie Scott

Book Description:

Published: April 11, 2017

Format: Audio/Audible

When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot, bearded, bartender extraordinaire, Joe Collins, only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.

Alex Parks is funny, friendly, and pretty much everything he’s been looking for in a woman. And in no time at all they’re emailing up a storm, telling each other their deepest darkest secrets… apart from the one that really matters.

And when it comes to love, serving it straight up works better than with a twist.

Review –

Kylie Scott breathed new life into a plot centered around meeting online and mistaken identity and it had everything to do with Alex and Joe’s respective personalities. Joe is a classic good guy and he was very swoon-worthy. A guy other than Joe likely would not have tried so hard to make things up to Alex after she discovered he was the Eric she’d been emailing all along. While they slowly settle into friendship, it is clear they have a lot to learn from each other.

Whereas Joe says yes to everyone in his life, setting up more than a couple codependent relationships, Alex says no to everyone, functioning more like a hermit. We’re at our healthiest when we’re somewhere between those two extremes. Joe proposes Alex gets out of her comfort zone by saying yes to things and he’ll learn to set boundaries by saying no.

I love the humor the author combines with sexual chemistry/tension and for me it makes the story much more believable and enjoyable.

There are ups and down in their relationship and one twist that I didn’t see coming (I love when that happens) and Alex is hurt badly but it all works out in the end.  Can’t wait for the third installment of the Dive Bar series, Chaser, which comes out in April.

Five stars.

Dirty Little Tease (Forbidden Desires #0) by Kendall Ryan

Book Description:

Published: September 4, 2017

Format: Free Digital Book

A lonely librarian desperate to experience the kind of passion she’s only read about in her favorite literary classics.

One handsome stranger with a tragic past.

A chance meeting that will change their course of their lives forever. . .

This is a first look at the much-anticipated Dirty Little Secret, by New York Times bestselling author Kendall Ryan.

Review –

The title is perfect – the story is short with just enough going on to make you want to purchase the next book in the series.

The story line is a bit cliché and the reader knows what’s going to happen and which brother is “the big bad wolf” and that there is much more to their tragic background than we are led to believe. That being said, you will not be able NOT to read it and purchase the next in the series. Great going Kendall Ryan. You got me!!!!

Dirty (Dive Bar #1) by Kylie Scott

Book Description:

Published: April 19, 2016

Format: Audio/OverDrive

The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that comes with her.

Lydia Green doesn’t know whether to burn down the church or sit and cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it’s with his best man is another thing all together. She narrowly escapes tying the knot and meets Vaughan only hours later.

Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessman she thought she’d marry. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and unsettled. But she already tried Mr. Right and discovered he’s all wrong-maybe it’s time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.

After all, what’s wrong with getting dirty?

Review –

The moment Vaughan finds Lydia (aka Runaway Bride) in a torn wedding gown and much of ample cleavage on display, in his bathtub, the steamy chemistry between them starts. They really have nothing in common, other than appreciation of the other’s body.

Vaughan is a failed musician who has come back from LA after ten years to his home town. Lydia has known her bridegroom to be for four months and minutes before the ceremony receives a video of him and the best man having sex. She bolts and climbs an 6-8 foot fence and see a small window open in a house next door. She climbs in, falling on her face and then Vaughan walks in.

They are “crazy at first sight” is how they describe what they have (crazy about each other) and the sex, well, it was mind-blowing. All of the sex scenes were very well done and not just sex for sex sake. Along with the hotness there is humor and that makes the story even more endearing.

Each of them say they are going to get on with their lives, Vaughan going back to LA to pursue music again and Lydia just getting on with her life having been humiliated in the press. Regardless, they fall for each other and even though things don’t go smoothly, there is a HEA and I must admit I shed a few tears.

Loved it and am looking forward to listening to Twist, the next in the Dive Bar series.
