The unflappable Stone Barrington comes face to face with two men whose lives are wrapped in shadows and lies—and who both still feel the sting of betrayal they can never forget.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Hired by an odd client previously unknown to him, Stone arrives in London, on a mission he thinks he understands, but doesn’t. Soon he finds himself not only out of his territory, but out of his depth as well. Baffled as he is by the behavior of both his quarry and his client, Stone’s life is further complicated by two, possibly three, murders and the affectionate attentions of two former lovers. When the intelligence services of three countries become involved, he can only hang on for a wild ride and hope for a not-too-bumpy landing.

Review –

Although I haven’t read very many Stone Barrington books, I think this will rank as one of my favorites.  It has everything,  Mystery, international travel, old romances popping up, shady spies, kidnapping, murder or accidental death, loss of wealth and a surprise ending.  Loved it.  Try it- you will too.

Dirt (Stone Barrington Series #2) by Stuart Woods

Book Description

 Series: Stone Barrington Novels

Feared and loathed for her poison pen and ice queen persona, Amanda Dart has made her share of enemies. Then the tables are turned. An anonymous gossip monger is faxing Amanda’s personal and private peccadilloes to anyone who can read. Desperate to save her reputation, she enlists the help of New York lawyer and private investigator Stone Barrington to learn the identity of the faxer. And everyone in the world of tabloid journalism becomes a suspect.

But the faxes don’t stop. In fact, they get worse. And Stone winds up with more leads than one man can handle, until Amanda takes matters dangerously into her own hands and turns the world of gossip on its head. As the circle of suspects shrinks, Stone discovers that even the most respected members of the social scene will stop at nothing—even homicide—to clear their sullied names.

Review –

I’ve read other books in this series but  have missed a few and this is the first step to change that.  It was a pleasant read and even though parts were a bit unbelievable, the character of Stone Barrington,(isn’t that a great name) an ex-cop turned lawyer and a “special” one at that, captivates the reader with clever antics, romantic escapades and the spirit of a knight in shining armour.  Now how can that be a bad thing?

Santa Fe Edge by Stuart Woods

From Booklist

Woods’ fourth Ed Eagle adventure, following Santa Fe Dead (2008), is less about superstar lawyer Ed than it is about his nefarious ex-wife, Barbara, who manages to escape from a Mexican prison and head back to the States with murder on her mind. Her targets are Ed and his new wife, Susannah, a beautiful actress. Barbara isn’t the only fugitive on the lam. Teddy Fay, the notorious ex-CIA operative last seen in Hothouse Orchid (2009), has arrived in Santa Fe, hoping to start a new life with his girlfriend, Lauren. But eager young CIA recruit Todd Bacon is hot on his trail. New to the mix is Ed’s latest client, golf pro Tip Hanks, who is under suspicion for the murder of his wife. Readers familiar with Woods’ multiple long-running series (including the Stone Barrington and Holly Barker books) will find themselves at home amid frequent murders and sexual escapades. And while some plotlines are a bit repetitive, particularly regarding Teddy, who has been on the run for many novels, and Barbara, who is also always one step ahead of her pursuers, there’s plenty of fun here for those who enjoy losing themselves in Woods’ entertaining escapist fare. –Kristine Huntley –This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Review –
I’m a big fan of Stuart Woods and loved this book.   There are a lot of characters introduced and you almost need a paper and pencil to keep track of who is who.  If you have never any his books prior to this one, you will probably be lost because these characters all have a past with one another.

If you haven’t read Stuart Woods be sure to pick up one of his earlier works and fill in the blanks until you get to this one-you won’t be disappointed.
