Finders Keepers (Bill Hodges Trilogy #2) by Stephen King

Book Description:

Published: June 2, 2015

A masterful, intensely suspenseful novel about a reader whose obsession with a reclusive writer goes far too far—a book about the power of storytelling, starring the same trio of unlikely and winning heroes King introduced in Mr. Mercedes

“Wake up, genius.” So begins King’s instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn’t published a book for decades. Morris Bellamy is livid, not just because Rothstein has stopped providing books, but because the nonconformist Jimmy Gold has sold out for a career in advertising. Morris kills Rothstein and empties his safe of cash, yes, but the real treasure is a trove of notebooks containing at least one more Gold novel.

Morris hides the money and the notebooks, and then he is locked away for another crime. Decades later, a boy named Pete Saubers finds the treasure, and now it is Pete and his family that Bill Hodges, Holly Gibney, and Jerome Robinson must rescue from the ever-more deranged and vengeful Morris when he’s released from prison after thirty-five years.

Not since Misery has King played with the notion of a reader whose obsession with a writer gets dangerous. Finders Keepers is spectacular, heart-pounding suspense, but it is also King writing about how literature shapes a life—for good, for bad, forever.

Review –

Five Stars *****

OMG!  I loved this book.

In this book, the second in the Bill Hodges Trilogy, we learn more about the people affected by the crazy man driving a Mercedes into a line of people waiting for a job fair to begin and the effect it had on others.

Tom Saubers can’t walk, is in pain, and out of work, so when his son,Pete finds the stolen money and notebooks, taken  from writer, John Rothstein, thirty-five years earlier by Morris Bellamy (who also killed Rothstein), he does the only thing he can-send the money anonymously to his parents to help out with the day-to-day living situation 0f the family and he keeps and reads the notebooks. In these notebooks are two more Jimmy Gold novels yet to be published and since Pete is a fan of Rothstein, he knows how valuable the notebooks are.

I won’t give anything away to say that Morris Bellamy is finally paroled from prison and by circumstance finds out that Pete has what he covets and blackmails him. Because Pete’s younger sister is worried about him, Bill Hodges, two other crime solvers, who helped solve the Mr. Mercedes crime, become involved and help Pete out of a very bad situation.

You will have to read the book yourself to find out what happens to everyone and the notebooks.

I know I always say that Mr. King has done it again, but it’s true.  I can not wait for the end of the trilogy which will probably be released some times next year.
