Swim by Jennifer Weiner

Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The short story that inspired Jennifer Weiner’s forthcoming novel The Next Best Thing.Ruth has left her job writing for a hit television show for reasons she’d rather not discuss and is supplementing her increasingly dwindling savings with freelance writing projects—namely, helping anxious high school students craft a perfect college essay and lonely souls craft captivating online dating profiles. When she’s not working, she’s swimming—lap after lap at the local indoor pool, in a desperate attempt to wash away the sting of professional failure and heartbreak that she can’t seem to shake. It takes an unexpected client to show her that appearances can be deceiving, and that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is simply dive back in.

Review-

Even though this was a short e-story and free I didn’t care for it.  It just wasn’t my cup of tea.

I had looked forward to the release of this book but I was really disappointed.  To me it was boring and I only finished it because I had started it.

Review –
It’s not your typical Zombie book but if you are a fan of Zombies you really need to read it.  I was hooked from the first few pages and it still had me at the end and Zombies are not my number one favorite, maybe number four or five but it was a fast read  and it was a free download.  If you  run across it-give it a try.

Grave Secrets by Kathy Reichs

Book Description

Publication Date: July 1, 2003 | Series: Temperance Brennan Novels

From Publishers Weekly

Fans of the Temperance Brennan series will be pleased by forensic anthropologist Reichs’s latest installment (after Fatal Voyage; Deadly Decisions; etc.). Grave Secrets finds Tempe plying her pathology trade in Guatemala, investigating a massacre site as a favor to a Guatemalan anthropology association. However, when her team is ambushed by gunmen, Tempe finds herself ensnared in a mesh of corruption and murder stretching from Guatemala City to Montreal, involving DAs, military thugs and kinky diplomats. Tempe finds herself drawn and trapped between the two cops investigating: her longtime Canadian suitor, Lt. Andrew Ryan, and her would-be Latin lover, agente Bartolom‚ Galiano. That the two men know each other and are friends doesn’t help the situation. When a nosy reporter looking into the massacre is gunned down before Tempe’s eyes, she realizes she herself is the next likely target. As has been said before, Reichs has much in common with Patricia Cornwell, though her language is more stripped down and there is less melodrama between autopsies. Devotees of medical procedurals will appreciate the detailed descriptions of bone formation and the mechanics of bodily decomposition within a septic tank; others may not. But the author keeps the twists coming, and by the novel’s climax, she has skillfully interwoven her many subplots and red herrings into a satisfying puddle of sex, sleaze, greed and gore. This turned out to be my favorite so far of all the Kathy Reich books I have read or listened to.
So many things go on all at the same time but the author keeps you grounded so you don’t get confused.
I highly recommend it.

Review  –
The Rose Gardner Mystery Series has become one of my new favorites because  the main character, Rose, is wacky, quirky, sweet, and priceless and that makes all the other characters in the book come to life.  Rose gets into such mischief, not that she really means to (okay, sometimes she does mean to) and her actions always  have repercussions, sometimes good and sometimes bad.  I can’t wait to see what will happen in the next installment.
