Book Description:

Published: November 1, 2014

Motivated by the opportunity to obtain real justice, Tracy became a homicide detective with the Seattle PD and dedicated her life to tracking down killers.

When Sarah’s remains are finally discovered near their hometown in the northern Cascade mountains of Washington State, Tracy is determined to get the answers she’s been seeking. As she searches for the real killer, she unearths dark, long-kept secrets that will forever change her relationship to her past — and open the door to deadly danger.

Review –

Because of all the twists and turns in this book, I think I have whiplash!

If the main players in this story had just been honest –  there would have been NO story.

The daughter of a prominent man in a small community goes missing and presumed dead, although no body was found, and a convicted rapist who served his time and now back in town, is “framed” for the disappearance. All of those involved in the frame up take a vow of silence. The missing girl’s sister has never believed that the trail was all it could have been and when, after twenty years, her sister’s body is discovered, she vows to get the convicted man a new trial and have her sister’s case re-opened.Well, that opens a whole new can of worms and she finds out how dangerous it is to uncover some things.

I won’t give anything away, but you’ll be surprised who turns out to be the murderer.

Great read/listen.

Review –

If you are a fan of the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer this is a MUST READ because we learn very interesting information about all of the characters included in the books. Some of the information is prior to the books beginning and some just adds nuances we didn’t know.

A wonderful read or listen. I loved it.

And then he discovers there may be an even greater danger facing Private India. Hidden in the shadows is someone who could destroy the whole organisation – along with thousands of innocent Mumbai citizens…

Review –

This is the first book in the Private series by James Patterson and others that didn’t thrill me, although the storyline was action packed, fast paced  and interesting.

Maybe it was the locale or the narrator and  although I listened to it in its entirety  I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

Sometimes that happens but if it ever happens to you, don’t despair. Just pick up another book: audio, physical or digital and start reading or listening again. Remember that in every book lies an adventure!

Thrash (Bayonet Scars #2) by J.C. Emery

Book Description:

Published: January 9, 2014

Loneliness suffocates the heart. Acceptance breaks down walls.

As a Lost Girl to the Forsaken Motorcycle Club, Nicole Whelan knows how to party. She’s not cut-out for relationships and her life is way too complicated for anything more than casual encounters. But one night when she falls into Duke’s bed at the clubhouse, he sees something in her that he can’t let go of—no matter how many times she tries to run.

Having been left to raise her teenage brother, Jeremy, she’s already got her hands full and isn’t looking for anymore complications. But Duke’s just watched his best friend fall for the only girl he couldn’t have, and then almost lose her so shortly after, shaking him to his core. Faced with his own loneliness, he’s more determined than ever to break down Nic’s walls and show her that he can be good for her; but he’s got a bad track record and she’s got a bad temper. Changing his ways isn’t easy when he’s not sure what he’s even changing for.

The violence and turmoil are at an all-time high, and Forsaken is in a vulnerable place when a twist of fate breathes new life into the club. It’s a much-needed beacon of hope for the embattled biker family, even if everyone’s not exactly on board. With Duke and Nic’s relationship already on shaky ground, and something even more important at stake, the Forsaken Motorcycle Club will fight like hell to keep their family together and whole.

Love is never more precious than when it’s new.

Review –

Each one of the books in the Bayonet Scars series could be considered a stand alone but they also finish off the previous one, if that makes sense.

In Thrash Ryan and Alex from Ride  get their HEA but the book primarily deals with Nicole (Nic) and Duke.

Nic and Duke have a past together and he hurt her badly so that’s why she has kept her distance but now she can’t and she gives in to her need and desire for him.  Likewise, Duke knows he has hurt Nic and knows he probably will again but that doesn’t stop him from claiming her as his own, no matter the cost.

A great steamy read with sizzling sex scenes.

The Redbreast (Harry Hole #3) by Jo Nesbo

 Book Description:

Published: November 2, 2009

1944: Daniel, a soldier, legendary among the Norwegians fighting the advance of Bolshevism on the Russian front, is killed. Two years later, a wounded soldier wakes up in a Vienna hospital. He becomes involved with a young nurse, the consequences of which will ripple forward to the turn of the next century.

1999: Harry Hole, alone again after having caused an embarrassment in the line of duty, has been promoted to inspector and is lumbered with surveillance duties. He is assigned the task of monitoring neo-Nazi activities; fairly mundane until a report of a rare and unusual gun being fired sparks his interest. Ellen Gjelten, his partner, makes a startling discovery. Then a former soldier is found with his throat cut. In a quest that takes him to South Africa and Vienna, Harry finds himself perpetually one step behind the killer. He will be both winner and loser by the novel’s nail-biting conclusion.

The Redbreast won the Glass Key prize for the best Nordic crime novel when it was first published, and was subsequently voted Norway’s best crime novel. The Devil’s Star, Nesbø’s first novel featuring Harry Hole to be translated into English, marked Nesbø as a writer to watch in the ever more fashionable world of Nordic crime.

Review –

Another great book in the Norwegian character Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo. This is a very convoluted plot driven story and you have to be alert and keep up with the going back and forth in time situation and all the many characters involved in the story line. I have to hand it o  the author because there really was genius involved in the writing of this book.

Some of the highlights are:

Harry, through no merit of his own, is made an Inspector.

He first meets Rakel. (his main love interest in the series)

His partner, Ellen Gjelten, is brutally beaten to death with a baseball bat and the case goes unsolved. (the reader knows who did it, Sverre Olsen, but he was told to do it by a man called the Prince, who is in actuality Tom Waaler, a Senior Inspector on the police department.

I loved it!

The Crossing (Harry Bosch #23 and Mickey Haller #6)) by Michael Connelly

Book Description:

Published: November 13, 2015

Six months ago, Harry Bosch left the LAPD before they could fire him, and then hired maverick Defense Attorney Mickey Haller to sue the department for forcing him out. Although it wasn’t the way he wanted to go, Harry has to admit that being out of the game has its benefits. Until Mickey asks him to help on one of his cases, and suddenly Harry is back where he belongs, right in the centre of a particularly puzzling murder mystery. The difference is, this time Harry is working for the defense, aiming to prevent the accused, Leland Foster, from being convicted. And not only does the prosecution seem to have a cast-iron case, but having crossed over to ‘the dark side’ as his former colleagues would put it, Harry is in danger of betraying the very principles he’s lived by his whole career.

Review –

The character of Harry Bosch is one of my favorites, but Mickey Haller, not so much. I don’t know why but Mickey Haller gets on my nerves, but I think having Matthew McConaughey star as the Lincoln Lawyer might have something to do with it. I hate, with a passion, Michael McConaughey and now whenever I think of Mickey Haller I see Matthew’s face. (Not fair)

Anyway, I overlooked Mickey’s role in this book, the latest in the Harry Bosch Series, and concentrated on the crime solving bravado of Harry.

This is the first time Harry is no longer a member of the LAPD and he is helping Mickey, who is a defense attorney, with a case. Harry knows that by helping the side of the defense goes against all he has ever done and will put him in a bad light with a lot of people. But Harry being Harry does it anyway.

It’s a great story, as always, and Harry comes out on top.

I HIGHLY recommend this book and the entire series.

Cockroaches (Harry Hole #2) by Jo Nesbo

Book Description:

Published in Norwegian in 1998. Published in English: February 11, 2014

When the Norwegian ambassador to Thailand is found dead in a Bangkok brothel, Inspector Harry Hole is dispatched from Oslo to help hush up the case.

But once he arrives Harry discovers that this case is about much more than one random murder. There is something else, something more pervasive, scrabbling around behind the scenes. Or, put another way, for every cockroach you see in your hotel room, there are hundreds behind the walls. Surrounded by round-the-clock traffic noise, Harry wanders the streets of Bangkok lined with go-go bars, temples, opium dens, and tourist traps, trying to piece together the story of the ambassador’s death even though no one asked him to, and no one wants him to—not even Harry himself.

Review –

Harry has been traumatized by events of the previous book, The Bat, and finds the best way to cope is to stay drunk.  But his boss has other plans for Harry.

A Norwegian Ambassador has been killed in a brothel in Bangkok and Harry is sent to help solve it. He doesn’t want to go and the Bangkok police don’t want him.

Needless to say, it’s not a simple murder of a diplomatic figure. There are drug lords involved, along with gangsters and loan sharks.

Another great mystery in the Harry Hole Series.C758484C9C9106E2B09FB2547B1149C8

Five-star-feedback-on-oDesk

OMG!!!!!

I just finished listening to this book, which  is the first in a trilogy, and my hands are shaky and my breathing is ragged. I just have to sit here for a minute to collect myself….. Okay, that’s better.

Livy first sees M (Miller) when he comes into the coffee shop where she works and she can’t believe how breathtakingly beautiful he is. He’s dressed impeccably and she can tell he is a rich, polished  gentleman.

M is taken with Livy too and asks her for twenty-four hours alone with him so he can “worship her”. After awhile and thinking about the pros and cons, Livy gives in and says “Yes”.

Their arrangement does not go smoothly and there are serious arguments on both sides. There are jealousies and hurt feelings and there is gentle lovemaking and harsh rough f*cking.

Livy can’t stay away from M even though she knows it would be to her benefit and he is totally obsessed with her. Livy has a past that haunts her every day and only at the end does she find out that M has one just as bad, and it’s not his OCD.

This is a story that will grab you by the nape of the neck and not let go.

If you’re looking for a new erotic romance to read, I highly recommend One Night Promised.

Ride (Bayonet Scars #1) by J.C. Emery

Book Description:

Published: October 25, 2013

Death comes in Armani. Salvation comes in leather.

Principessa to the Mancuso crime family, Alexandra knows a thing or two about living outside the bounds of the law. Suffocated by the future her father has laid out for her, she makes a choice she can’t take back, changing the entire trajectory of her life.

Thrust into the dark and dangerous world of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club for her own protection, Alex finds herself faced with the last thing she needs right now: the man of her dreams. He’s sex in leather, the devil incarnate, and one hell of a kisser. But he’s also off-limits. Ryan Stone can be her friend, but he’s forbidden to be her lover.

Third-generation Forsaken, Ryan knows nothing other than life on two wheels, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He enjoys the many privileges that come with the patch, and the only laws he recognizes are the ones set-forth by his club. That is, until who he wants more than anything isn’t allowed on the back of his bike —or in his bed. Balancing his desire for her body, and need to keep her safe, Ryan tries to keep Alex at a distance. Finally having made a choice for herself, she’s done hearing the word “no” and will push boundaries even Ryan himself doesn’t dare cross.

Love is never more tempting than when it’s forbidden.

Review –

I’m a sucker for a good motorcycle club erotic romance so when this one was offered free I couldn’t resist!

This story is basically Motorcycle Club meets the  Mafia.  It’s dark and edgy and I totally loved it.

Alex is the mafia princess with a twin brother and she trusted the wrong person and ends up being rescued from the clutches of the Mafia boys that wants her dead. She is taken away by a motorcycle gang cross-country to California to be kept safe by them and her Aunt, who is the wife of the President of the club. In reality, the Aunt is really  her mother. (long story)

Ryan, the man she becomes attracted to could sometimes  be a decent guy or a real a**hole and since he was trying to get Alex to hate him he treated her horribly, physically and mentally, and needed an a** kicking.

Their relationship finally becomes as important to Ryan as it is to Alex and  when Alex’s father sends henchman to California to kill her and those who stole her away, Ryan finally acts like a man and helps his club brothers take care of business.

The story ends with a lot left to the imagination but I’m sure it will be covered in the second book in the series, Thrash. Although it also is a standalone book about another couple, I’m fairly certain it will tie up the ends from the first book..

I loved the book because for an erotic romance it had it all. Sex, dirty talk, more sex, romance and of course handsome sexy guys on motorcycles.

Review –

This subject of this book is primarily Jack Morgan. Someone is framing him for the murder of his ex-girlfriend and he doesn’t know why or who but he has a pretty good idea, his twin brother Tommy.

As usual, the story is a combination of multiple stories going on at the same time and all being solved by Private, a private investigating firm that can get away with things others can’t.

It fast paced, action-packed but sometimes frustrating.  All in all, a great read or listen.
