Emily

I had no idea the wickedness that lay beneath his angelic features and pleasurable touch.

I wanted one night out to be wild and crazy; to be like all the other young women my age. I’d been living such a sheltered life that when a new group of friends took me to a nightclub for some drinks and dancing – nothing overly rebellious, considering – I jumped at the chance.

And you can imagine my surprise when the sexiest man at the club, heck, the sexiest man I’d ever set eyes upon wanted to spend some alone time getting to know the plain Jane daughter of a pastor! I jumped at the chance. Most of the other young women regularly left with men they’d just met and nothing bad ever happened, so what were the chances it would turn out badly for me?

I had no idea…

Tanner

I had no idea she’d challenge everything I believed about myself and make me feel.

My job is simple – train them and break their spirits without shattering their minds, which isn’t the easiest task, I assure you. But I’m the best at what I do.

But now The Organization I previously worked for is gone and I’m a freelancer – of sorts. And I couldn’t be happier. I used to have to abide by their rules, follow their protocol, but not anymore. The lives and minds of the women are mine to do with as I please.

Unfortunately for Emily Fennel, the daughter of a small-town pastor, she’d caught my attention. She was so pure and virtuous, she’s the light in contrast to my darkness and she’s going to be my greatest accomplishment.

People thought I was a monster before…

From the Author

Please Note: This is a dark romance novel, it contains themes of violence and mature situations that may upset some readers. While some people may feel it was over the top, please understand that in order to really appreciate the mental/emotional journey Tanner and Emily take I felt the book needed to start at its darkest point.
Review –
Though this may be a dark romance novel I found the ending to be too unbelievable.  I won’t say what the ending was but for all that went on in the story it’s just not plausible, at least, to me.
I also found it to be very predictable. Preacher’s daughter kidnapped and held hostage by a sex crazed dominant  who uses her and abuses her only to have her fall in love with him.  It seems like I’ve read this somewhere before.
I enjoy reading but sometime it’s like WHY AM I DOING THIS?

Plain Jane: Brunettes Beware (Harbinger Mystery #1) by Cristyn West

Book Description:

Published: June 1, 2010

A Patterson-style thriller with a dash of Hannibal…A city paralyzed by a serial killer stalking the night, taking a most gruesome trophy.
The only standing in the murderer’s way is an FBI profiler…recently released from a mental institution.Plain Jane combines the swift action of Patterson with the macabre of Harris.

Just remember to keep the lights on when reading this one!

Review –
This was my first reading of anything by Cristyn West and it was very fantastic.  I rated it five stars *****.
A serial killer is murdering young women with brunette hair and after either shooting or strangling them, he cuts them open and steals their uterus. Yes, I said uterus!  I’ve never seen that in a crime fiction book before. A young police detective is paired with an eccentric FBI profiler, who gets into more trouble both on and off the job.  They also have a history and that does get into the way sometimes.
It’s a great murder mystery with plenty of action and twists to keep you interested, so if you like this genre add this one to you “to be read” list.

Cameron’s Contract (Enthrall Novella #2) by Vanessa Fewings

Book Description:

Published: June 21, 2015

Enemies swirl. Boundaries break. Love shatters.

The master is being challenged like never before, but those who claw for his possessions will feel his wrath. Billionaire Cameron Cole is a man without equal. For his true wealth is his intellect.

Words bind, and once ink soaks paper, lives change.

With Cameron’s Contract, the second novella in the bestselling Enthrall Sessions, author Vanessa Fewings raises the stakes and deepens the passion for a world-renowned psychiatrist and his beloved submissive.

Review –

I was very disappointed with this installment in the Enthrall Series because it dealt mostly with the business side of Cameron’s life and not the BDSM club life but his father’s Coffee and Tea business life. Mia, of course, played a strong part and I enjoyed the ending but even so I was left wanting. Hoping for better in the next one.

Book Description:

Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she’ll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

Review –

I rated this book 5 stars *****

I love the description of “bad boy” Noah Hutchins  – “pot smoking,girl-using loner in a black leather jacket”.  Is it just me or or does that just melt your insides?

Noah has lost his parents in a horrible house fire over two years ago and he and his two brothers were put into foster care but not together. Ever since punching out his  first foster-father(no matter how justified) he’s been labeled as a threat  and a hot head and hasn’t had much visitation with his younger brothers. They are in a good home, go to good schools and have everything they could want or need plus the foster parents want to adopt them. Noah wants to apply for custody after graduating from high school but realizes it will ne an up hill battle  because he can’t care for them like the foster parents can.

Echo doesn’t remember what happened two years ago but she woke up in the hospital almost dead and covered in deep red bloody cuts. These cuts left horrible scars, which she covers with long sleeves and gloves at all times. She is seeing the school clinical psychologist to try to remember and cope with the memories of that night. She needs a job to fix up her dead brothers car so Mrs. Collins suggested tutoring a fellow student.  Little did she know that it would be Noah, usually made fun of her like everyone else in school.

It takes time but Noah and Echo develop a friendship and much later a relationship and the road to either is not smooth.

The last fourth of the book was very emotional  and I cried like a baby and had to put down the book and go get some Kleenex. (I really love books that make me cry) I won’t say how it ends but I was hoping for a better outcome but I had to remember they were just 18 and out of high school.

There is a book that follows their journey and I plan to find it, hopefully for free, as soon as I can.

I’ve added Noah Hutchins to My Fictional Boyfriend List.

But more depends on it than they know. Can they find the answers they need before the fragile remains of humanity vanish for good?

Review –

This is zombie fiction at it’s best!

The plot is captivating and it’s scary to think that there are people out in our world TODAY crazy enough to pull off something like this. It also shows the lengths the human spirit will go to survive.  The characters are well-defined and Frank and Nella have such  good chemistry that you can’t help but route for them. Though this book is a good “stand  alone” it is the first of three in a series and I will definitely be reading those in the future.

If you like post-apocalyptic stories or the zombie genre, this book is for you!

This fifth installment of the David Wolf series is chock-full of suspense, mystery, and action that will keep you glued to the pages through the final sentence.

Review –

This is the first book that I have read in the David Wolfe Series  because it was offered as a free digital book and I must say that I will definitely be reading more.  The plot of this book involves a cold case of several disappearances and it connects to the seven severed heads and one full body that has recently been  found in Cold Lake.  It is full of  suspense and heart stopping action.  I really did enjoy it, so if you like murder mysteries you might give this one a try.

He’s a hands-on bodyguard—and a one-woman man.
There is nothing Connor Malone wants to do less than babysit the celebratty songstress while she’s on vacation. But part of him relishes taming Lyric and showing her what it’s like to be possessed—body and soul—by one man. And though Lyric’s crazy antics nearly drive Connor to the edge, his quiet intensity penetrates her defenses, leaving them both vulnerable to the secrets that could topple Lyric from the stage.

Review –

All of the other books in the Sweet Series by Maya Banks are very very kinky and full of explicit sex, but while this one has some explicit sex it is all on the “vanilla” side because that’s just the way the character of Connor rolls.

Connor is in charge of the safety and security for rock star, Lyric Jones (not her real name) and she is doing everything to make his job a living hell. She is contrary, hard headed, stubborn, and everything a typical rock star is know for being.  But, she has a dark secret, and with Connor’s help she confides in him and that changes everything.  There is a stalker theme in the story but it’s weak.

I enjoyed the audio version and the narrator did a fantastic job. The Sweet Series  gets an A+

…I just pray to God this beast bites.

Anti-social behaviour is down, employment is on the rise, and she’s even been shortlisted for estate manager of the year.
It’s looking good. Really good. Until Callum Jackson completes his jail time and lands right back on her doorstep.
She could do without a guy like him on her books: a failure of the system and a pain in the fucking ass.
She should tick the boxes, do her job and keep her distance – that’s what the handbook says. The handbook says no one-on-one contact, no at-risk situations, no direct confrontation of any kind.
But the handbook doesn’t know of her craving for hardcore submission.
The handbook has no fucking idea how she yearns to unleash Jackson at club Explicit, where his savage can really run wild.
The handbook doesn’t know shit…

Review –

While Dirty Bad Wrong was really really hot, Dirty Bad Savage is really really dirty.

Neither book is for the shy or weak hearted, they are dark and gritty and make you say “Whoa, what just happened?”

This story has more emotional depth to it. Callum and Sophia  each come with their own baggage. Callum is rough and dirty and has had a very hard life from the beginning. He will survive not matter what he has to do.  Sophia, on the other hand, is from a wealthy family and has a stable job but behind the facade hides a very different girl with needs that are questionably, even to Callum, at first.

They finally find in each other what they need but the journey is very dark, dirty and shocking.

The sex scenes are very hot and very dirty.

If you enjoyed Jade West’s first book you will enjoy this one.

Review –

I rated this book 5 stars *****

I’m not very familiar with the Erotica genre but I think it was unusual for the author to admit to being a real life submissive. Maybe she did so to let the readers know that she had first hand knowledge of the details she used in the book.

Parts of James and Lydia’s story are very hard to read. Some passages I had to read twice, maybe more, because the subject matter was disturbing and shocking. That being said, their relationship worked for them and I was sorry to see the end come.

I don’t know if the author has any plans to write another book with James and Lydia, but it would be fun to see how their committment to one another is working out.

**Warning – this novel contains graphic sex, and hardcore elements of BDSM. There are scenes of violence (consensual) as well as sexual practices some readers may find offensive.

If you aren’t turned on by dirty bad wrong sex then please walk on by.***

Embryo by J.A. Schneider

Book Description:

Published: May 18, 2012

“Maria Moran’s first inkling of trouble was the coppery taste in her mouth. It came suddenly, a rushing whoosh of something that made her gag, and when she reached to wipe her mouth, her hand came away smeared with blood.”

So begins this thriller about a young intern, Jill Raney, determined to investigate tragedies and terror at a famous fertility and genetic engineering hospital. When two pregnant women die and a fetus is delivered with severe chromosomal abnormalities, Jill’s superiors – including handsome, smitten-with-her resident David Levine – insist there’s no common link.

But her suspicions deepen with the grotesque murder near the hospital of another pregnant woman – her belly drained of amniotic fluid. And when a woman miscarries in the hospital and then disappears, Jill frantically searches for her – following a terrifying path that seems to link all the victims: Is someone playing with life…and the structures of human life itself?

An unforgettable tale of suspense with a shocking denouement, Embryo.

Review –

This is a very well done medical suspense thriller. There are murders, hidden agendas, secret investigations, DNA manipulations and a hint of a new race of Super Humans.  It held my interest all the way through and I recommend it as a Summer Read.
