There is NOTHING boring about being a kid, but one little girl is going to have to prove it in this anything-but-boring picture book from comedian Michael Ian Black.Just when a little girl thinks she couldn’t possibly be more bored, she stumbles upon a potato who turns the tables on her by declaring that children are boring. But this girl isn’t going to let a vegetable tell her what’s what, so she sets out to show the unimpressed potato all the amazing things kids can do. Too bad the potato is anything but interested….

This tongue-in-cheek twist on a familiar topic is sure to entertain anyone who’s ever been bored—or had to hear about someone else being bored—and is filled with comedian Michael Ian Black’s trademark dry wit, accompanied by charismatic illustrations from newcomer Debbie Ridpath Ohi.

Review -

I choose this book because the author was new to me and the storyline fit into
the line of books I like such as, cozy mysteries, humorous crime fiction and fast
reads.
The storyline held my interest and was hard to put down.

The book was full of humor but not overdone and Carrie is kind of like the Lucille Ball character in I Love Lucy, always sticking her nose in places it doesn’t belong and then getting in dangerous trouble.

A very pleasant read and I love the cover.

I’m looking
forward to reading more of this series.

Five miles from the new age Mt. Shasta City, the sleepy Northern California town of Dunsmuir plays host to a nightmarish house – the Old Mortuary – where the mortician’s wife spent four decades alone, and some say insane, sleeping in an alcove off one bedroom where she believed the evil spirits of the house could not get to her, harboring terrible secrets. With the steady flow of dead bodies through the basement and the murderous events upstairs, this is the story of how the Old Mortuary of Dunsmuir became one of the most haunted houses in America as a result of the personality and misdeeds of one man, Horace Carpenter, whose eternal soul most certainly does not rest in peace, as many will attest, and probably never will. The sequel, ‘The Mortician Returns’, will be released in 2013. “I have spent the night in supposedly some of the most haunted buildings in America. I have met people who could fairly be described as evil incarnate. I have been to the Old Mortuary in Dunsmuir. It is gorgeous but I wouldn’t spend a single night there.” Kathleen McKenna, author of horror novels ‘The Wedding Gift’ and ‘Family Matters’

Review -

This is one creepy book and I love creepy. I read it in one sitting and wanted more, but the sequel has not been released yet.

The character for whom the book is named spends over 50 years by herself in an old mortuary to guard against the spirit of her dead husband ever leaving. Her problem is that she will not live forever and has to find someone to take her place. Now you see where I’m going, right? Yes, creep city.

I loved it and will patiently wait, but not for 50 years, for the sequel.

Witch-turned-daywalking-demon Rachel Morgan needs to save the demonic realm of the Ever After in the eleventh entry in the New York Times bestselling Hollows series from supernatural adventure master Kim Harrison.

Forced by circumstance, Rachel teams up with elven tycoon Trent Kalamack—a partnership fraught with dangers of the heart as well as betrayal of the soul—to return to the ever-after and rescue those she loves. One world teeters on the brink of interspecies war, the other on the brink of its very demise—and it’s up to Rachel to keep them both from being destroyed.

When Rachel sets off a chain of events that could lead to the end of the world—demonic and human—she must use her gifts to save those closest to her while preventing an apocalypse.

Satisfying and sexy, a visit to the Hollows will take readers on a wild journey that will capture their imagination. Fans of Charlaine Harris and Stephenie Meyer won’t be able to resist Kim Harrison’s alternative universe—urban fantasy Cincinnati complete with vampires, witches, and other enchanting creatures—where spine-tingling adventures and fast-paced action are the norm.

Review -

I have read all of the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris but I had no idea that she had written another series, so when I heard of the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries I had to give them a try.

Real Murders is the first book in the series and I can tell that I will be reading the others in order very soon. It’s the kind of cozy mystery that you can read anytime and not have your brain hurt from trying to keep all the characters or events in order. It’s a simple pleasant read and I recommend this series if you want to spend a few hours relaxing with your feet up.

Review -

This is only the second book I have read or listened to by Robert Crais, the first being Taken, which is number 14 in the series and I enjoyed it much better simply because of the narrator. It was read by Luke Daniels and The Monkey’s Raincoat, the first in the ELVIS COLE SERIES, was read by Patrick Lawlor and he couldn’t hold a candle to Mr. Daniels.

The plot was good and the characters, their development and interaction was good but the reader was flat. I will mostly likely purchase more of this series but I’m hoping Mr. Lawlor will improve with time. We’ll see.

IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RELAXING… Police Officer Jack Wardsley’s life ended the moment his partner died, stabbed to death by a deranged druggie. Now, years later, Jack is a changed man, with a head full of secrets driving him insane. His recent record of police brutality and a reputation for not following the rules has prompted his seniors to give him an ultimatum: take a few weeks off, relax, and find some way to let go of all the anger – or else find another job. That’s why Jack is about to board The Spirit of Kirkpatrick, a cruise liner built for relaxation and fun. Pretty soon, however, Jack realises that a little R&R is the last thing he’s ever going to get aboard the cursed ship. There’s a virus onboard, making people insane and bleeding from the eyes. The whole ship is overrun with blood and death, and there is nowhere to escape. But, just when Jack thinks his number is up and that his life is over, he wakes up. The day is exactly the same. In fact everything is the same. Jack is forced to witness the viral outbreak again and again as it ravages the ship and its passengers over and over, day after day. Jack quickly finds himself trapped in a repeating hell. It isn’t be long before Jack realises that there are others onboard just like him – and some of them know more about the situation then they’re letting on.

Review -

This is a fantastic HORROR story and the character development was great and the twists and turns were good BUT for me the ending as flat. I was like, “oh no, really!”. I do not regret reading it because it was spooky, creepy, bloody and reminded me of 28 Days Later, so it was a pleasant way to spend an evening if you like that sort of thing and I do.
