Sinful Empire (Mount Trilogy #3) by Meghan March

Book Description:

Published: December 19, 2017

Format: E-Book/OverDrive

What’s mine, I keep, and that includes Keira Kilgore.
It’s no longer enough to have her in my debt. No longer enough to own her body.
I want something more.
She can try to resist, but I’ll never give her up.
Nothing will keep us apart.
Not her. Not my enemies. No one.
Her debt will only be paid one way—with her heart.

Review –

For two books we watched Mount and Keira fall for each other and fighting falling for each other. The attraction between them was as undeniable as their hot, steamy, lustful chemistry. With each new detail that we learn about Mount and his past, you fall harder for him, right along with Keira. Each tiny morsel that we’re given about the mysterious man just helped build the picture of the road he’s traveled to make him into who he is today.

The twists and turns kept coming until the very end. Just when you think you have things figured out, the author throws a twist into the mix that you never saw coming. And she definitely saved the best for last. Because that ending? PERFECT!

Sinful Empire was a high-octane page turner! A non-stop, action-packed and sexy ride that kept me riveted to the pages from beginning to end. It ended in much the same way it began, with a bang!

Loved this series!

I’m his entertainment. His toy. Payment on a debt.
I tell myself I hate him, but every time he walks into the room, my body betrays me. How can I want him and fear him in the same moment?
They told me he’d mess with my head. Make it go to war with my body.
But I didn’t realize it would be complete anarchy.
I should’ve known better. When Mount’s involved, there are no rules.
I will not surrender. I will not show weakness. I’ll stand my ground and make it out of this bargain with my heart and soul intact.
But he has other plans . . .

Review –

Mount, as we learned in the first book, is a ruthless criminal, but as this story unfolds we find out so much more about this man.  He’s had a shitty childhood, lived in foster homes where he’s had to protect others, as well as defend himself.  He’s learned early on how to survive in a city that has the ability to swallow you whole.

We see Mount start to soften when it comes to Kiera, his queen.  Which isn’t necessarily a good thing in his world.   He has a reputation to uphold, he needs folks to continue to fear him.  So what is it with this mouthy woman and her attitude that has him buckling to his knees?

Kiera keeps coming to Lachlan willingly.  There’s something about this man she can’t seem to say no to.  Not only is she drawn to him sexually, she’s starting to really like him.  Mount urges her to continue to be the be the best she can possibly be at running her whiskey distillery.  He really adores her and treats her well even though he commands her submission in the bedroom, and holy hell she has no problem at all with his orders when it comes to the sexy times.  But, once they calm down after all the mind-blowing, star seeing big fat orgasms, she’s back to her mouthy, defiant self.

I love The Mount series.  Lachlan is a hero you so badly want to hate,  but you just can’t help fall in love with this filthy talking, controlling asshole.  And don’t we all love a heroine who knows how to bring such man to his knees???

Now on to the end of the series, Sinful Empire.

Ruthless King (Mount Trilogy #1) by Meghan March

Format: E-Book/OverDrive

Get ready for the darker and dirtier side of New Orleans with a brand new alpha romance from USA Today bestselling author Meghan March.

New Orleans belongs to me.
You don’t know my name, but I control everything you see—and all the things you don’t.
My reach knows no bounds, and my demands are always met.
I didn’t need to loan money to a failing family distillery, but it amuses me to have them in my debt.
To have her in my debt.
She doesn’t know she caught my attention.
She should’ve been more careful.
I’m going to own her. Consume her. Maybe even keep her.
It’s time to collect what I’m owed.
Keira Kilgore, you’re now the property of Lachlan Mount.

Ruthless King is book 1 of the Mount Trilogy. Mount and Keira’s story is continued in Defiant Queen and ending with Sinful Empire.

Review –

Mount is the king of the New Orleans underground. Equally feared and respected, nothing happens without his knowledge or order. When Mount wants something, he gets it, and no one stands in his way.

Keira is still reeling from the unexpected death of her cheating husband and barely keeping her head afloat running her beloved family whiskey business. When big, bad Mount shows up at her door and tells her that she owes him a five hundred thousand dollar debt, she’s shocked. When he tells her that he’ll take her in exchange for the money her husband apparently loaned from Mount, she’s livid. But a debt is a debt, and you don’t say no to the most feared man in NOLA. And the fact that the man enrages her as much as he brings out all her primal urges? Definitely inconvenient.

Mount has such an utterly sexual presence to him, that you don’t just read about him, you feel it. March knows how to write one delicious alpha, but she seriously out did herself with this one. He’s cold, ruthless, dominant, and the sexiest anti-hero I’ve read.

I loved that Keira is the only one that has the balls to stand up to him. This is no cowering wallflower. This is a woman that gives as good as she gets. And let me tell you, she gets it HARD. She’s smart, head strong, and not afraid to tell the domineering man where to stuff it.  I am HOOKED. Line and sinker.t

If you’re a fan of sizzling romance with an anti-hero that’s to die for and a story that’s as captivating as the romance, this is a trilogy you need in your life!

Lawless (King #3) by T.M. Frazier

This is Henry, the bane of my existence and he isn’t feeling his best and has totally taken over my chair, so here I sit at my desk so I might as well work on a post.

Thia is prim and proper.
Bear is leather and lawless.
It will never work between them.
It’s a lie they almost believe…It is necessary to first read King and Tyrant to fully enjoy Lawless.

Review –

Lawless is raw, dark, and hot. When some books claim to have a “bad boy”, they are just wrong. TM Frazier shows you a legitimate bad guy. Bear is a criminal who has murdered several people, does drugs, and is generally everything that is really bad. He is not just a cocky bastard who hooks up with girls (he does that too) and claims to be a bad guy. So, anyone who claims a book has a “bad boy” needs to use the King/Bear test. If he is not as bad or worse as these guys, he is not a bad boy.

Now having said that, let me talk about the story in Lawless. First, you do have to read King and Tyrant first. Honestly, if you haven’t read those, stop reading this review and go read them. The plot picks up right from page one and it does NOT stop. I wasn’t sure I would really like Bear. I don’t know why, but I was hesitant to even start the book, especially  because of what the author did in Book One, King.

Once I did start reading, I fell in love with Thia. She is so well written!  She and Bear met when she was ten years old and one of his friends tried to rob the convenience  store she was minding. Bear gave her his skull ring and told her if she ever needed help to come look for him.  Well, she needs help in a BIG way and goes off

to the MC club to find him, only he isn’t there because he has left the Beach Bastards. His father and President of the club, Chop, beats her up and almost rapes her but Gus rescues her and takes her to King’s.I worried that this would end up being another story that just followed the same plot as King and Doe. Thankfully, I was wrong. While this is still about bad men and girls desperate for help, the plots are unique. You are left with a major cliffhanger so don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Five stars!!!!!!

And, Oh My God, that cover!!!!!!

Saxon was broken. Never feeling worthy, the last thing he ever wanted to do was taint the woman he loved. But it was easier to push and walk away than leave himself open for more heartache. However, when faced with the possibility of losing Nary to the monsters that invade her dreams, the time to run was over.

To save her means risking it all, but to continue living without his heart was no longer an option.

Review –

This book was recommended to me as being a dark and edgy MC themed romance so i HAD to give it a try.

Right away I knew this was not the usual MC story I was used to, because it takes place in Australia! I had no idea that there were MC club in Australia. On top of wrapping my head around that, there were the narrators-I was very disappointed. The female did okay but the male’s voice was too high-pitched that it made the biker’s dialogue almost comical. I was very distracted by the whole thing.

The story line was dark because there is sexual assault (sorry had to warn you), but it is not graphic or salacious at all. It will tug in heart strings. It was a great story for the characters of  Nary and Saxon..the only thing I would have liked to see was some counseling for Nary and Kelsey…you can’t go through something like that and not need some external support, but the story or Nary’s abduction, what she and Kelsey endured, the rescue, the retribution, the healing, and the resurrection was done very well by the writer.

I will not be reading other books in this series.

Satin and Pearls (The Virgin Diaries #1) by Lauren Landish

Book Description:

Published: August 19, 2018

Format: E-Book

From Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Lauren Landish comes The Virgin Diaries, a series of take-charge alpha heroes and the sassy, innocent women who bring them to their knees.

I have a confession to make. I hate my math professor, Connor Daniels.

From the moment he walked into class, he’s been a thorn in my side, nitpicking every little thing that I do. It burns me how he expects me to be just as perfect as he is. I get that professors are supposed to challenge their students, but he’s such a . . .

He’s a dick.

Cocky. Big-headed. Egotistical.

So why can’t I stop fantasizing about him? Standing up there in his tight jeans, his bulge practically flaunted in my face. I picture the victorious way he’d smirk as he bent me over his desk, flipping my skirt up and taking me. Like it was inevitable.

But here’s the thing . . .

I don’t want him to just take my body, or my virginity.

I want him to teach me everything.

Review –

I am  not a prude, but overall it just struck me as a book of sex scenes with some filler. The story line wasn’t anything new (teacher/student), just another taboo relationship with a predictable outcome. I was disappointed . I won’t be reading the rest of the series.

An emotional love story that follows the touch-and-go relationship of Hayden and Tenley; two young people who desperately want to love and be loved but are afraid to completely let go of their pasts.

When Tenley asks Hayden to put a beautifully elaborate tattoo across her back, the two form what they thought was an unshakeable bond. But when Tenley’s past shows up on her doorstep, will Hayden stand by her side…or run?

Review –

This is a love story between two very damaged souls, who become co-dependant on each other .

When Tenley asks tattoo artist Hayden to ink an intricate design on her back, he is immediately intrigued by her and senses that she is hiding something from him. Something dark and tragic. He feels this immediate chemistry and connection with her. He senses the suffering and loneliness that they both share.

With all his ink and piercings, Hayden represents everything that Tenley has longed for. A wildness and freedom that she has never dared to take. She sees him as an escape from the pain she is suffering, but the emotional connection they begin to have together is more than she expected. A bond that goes beyond the physical. Both are hiding secrets, Tenley lost nine people, including her parents and fiancée in a plane crash and she blames herself, Hayden, found his parents shot to death in their bedroom and he blames himself. He also has a past full of drugs and sexual exploits with multiple women.

Neither are willing to share their past with the other and this leads to misunderstandings and hurt feelings. When Trey, Tenley’s fiancée’s brother, comes to her about an estate situation she packs up and goes back to Minnesota to put things right. She leaves without explaining anything to Hayden. This is where Book One ends,

Listening to this story was like witnessing a train wreck. I knew that their relationship was doomed because of the lack of communication. They thought having extremely good sex, often, would be enough to secure them as a couple .,

I have already started Book Two, Inked Armor, and can’t wait to finish it.

Gentleman Nine by Penelope Ward

Book Description:

Published: February 19, 2018

Format: Audio/OverDrive

Growing up, the three of us were friends.
He was the nerd.
I was the playboy.
She was the beauty.

Deep down, I only ever wanted her. I kept it inside because Rory and I made a pact that our friend, Amber, was off-limits.

He lied.

I went off to college, and he got the girl.
Amber never knew how I felt.
They were together for years—before he broke her heart.

Through it all and across the miles, she and I casually stayed in touch.
When my job sent me to Boston for a three-month contract position, Amber let me stay in her spare room.

Still reeling from her breakup, she’d sworn off men.
One night, I opened her computer to find the shock of my life. She’d hesitantly contacted a male escort company. Afraid to date and get her heart-broken again, she was looking for sex with no strings.

Every emotion imaginable ran through me: protectiveness, jealousy—curiosity.
Amber had chosen Gentleman Number Nine and sent him a message.
She opened up to him, confessing, among other things, her physical attraction to her friend—me. But she considered me off-limits—and she thought I was a manwhore. (Ironic, considering the circumstances.)

Eventually, she set up a date to meet Gentleman Nine at a hotel.
When she showed up several nights later to meet him, she was stunned to see me standing there—with an offer I hoped she wouldn’t refuse.

Review –

Channing and Amber were drawn to each after Channing’s younger sister and Amber’s best friend passed away, and they shared a deep connection and steadfast friendship. They were attracted to each, but neither allowed themselves to admit their feelings. Amber ended up in a long-term relationship with Rory, of Channing’s good friends, reinforcing his feelings that any kind of romantic relationship with her is off limits.

When Gentleman Nine begins, Amber’s relationship has just ended, and she is devastated and heartbroken. Channing is in town for business and staying at her house, and they rekindle their friendship, but they can no longer ignore the chemistry that is sizzling between them. Oh, they try to pretend it’s not there. Amber even contacts an escort agency in order to release some of her sexual frustration with a no-strings affair, but Channing discovers her intentions and offers to fill the position.

They agree to no-romance, sex only, no commitments, with the intention to keep their hearts safe. Easier said than done, because they both discover that their physical connection deepens their emotional connection. They’re falling for each other hard when neither expected it.

Amber and Channing’s feelings slowly build, and the meticulous unfurling of their love story pulls the reader in and keeps them captivated and anxious for the HEA. There’s an unexpected twist that is common in the writings of Penelope Ward and it adds depth to the story. Gentleman Nine is an engaging, tender and steamy friends-to-lovers romance with memorable characters and a truly unique story.

Loved it!   Just added Channing Lord to my Book Boyfriend list.

Review –

WHAT A FUN BOOK!!

I listened to this sexy, light-hearted romance in one sitting and it kept me laughing, swooning, and chuckling the whole way through! The writing was witty and addictive, the characters were compelling and endearing, the romance was hot, and the whole book was a joy to read!

So the story starts when an unexpected – but memorably hot kiss – with a complete stranger at an overly stuffy engagement party led to the flu from hell, the worst audition of Ruby’s life, and thusly no way to pay her rent. At that point, with her options closing, she was sure things couldn’t possibly go more wrong…

But when a second encounter with said same sexy stranger led to a further unexpected offer to babysit his exotic pets (a ferret and a big furry tarantula) while he was away on business for five weeks, it took her life down a path she couldn’t have expected… including the undeniable sexual tension between her and the no-longer-stranger who, despite his flu-related transgressions, was quickly becoming her uncouth white knight. During his trip away they would Face Time every day or night and eat dinner/or whatever meal was appropriate and drink wine or whatever. Sexual innuendoes increased with every passing day.

Both Ruby and Bancroft came from wealthy families, but while she was trying to distance herself from that world and family by making her own way without their help or involvement, he was still involved in his family’s company after retiring(because of an injury-not because he wanted to)from a career of professional rugby. Usually someone within her family’s world wouldn’t appeal to her, but his down to earth attitude towards life drew her in. And the same could be said for how he saw her. She was a breath of fresh air in his life — unprimped, uninterested in money, and not out to impress anyone, all she cared about was standing on her own two feet. His whole life had been filled with women throwing themselves at him but despite his sports star status and being such an eligible bachelor, in his own words, he “didn’t leave a trail of fucked fans across the globe” so I really appreciated that he had every opportunity to be a manwhore, and yet he wasn’t.

Despite being oceans apart for the first part of the book, I was pleasantly surprised that Ruby and Bancroft still shared sizzling chemistry, which of course led to the next big question. What would happen when he got home? Would they take their flirtations to the next level? Or part ways for good? HA! This is a romance so of course they take things to the next level… OMG the hotness!!!!

Five stars.

If you’re a fan of romantic comedies,(as you know I usually am NOT) then this is definitely a book you’ll want to read or listen to. (The narrators are fantastic) It’s well written, fun, sexy, steamy hot and has a hero and heroine I couldn’t help but fall in love with.

Mercy by Debra Anastasia

Book Description:

Published: August 20, 2017

Format: Audio/Audible

He taught me to kill. Murder is in my blood now. It runs through my veins and though I hide the monster I see in the mirror with ink, it doesn’t keep him from coming out.

My street name is Mercy, but I never show any. Except for her. I watch Becca, though she doesn’t know. She saved me a long time ago; the day my father killed my mother. Her bravery turned her into a target.

My father holds a grudge and knife with the same proficiency, and Becca is the focus of his hatred. And I’m the only monster who can save her.

Review –

If you were to go off the synopsis, you’d be thinking this was a particularly sinister, dark read – for us, it wasn’t. Yes, there were dark elements, especially in the last 20% of the book, however the story was essentially one of never ending love, acceptance, destiny, redemption and courage; interspersed with guffaw type humour, loads of emotion and some really sweet romance, all delivered with this authors fabulous ability for gripping and entertaining storytelling.

Mercy is the story of Fenix Churchkey and Rebecca Dixie Stiles. Two children who had a very brief interaction, yet it’s one that would stay with them and have a particularly lasting effect on the young Fenix (Nix). Becca and Nix were a destiny, a love story in the making – written in the stars if you like.

Becca stood up to Nix’s brute of a father when they were kids and that made her a target. Flash ahead fifteen years later and Nix is watching out for (really, stalking) Becca to make sure she’s safe. He never lets her see him. Nix always made a pact to never let Becca see him, to always protect her, thinking up ingenious ways to be a part of her life, to watch over her without actually being a part of it. Well, that was all about to change when Nix, at the coercion of his best friend Animal, seizes an opportunity for Becca to get to know the man beneath the menacing appearance, to know the man inside

The author didn’t rush the romance between Nix and Becca, instead treating us to a slow build, allowing us to get to know the characters before the feverishness of their feelings took hold, summoning our emotions through Nix’s past and his healing process. I loved this man(whole body skeleton tattoo and all)! Nix begs the question, what is normal and he shows us how we need to dig beneath the surface to find the jewel. Their love story was intense, exhilarating, sweet, honest and beautiful, if not a little chaotic and crazy.

The secondary characters were fabulous – in particular the relationship between Nix and his best mate Animal. This huge big brute of a man who spoke so sweetly and sometimes had the hilarious demeanour of a little old lady won us over. Animal soon became a crucial part of the story and holy cow  I cannot wait for his story and to learn who his love interest is, though I have some idea!

There is finally a HEA, but I’m not telling anything else other than to say that Becca may have gotten a tattoo, too.(Hmmm, let me see, I wonder what she choose?)

Great read.
